To want people to stop referring to "my iphone", "my Blackberry", etc?

For example:

"So nice to see you again! Let me put your number into my iphone."

Why not just say "phone?" I find it an unspeakably naff indication of how much commercialism has seeped into every aspect of our lives. The other thing I loathe is: "Sent by my Blackberry", for the same reasons.

I know the word 'Hoover' was/ is used in much the same way, and it means we the consumers do a great job of promoting these products for free. We really shouldn't, should we?

Until people stop walking around with 'Nike' or 'Bench' and the like right across their chests you might be facing a losing battle.

I have a rule of sending an email back to [virtually] anyone who hasn't deleted the "sent from my iPhone/Blackberry" bollocks off their autosignature. It states simply 'wanker'. I draw the line if my boss does it - actually, I don't, I draw the line at my boss' boss' boss.

I would object less to the "let me put it into my iPhone" for some reason - not sure why. Face to face contact and not automated wankery?

In some cases where people have a Blackberry for work-related purposes andanother phon of some kind for personal it makes sense.

I try to refer to my iphone with a silent 'i' if I can.

What is vac'ing up? Vacuuming? Hoovering is the accepted generic now, as Kleenex is in the US (but not here). Now when people say 'Dysoning' that's wanky.

I would never say dysoning but do say hoovering, that surely goes back to the 70's when I was a child and is therefore non-poncey.

I have an iphone and a blackberry and have never said 'how nice to see you again, let me put your number into my blackberry/iphone' because if it was work (blackberry) they would have given me a business card and if it wasn't work I probably wouldn't want their number anyway because if I haven't seen them for ages it probably means I don't really like them a great deal.

I have a Blackberry and have left the "sent from my Blackberry" thing on it as it is true that sending an email from a tiny annoying mobile phone basically means your email will be much less well written and have many more mistakes in it. So it is a disclaimer, basically, not a show off thing.

I do call it my "phone" though but that's because I don't have another mobile - if I had a personal mobile as well, I'd probably refer to that as my phone and call the dreaded Blackberry the Blackberry.

Barely even noticed the sent from my iPhone signature let alone thought about it. I don't linger on it that much, just write the email and end.

I've left the sent by Blackberyy on for 2 reasons, 1) it explains the rubbish typing, 2) I've no idea how to take it off.

I hate this too. The annoying thing is - I do it. Which drives me crazy. No idea why I do it. It's not like I watch the advertising. Have been desperately trying to stop but it's not working.

Stark, why not change the message so it just says " sent from my phone"? It's like wearing a t-short with Gap emblazoned across the front.

I always delete the "sent from my iPhone" as it gives away the fact that I was answering the email on my way to work late/from the pub cafe instead of being at my desk!

i dont even know how to take the sent from my iphone thing off, i quite like it anyway so happy to leave it on. Dont think i would say "put your number into my iphone" though!

I have an iPhone but I have never ever said let me put your number etc in my iPhone I just say phone but thinking about it, I know plenty of people who do, usually guys interestingly enough!
