BibiBlocksberg · 26/12/2010 00:32

"funniest one yet, my arse!"

:) - reminds me of an older episode where Anthony's first girlfriends parents, Roger and Valerie come to visit.

Jim going 'Roger, my arse' Xmas Grin

I liked the bit about over Cheryl's over active thyroid and the biscuit tin Grin

MrsFruitcake · 26/12/2010 05:35

My DD said 'That's not Saskia, it's Sam Tyler's Mam'!

MrsFruitcake · 26/12/2010 05:35

DH rather, DD too young!

WestleyAndButtockUp · 26/12/2010 07:24

That Christmas episode where Denise is going into labour regularly appears in those "Greatest Christmas TV moments" programmes.

But all that stuff about how she's worried she won't be a good mum, and Jim comforts her that she will be;

well, it all rings a bit hollow now, doesn't it? She was right and he was wrong. So that scene's emotional impact is zero, now.

itsonlyblardychristmasday · 26/12/2010 08:11

it was saski looking at the pics of mary in blackpool

never seen that coming....

"have you no pics of mary before she died!"

very very good :)

Pancakeflipper · 26/12/2010 08:17

Loved it. I think that's going to be my fav funny TV this Christmas. I lost my sense of humour though by the time Matt and David were doing their Airport stuff. I found it stereotyping and unfunny. I think I was out of giggles by then - all gone on dead Mary.

nymphadora · 26/12/2010 08:32

I loved it too.
Spent ages tying to work out where I knew 'Saskia' from. She used to be in Coro & then remembered Life on Mars

Pantofino · 26/12/2010 08:44

I was crying with laughter - the funniest thing I have seen in ages! Especially the baileys Xmas Grin

ProfYaffle · 26/12/2010 08:48

We loved it, I was crying laughing. Thought it was great but very different to how it used to be. The characters weren't aware they were funny in the old days, much more self aware in last night's. It made me wonder why it's so patchy though, remember the holiday in a caravan episode? It was dire.

Can anyone remind me what happened with Anthony's last girlfriend? He mentioned a son?

Jacaqueen · 26/12/2010 08:50

I was so looking forward to this and I am glad to say that I was not dissapointed. Pure comedy gold.

Mary has never had such a big part.

I loved the episode a few years back when they went over to Dave and Denise's house with Dave's mum and dad and played with the reclining sofa.

Only thing missing was any reference to Twiggy.

I agree with Westley, the wilful neglect of the two children is wearing a bit thin now. Dave was besotted with Baby David in the earlier episodes. I can understand why they wouldn't want the children to appear when they were younger but Baby David must be a teenager by now.

I also watched the Gavin and Stacey special from a few years back which I love.

Furball · 26/12/2010 08:52

They seem to have forgotten it is also baby davids birthday on Christmas day

Jacaqueen · 26/12/2010 08:58

Exactly Furball.

Anthony's girlfriend was Emma, played by Sheridan(sp) Smith. She got pregnant when they were teenagers and had a son Lewis. He is a few tears younger than Baby David. Last night Jim state that Anthony was 30, so Lewis must be 12 or so.

Jacaqueen · 26/12/2010 08:58

Jim stated not state

ProfYaffle · 26/12/2010 09:01

Ah thank you. I remember Sheridan Smith in it. I think I've missed an episode or two along the way when it went rubbish.

KenDoddsDadsDogEatsTinsel · 26/12/2010 09:34

Twiggy had got them the Christmas tree.

lottiejenkins · 26/12/2010 09:38

Geoffrey Hughes who plays(ed) Twiggy has been very ill, that might explain why he wasnt in the show??

kerstina · 26/12/2010 09:40

Thought it was brilliant as usual .My son (8) loves it almost as me. Thought it was shocking when it looked like Jim still had his pants on when he went to the toilet and he turned his behind to the camera.Grin
Am i the only one who loved last years too ? Probably because its so close to home as we go away to Wales to a caravan and my mom and dad always take the actifry chip fryer with them !
Is Caroline Adherne a mom i just wondered if she avoids bringing the children into the script as she does not feel she has enough personal experience ?

purepurple · 26/12/2010 09:42

Loved it, was really funny.
Especially the Baileys, as it remimded me of when DS21 poured his first Baileys, into a pint glass and just kept on pouring.

FunnyLittleFrog · 26/12/2010 09:46

They had their golden anniversary last year so if Anthony is now 30 that means they had been married for going on twenty years when they had him??

jazzchickens · 26/12/2010 09:48

Loved it & I noticed the Pom Bears!

I loved it when Barbara gave Cheryl the Bailey-esque drink. Those are my kind of measures Xmas Grin.

Balthasar · 26/12/2010 09:58

twiggy did get the christmas tree - also did you notice there was a reference to the tree being stolen from outside the old folks home. Coincidence? Grin

I loved Joe's poem..."now you're in heaven and one day I'll see you there, I'll spot you straight away with your ginger hair"

NotEnoughTime · 26/12/2010 10:08

I cracked up when Joe said said they put a picture of Cheryl (Cole-not her daughter!) in Marys coffin.

I thought it was a brilliant episode, always that great mixture of happy and sad.

Numberfour · 26/12/2010 11:40

I loved it too, but missed the Pom Bears!
Loved the Baileys, pictures of Mary and the main guy's (sorry for not remembering his name) filthy feet!! They were DISGUSTING!!
