5 year old on own all day

on hols at the moment. dd1 goes to kids club and has become friendly with another girl. shes in there from when dd gets there about 11.30 and she stays until 9pm.she also orders her food in.
i have met the parents once in 10 days but they are always off to confrence calls.
i think its a bit much.

So there for 9 1/2 hours. Not a big deal with 2 working parents. DD starts breakfast club at 7.45 and gets collected from childminder at 6pm. Odd to think this would be viewed as on own all day.

Yes of course its far too much, but its not your business to comment, to judge or to post to AIBU. Are you wanting us all to bitch about her parents?

FWIW DD loves kids clubs on holidays and we have to drag her out.

Sounds like a sad situation.

When you say she orders her food in - what do you mean? I am picturing her doing the online Ocado shop? If I could train my ds to do that I would.

The Kids club r uns all day until 9pm? The 5yo calls up pizza express and orders her own dinner? Does the club not organise food for the children? And what sort of club is it - it runs very late?

Lots of children are in childcare during school holidays so YABU to think thats wrong, especially as your own DD is going too, albiet for shorter sessions.

Entirely up to the parents how they bring up their children.

its a hotel,she get the staff from kids club to order her food.they are supposed to be on holiday,shes been stuck inside for 10 days.mnw london,there would be nothing in aibu if it was down to you

She isn't on her own if she is in kidsclub. The thread title implies that she is being left unsupervised.

How can you know she is there all day everyday unless you/your kid is as well?

she;s not on her own, she's in a kids club, presumably with other children and with other carers/adults

how many hours is your DD in there for?

Yes well if its a hotel and your on holiday you aren't exactly doing anything different. Instead of spending time with your own family your on here slagging off someone elses.

Why don't you offer to take the little girl out for the afternoon?

If they are on holiday that is incredibly sad. But if they are working, I personally wouldn't do this to my child, but they may havve no choice.

No there would still be lots of AIBU - when you are posting about something that concerns YOU personally. Or when its about someone else but it really is totally negligent.

Leaving a 5 YO in all day childcare on holiday is personal choice. I wouldn't go it, but the child might want to be there all day. You don't know about the parents circumstances.

It's so easy to judge from a high height. Personally I would judge you as I wouldnt use a holiday club whilst on holiday but each to their own.....

Perhaps this holiday is a last ditch attempt to save their marriage hence needing time together.

hifi I don't think YABU. We have an only so we purposely pick places with a kids club so DS gets to meet some little chums. However he has the option of going in or not going in and we try to pick places where it is not a formal child care kids club, but a more relaxed drop in drop out smaller place ( although obviously with some security in place).

Ds will spend a couple of hours a day on holiday there and then spend the next couple of hours playing with his new friend with parental supervision. He has a great time and we get time to relax. He asked us to pick a place with kids club for holiday next year.

So far so good, as kids club is mutually beneficial for both DS and ourselves, but that is much too long for that girl to be in there. The parents should have left her at home if they could with a relative or nanny rather than plonking her in an unfamiliar setting for over 10 hrs per day. What age is she ?

Would help if I read the title Xmas Blush she's 5. That's sad then as our DS who is 4.5 would kick off merry hell if we left him on his own all day with people he didn't know, obviously she is used to it.
