To want people to stop referring to "my iphone", "my Blackberry", etc?

For example:

"So nice to see you again! Let me put your number into my iphone."

Why not just say "phone?" I find it an unspeakably naff indication of how much commercialism has seeped into every aspect of our lives. The other thing I loathe is: "Sent by my Blackberry", for the same reasons.

I know the word 'Hoover' was/ is used in much the same way, and it means we the consumers do a great job of promoting these products for free. We really shouldn't, should we?

So you got the Bluetooth keyboard? Is it good?

DontLetTinselDragOnTheFloor · 23/12/2010 22:35

Its lovely. I can even use it slumped on the sofa with some carefully placed cushions.

Lotkinsgonecurly · 23/12/2010 22:36

Sent from my bog standard normal laptop. But MINE not dh's or anyone elses!

JingleBelleDameSansMerci · 23/12/2010 22:36
Xmas Biscuit

Sent from my notepad thingy as can never be arsed to MN on either my Nokia phone or Blackberry.

Namethechange · 23/12/2010 22:46

This is sent from my iPhone as are most of my
mumsnet messages , I would never say my iPhone though it's a bit naff, I will confess to being addicted to it though just because it has so many handy uses for
me , I know it really annoys people when I keep looking at it so I'm trying to curb it , my dh is worse though

Bouncingback · 23/12/2010 22:50

I often say..I'll just put your contact details into my nokia N3/4c6/69ner...I find that they are quite impressed that I own an 'up-market phone'...but that falls into insignificance when I say ' I'll pick you up in the Jaggggg' Grin

Soups · 23/12/2010 23:32

I haven't changed the "sent from my Blackbery" thing. It lets people know my message was typed on a tiny qwerty. I do know how, but I can't be arsed to change it. A huge percentage of my friends have iphones so I kinda like seeing the blackberry logo in my social networking feeds to break up the apple ones.

EduStudent · 23/12/2010 23:35

I haven't removed the 'sent from my Blackberry' (is it possible?!) because what difference does it make other than possibly explaining shittily formatted/typed emails.

But I do want to thump my boyfriend when he calls them our blackberries - it's my phone!

FrustratedHippy · 23/12/2010 23:37

never done it nor heard anyone do it

i think you are imagining it and jealous

Garcia10 · 23/12/2010 23:40

YABU

Who cares what people call their mobile phones? I personally have a lot more to think about than whether people describe their mobiles by a generic or a brand name.

In fact - I am disappointed with myself for responding to your thread as it is so pointless.

Soups · 23/12/2010 23:48

EduStudent my BB it's setup, email setting. Select the account, Edit, scroll down.

rudolpherina · 24/12/2010 00:21

Because to call my iphone a phone is a total insult to its brilliance. You call your children by their names dont you? Well my iphone is as equally important. I adore it totally head over heels in love with it actually. You're just jealous you havnt got one. Na na na na ne ne

SnowyGonzalez · 24/12/2010 00:38

I do have an iPhone, But it appears that I'm more clued in to marketing bollocks than some of you blind sheep Grin.

Honestly I am amazed that so many people are happy to act as a free billboard for a billions-of-dollars turnover multinational. But I am also heartened to see that some people on this thread do actually think about their actions.

Ooh yes that sounds very arsey, but you know I'm right. Wink

Oh and Rudolph, you say that your iPhone and your children are "equally important". That is definitely the stupidest post I've ever seen in all my years on MN and I do hope you were being ironic!

No, YADNBU. This unpleasant logo name dropping is just another symptom of people becoming slaves to the system instead of making the system work for them. As in "I will work 60 hours to namedrop your product", instead of "In order to buy your product it must save me time, energy and money and I don't care what it's called".

ccpccp · 24/12/2010 09:03

An iPhone isnt just a phone though is it! Its so much more!

Everyone whos in the gang has got one.

And so shiney.

Lol rudolpherina! I feel exactly the same about my iPhone!

missismonky · 24/12/2010 12:22

Buying things with apples on them makes me happy because they work so much better and work together really easily. It's not about labels or showing off. A glance at my 13 year old Honda car and home filled with second hand or skip dived stuff confirms this.

Love from me and my 2 imacs, iPad, iPhone and iPod. Smile

SlightlySparkly · 24/12/2010 12:31

I have actually changed the auto signature to 'sent from my iPhone - hence typos'. I too use it as a disclaimer. Don't refer to it as an iPhone though - just my phone.

My iPad however, is referred to as my iPad because there isn't really a generic word - I am sure people will start using tablet or something when more brands make them, but at the moment I think tablet sounds more wanky than iPad.

I agree they are tossers, I'm also Envy because I don't have either.

theevildead2 · 24/12/2010 12:39

I work on switchboard. I get loads of Can I be put through to XYZ's Blackberry?

I think it's really weird. Like Blackberry is the ONLY possiblity for a mobile phone

SlightlySparkly · 24/12/2010 12:41

Brilliant pecan!
