I loved last year's episode too, kerstina - you're not the only one! We've had camping holidays it reminded me of!

BibiBlocksberg · 26/12/2010 12:26

Oh yes, the poem, i surprised myself with how much I laughed at that.

It only just occured to me that Barbara and Denise don't smoke at all anymore - watching those two chuff like chimneys helped to put me off cigarettes for good :)

Loved it. George's devotion to dead Mary was so touching.

zookeeper · 26/12/2010 12:44

the irish lullaby was just lovely - the highlight of my day...fantastic...

stillbobbysgirl · 26/12/2010 13:43

i cried when he sang the irish song!

i loved last nights episode, but its not been the same without nana ... queen of sheba was the best writing/acting ever

Curiousmama · 26/12/2010 13:52

Yes it was fab Xmas Grin Dp was so surprised how well he sang (forgotten his name?)

Lmao when Denise was thinking of giving Cheryl the dcs Xmas Grin and mum said 'no'.

MummieHunnie · 26/12/2010 14:34

Joe, not George lol

Baby David was born xmas 1999! Craig's real son played him in a previous episdoe (queen of Sheba) it was there a reference to Anthony breaking up with Emma was made.

MummieHunnie · 26/12/2010 14:35

Curious, that bit was so subtle from Barbra, Denise would have gone for it lol x

jugglingjo · 26/12/2010 14:45

Very good.

Thank heavens there was something on worth watching !

That and the Shrek Christmas thing Xmas Smile

Surpassed the other Royle family this year I thought.

Queenie was a bit confused I felt, going from King James bible to Commonwealth games, a bit awkwardly.

And no mention of Will and Kate ?!

It got more mention on this Royle family !

Curiousmama · 26/12/2010 16:18

Didn't watch Queen's speech am amazed she didn't mention nuptials though?

BibiBlocksberg · 26/12/2010 16:22

Two Royle/Royal weddings in one year, nearly forgot about that :)

Just watched it, and was crying with laughter at the photos with the urns!

They remind me SO much of my pil's. Thats what their house was like when i got together with dh! Honestly was!!!!

Would NEVER tell them that though hehehehehe Grin

pippop1 · 26/12/2010 17:33

I liked the way that having Saskia around as normal person enabled you to see how very strange the Royale family actually are. We saw them through her eyes.

brokeoven · 26/12/2010 17:35

Joe called her swastica LMFAO!!!!!

MrsPennyLane · 26/12/2010 17:42

It was fantastic, I nearly wet myself laughing several times. Joe was sooo funny, a real classic

Mum2Luke · 26/12/2010 17:45

'Don't tell anyone but I'm planning to marry Saskia in the New Year' that has got to be one of the funniest bits and Mary in the Dyson hahaha. When Jim had to be carried upstairs to the kazi haha

Its Joe isn't it, not George, I agree Antony's acting is bit crap. That bit with Cheryl drinking a pint of Baileys and earlier stuffing crisps down her Xmas Grin

I loved Nana when she was in it.

Strawbezza · 26/12/2010 17:47

Fantastic programme. Wish I'd taped it, will be watching it again on iplayer.

Saskia was a housemaid in Downton Abbey too.

Loved the story of Mary winning the fancy dress competition as Archbishop Desmond Tutu, when she'd actually dressed up as Shaun Wright-Phillips.

HormonesHollyandIvy · 26/12/2010 18:23

Funnylittlefrog, I wondered about the golden wedding anniversary too. Golden is 50 years. How could they be old enough?

Agree last night's episode was very funny & 'Joe' has a beautiful voice.

jonicomelately · 26/12/2010 18:37

I missed some of it Sad but the bits I did see were brilliant, especially Cheryl and her homeless BF, the Baileys and Mary dressed as Shaun Wright-Phillips winning the fancy dress competition as Desmond Tutu Grin

PhishFoodAddiction · 26/12/2010 19:00

I thought it was really good this year, so glad I decided to watch it (was most disappointed with the caravan one).

The photos with the urns were so funny, and Jim saying it's a shame he didn't have his mum's ashes too as the urns could have had their own table. Grin

Does anyone else imagine Ricky Tomlinson is very much like Jim Royle in real life?! He always seems so grubby.

I was really disappointed with come fly with me it just wasn't very funny. Apart from the bit where he stood outdie the plane with a sign saying 'the dog is dead' I did chuckle at that. Aren't they a few years too late doing this? Would have been funnier when those airport programmes were on.

Ormirian · 26/12/2010 19:04

I can't bear it. I know it's funny and brilliantly written and well-acted etc etc but I want to stab Jim with a carving knife so badly it hurts. Vile, foul, selfish get! My sense of humour fails when faced with him I'm afraid.

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 26/12/2010 19:08

We all watched it - DH and the DCs and were all ROFL at it - it was great! Yes, Phishfood, I always imagine Ricky T is like Jim Royal and might be playing himself....

goalattack · 26/12/2010 19:14
Shock

It was awful. As bad as last year's episode. And I say this as someone who once loved it and can still cry at the episode Denise has her baby.

Was I watching an alternative version?!
