It's my birthday tomo. Wanted to pop to shops alone (luxury!)to buy a new dress to wear for my meal out tonight.
But as I'm breastfeeding, I decided early this morning to forgoe the dress, incase I got stuck.
Have now decided to cancel meal as roads impassable
I'm hearing on news about gridlock all over London, car parks at bluewater, lakeside etc all jammed no one is going anywhere!
I feel smug for being home, warm, safe with my children!!!!

0Lucylabia · 18/12/2010 23:46

I totally agree!!

PocketMouse · 18/12/2010 23:47

Thunderthighs feel the cold though Strawbs Wink

Besides, all the lunatics near us have cleared out the shop of bread, milk, cheese and wine.. so there's no point bothering tbh Wink

scottishmummy · 18/12/2010 23:49

the mn paradox.everyone links dm,no one reads it.allegedly

0Lucylabia · 18/12/2010 23:50

Tears of sympathy are rolling down my cheeks, poor tiny Tim!
Life goes on, make your own cake!!

PocketMouse · 18/12/2010 23:50

wtf are you lot on about?

lololizzy · 18/12/2010 23:57

Strawberry tot..my workplace is very rural (surrounded by fields/ not even any houses nearby)(fab in summer though..beats office city life!) and not in my county.. and there is no public transport anywhere near it. Hate using car but no choice. It's the same for many people..Have to go where work is, not everyone can find it in their own town/city/village. I do an hour round trip to walk to shops in all weathers, this does not bother me. If not for my job, would give up car.

0Lucylabia · 18/12/2010 23:58

I guess that the term "Key Worker" to be a public sector employee term or phrase? Just how self righteous, important/ bumptious can one get?

scottishmummy · 19/12/2010 00:04

as funny as one whose name is evocative of fanny

gaelicsheep · 19/12/2010 00:04

People were warned about this snow days ago.

0Lucylabia · 19/12/2010 00:04

Well said, I couldn't agree more!

Why take the car out, why not put some practical (non-fashionable) boots on ones feet and use shank's pony (ie walk) to the shops to get provisions?

PocketMouse · 19/12/2010 00:07

because the twats muppets near us have cleared any shops within walking distance of all the bread, milk, wine and fags.

I think I'll stay at home and drink port.

ItsMeMo · 19/12/2010 00:08

Some people really need to get in to work OLucy. Such as emergency services? Doctors & Nurses. The people that grit the roads? To mention but a few.

If everybody stayed home then what would happen?

Would all the patients in the hospitals just be left to fend for themselves?

Prison inmates left to starve or should they be let free on account of the fact that they can't get anywhere because the people that grit the roads aren't around?

Grin

Not really sure what your point is OLucy.

claig · 19/12/2010 00:08

'the mn paradox.everyone links dm,no one reads it.allegedly'

I read the Daily Mail, I find it's the only paper worth reading.

scottishmummy · 19/12/2010 00:08

well where i am still plenty olive oil, artisan bread, and if not the nanny can walk to shop

0Lucylabia · 19/12/2010 00:11

I totally concur!

PocketMouse · 19/12/2010 00:11

with WHAT?!

you're mad.

gaelicsheep · 19/12/2010 00:12

"MANY employers will not pay if you cannot get to work due to snow." I'm surprised any do. You save leave and if you need it, you take it. That's always been accepted in the rural areas I've lived in.

PureAsTheColdDrivenSnow · 19/12/2010 00:12

this thread's gone to bonkers town...

scottishmummy · 19/12/2010 00:13

what are you on about save leave?who thinks aye that 3-5 days keep that just in case

PureAsTheColdDrivenSnow · 19/12/2010 00:15

well I've got 17 days leave left, you're just obviously ill prepared Wink

(my leave year just started btw)

gaelicsheep · 19/12/2010 00:17

I always have done, and so have my colleagues. It does help that the leave year finishes at the end of January and we can carry over up to 5 days. I save those 5 and if I haven't used them I carry them over. Smile

scottishmummy · 19/12/2010 00:19

my leave is projected and cover is planned, dont fanny about with ach kit may snow leave

gaelicsheep · 19/12/2010 00:21

Do you expect to be paid if you can't get in due to snow?
