It's my birthday tomo. Wanted to pop to shops alone (luxury!)to buy a new dress to wear for my meal out tonight.
But as I'm breastfeeding, I decided early this morning to forgoe the dress, incase I got stuck.
Have now decided to cancel meal as roads impassable
I'm hearing on news about gridlock all over London, car parks at bluewater, lakeside etc all jammed no one is going anywhere!
I feel smug for being home, warm, safe with my children!!!!

Thank you scotishmummy i think I am. But its my first.. so what do I know! Grin

dockate · 21/12/2010 10:41

What a nasty post, MayDayChild. How about some Christmas Spirit and Goodwill to all? How very unpleasant you are.

amberleaf · 21/12/2010 10:47

People just love having someone to 'take it out on'

Im quite happy to be in the minority if the majority are humourless whinging sheep Grin

klauskinskiinthekinotech · 21/12/2010 10:51

You are a nasty cow, I am sorry to say to say this on mnet. My ds is a nurse at Cardiff University Hospital and got hellishly stuck for 3 hours trying to get in to help on shifts. She is an A&E nurse FYI so you caan eat a ton of humble mince fucking pie for what you said. These people are not idiots and some like my ds are having to get out and work in horrendous conditions. My df was a GP in the old days who had to get out and do home visits in all weathers and he is certainly no IDIOT so thanks...

Do people REALLY think she is talking about people who have essential work related journeys to make???

Or is she actually talking about those with non essential things like her own that she cancelled?

It was a lighthearted post FFS stop being such bullies!

scottishmummy · 21/12/2010 11:05

you can say ffs and get a grip all you wish - but cant polish a turd.not even this turd

amberleaf · 21/12/2010 11:09

No you certainly cant, but you can def make a mountain out of a molehill Smile

scottishmummy · 21/12/2010 11:13

and you can be contrary and claim bullying just to prove a point too

amberleaf · 21/12/2010 11:19

yep, especially if the point is i dont agree with the majority who are coming across as bullies!

Do go on anyway...have the last word Smile

TyraG · 21/12/2010 11:46

DH finally made it home this morning.

I'm curious as to how the OP could distinguish between the essential and non-essential journeys in the stories she was hearing about people stuck in the snow. She refers to hearing about the gridlock and to the "idiots" stuck in the snow. These things apparently made her feel "smug". So no, I don't for one minute think the OP thought to herself 'oh look at all those people stuck in the snow. I feel very sorry for the key workers/emergency services/people trying to reach loved ones etc but for the 18.5% who are idiots and set out in full knowledge of the weather conditions, ha! Yah boo sucks to you!"

It was a knee-jerk post, badly thought-out, and based on clear ignorance or lack of imagination about other peoples' situations. It should never have been said.

I am from the north-east and I have a complete lack of patience for people who go out, unnecessarily in bad conditions and who go out unprepared. There are a lot of people who could stay home and not tax the emergency services. However, I understand that people are caught by surprise and underestimate the conditions. Even if I thought they had been silly, if I saw pictures of people stranded in their vehicles, smugness would be very far from my mind. My mother and I were stranded in freezing gridlock for 8 hours when I was 7, through no fault of ours. I remember how cold and frightened we were and how pathetically grateful we were when a lorry driver let us sit in his cab and shared his coffee with us. I remember how my godfather and his friend walked for miles through the snow looking into every car window to try and find us. Peope die in the snow. People are frightened and cold and miserable.

So to be honest I think the OP deserves a pasting if it makes her a bit more compassionate. I don't think people should be wishing illness and catastrophe on her, but I think an apology for the offence caused wouldn't go astray. OP?

Animation · 21/12/2010 13:35

Amber - I also read the OP in the light hearted way it was intended, as I'm sure many others' have who haven't posted here.

blackcurrants · 21/12/2010 17:05

Thanks for your kind wishes, everyone, and to be honest I'm a bit sorry I posted my woes here, I was a bit emotional last night as I'm so bloody disappointed that we're stuck in the US because of the snow and will miss the long-awaited Christmas reunion in England. The 'I'm safe at home with my family and so I'm smug' post got my back up a bit, but it's not the OP's fault I'm stuck.

However, YABU to think that everyone who's stuck is an idiot. Who are we to decide what's a necessary journey? It's not necessary that I fly home, I'm still trying to with all my resources. It's not necessary that my mum goes up in the snow to dig out my elderly grandma who says she's absolutely fine, except that she's worried about her so wants her to see another human face today...not life or death, but about kindness and compassion. I agree with KungFuPanda - I don't take unnecessary journeys in the snow, I also grew up in the North East where it can really snow and learned to respect that fact.
Thing is, the OP just says "people stuck in snow are idiots" because she had the luxury of staying home. She's BU, and it wasn't light hearted, it was cruel, or at the least, utterly thoughtless.

expatinscotland · 21/12/2010 17:22

Did the OP ever come back to this thread? Or did she have enough of a brain to realise being a complete cow isn't on and namechange/go away?

theevildead2 - what job does your DH do that he would be sacked for taking the responsible decision to keep himself and others safe and not cause yet another problem for the emergency services? Is he in the emergency services himself?

mumoverseas · 22/12/2010 03:29

amber sorry, was joking Blush
I think that sadly some do namechange a lot for that very reason
