It's my birthday tomo. Wanted to pop to shops alone (luxury!)to buy a new dress to wear for my meal out tonight.
But as I'm breastfeeding, I decided early this morning to forgoe the dress, incase I got stuck.
Have now decided to cancel meal as roads impassable
I'm hearing on news about gridlock all over London, car parks at bluewater, lakeside etc all jammed no one is going anywhere!
I feel smug for being home, warm, safe with my children!!!!

A spectacularly un-thought-out post, OP. Hey-ho, another year older, a bit wiser hopefully.

Wordsonascreen · 18/12/2010 14:36

Well I won't wish you a happy birthday then

[sinks to OPs level]

trixie123 · 18/12/2010 14:36

Agree with the others - a very nasty post. I popped to supermarket with DS this morning no sign of snow. By the time I came out it had just started and I got home ok but if I'd been 20-30 mins longer we'd have been stuffed. Cheers! Xmas Hmm

Rupreckt · 18/12/2010 14:38

Am not sure that the OP was trying to be so mean. She was just pleased that she is at home and decided not to go out.

No need to all have a go at her.

A lot of the cars trapped on the M25 yesterday were filled with parents bringing their babies safely home from university.
Or would you just leave your child to cope, because you were safe and snug?

Goblinchild · 18/12/2010 14:41

'No need to all have a go at her'

Schadenfreude pisses me off.

VivaLeBeaver · 18/12/2010 14:42

I think being happy that you made the right choice is fine. Calling people "idiots" and being smug is twattish.

My DH is stuck in the snow somewhere in Europe. Am glad that you're "smug" that he's been stuck for 2 days and may struggle to get back for Xmas. After all he's obviously an idiot for been sent to work in Sweden for the last month and deserves everything he gets. Hmm

ItsMeMo · 18/12/2010 14:42

Very mean post. Biscuit

mangoandlime · 18/12/2010 14:42

People are probably getting worried now about seeing relatives and friends over Christmas - Internet shopping is at a standstill, there's not much choice but for some people to go out and brave it. That's not even starting with people trying to get to work, visiting sick relatives in hospital etc etc.

Folk are just doing their best at a very difficult time.

NorthernLurker · 18/12/2010 14:43

850 000 users, 30 posts on this thread - so far. We aren't ALL having a go at her. Grin

snowyweather · 18/12/2010 14:43

Really feel for all the people having to work today, including those who work in luxury dress shops that might have to deal with tricky customers.

ItsMeMo · 18/12/2010 14:43

My friend's DH is stuck in Amsterdam. Who knows when he'll get back. I'm hoping he'll be back for Christmas.

But as long as you are cosy.

YABU, my dh had to out this morning help his nan with her heating, he's now stuck about 30 mins normal driving time from home.

Ba8y1 · 18/12/2010 14:45

Ridiculously insensitive post.

OP perhaps you should get out more...

NinkyNonker · 18/12/2010 14:46

We were forecast heavy snow, had a cm or 2 overnight now glorious sunshine!

Ladybuglet · 18/12/2010 14:46

You are a really nasty person.

I'm a doctor with a 45 minute commute, I'm also 26 weeks pregnant. I left this morning knowing full well I might get stuck in the snow but accepting that I'm needed at work. I could be battling to get in to look after one of YOUR family.

Some if us have no choice but to venture out, some are simply unlucky. I suspect one of these days this will bite you on the butt.

Hopefully you'll have a miserable birthday

reup · 18/12/2010 14:47

I luckily got home. But I had to go this work this morning or i would not have got paid. It took ages to get home but I need that money. Not for a new dress but lifes essentials.

ChippingIn · 18/12/2010 14:48

If this isn't you intentionally being nasty, I'd hate to see what you're like when you are!

How horrible to be you.

It wasn't forecast everywhere - we weren't meant to get any - tell that to the 6 inches on my driveway!

I hope you aren't having anything delivered, don't need any emergency services and that you aren't relying on anyone else who needs to drive.

Ugly attitude.

Bunbaker · 18/12/2010 14:49

I don't feel smug, just thankful.

mangoandlime · 18/12/2010 14:49

Ba8y1

she can't get out more. Well, not at the moment anyway. Grin

gingernutlover · 18/12/2010 14:50

yes, I felt like such an idiot when it took me 2.5 hours to drive 2 miles last night - I mean, how silly of me to decide to drive home from work to the childminders to collect my dd!!

I am sure you didnt mean it like that but some people have no choioce but to go out, whatever the weather.

Have a lovely birthday tomorrow and feel grateful you can just decide to stay at home - I feel really really sorry for those who have no choice. I know I am very very relived that I finished work for Christmas yessterday and don't have to go anywhere.

JeezyPeeps · 18/12/2010 14:57

YABU to be smug.

YANBU to be relieved/glad that you didn't go out.

FrostyAndSlippery · 18/12/2010 14:57

Did you read the thread during the snow the other week, OP, where an MNers friend had died because of helping somebody stuck in the snow? I'd guess not. :(
