It's my birthday tomo. Wanted to pop to shops alone (luxury!)to buy a new dress to wear for my meal out tonight.
But as I'm breastfeeding, I decided early this morning to forgoe the dress, incase I got stuck.
Have now decided to cancel meal as roads impassable
I'm hearing on news about gridlock all over London, car parks at bluewater, lakeside etc all jammed no one is going anywhere!
I feel smug for being home, warm, safe with my children!!!!

Never happened to me before and i hope never ever again!!! I wouldnt have even been embarrassed about finding a bush by the hard shoulder. but a high fence??! no chance. and all the men out there peeing away!! i hated them!!

lololizzy · 18/12/2010 20:27

ah God hope no one remembers my user name now ie always the association of 'she's the one that peed herself in her car' !!! just don't ask me for a lift lol won't be nice till can get seat sorted Blush

MeUnscrabbly · 18/12/2010 20:29

I found out recently that a colleague keeps a washing up bowl in the boot of her car for exactly that reason, lololizzy. Poor you Sad

On a lighter note, she told me this whilst filling the bowl with leftover food from the works party. It was only when I looked like this ----> Xmas Shock (hat included) that she mentioned she'd not yet needed to use it Grin

lololizzy · 18/12/2010 20:36

lololizzy
You have ALL my sympathy, I have driven up back roads before now but have never had to succumb to wetting mself - its my worst nightmare.
I am so so sorry you had to do that.

FrostyAndSlippery · 18/12/2010 20:42

Seems like our economy is based too heavily around the motor car.

So true.

When it snows it makes me see the positive in the fact we can't afford a car. I've been amazed at the amount of (perfectly fit) people who are totally freaked out because they can't use their cars. Especially in our village where for a healthy person the shop is very accessible even in the snow.

JarethTheGoblinKing · 18/12/2010 20:43

lololizzy - my sympathy too! I was once stuck on the A40 for 3.5 hours during the floors a couple of years ago at 20 weeks pg. How I managed not to piss myself I have no idea... I somehow made it to the service station there was someone hogging the toilet!

Am LOLing a bit at the OP now.. I've never seen anybody on MN take quite such a pasting Grin

undercovasanta · 18/12/2010 21:00

Lololizzy- maybe your mistake was packing the water Wink !

LifeForRent · 18/12/2010 21:02

YANBU. I think it's quite funny. Then again I seem to dwell on other peoples' misery (this somehow makes me a bigot according to a certain MNetter). They'll get over it, when they get out of the it.

LifeForRent · 18/12/2010 21:04

I just read the rest of the posts. Don't feed bad OP. Too many do-gooders feeling bad about people in situations they can't avoid.

I'm lovely and warm and dry at home. And while I'm not particularly smug, I don't particularly care!

pagwatch · 18/12/2010 21:05

I agree jareth

I think there are a lot of pissed off mners at home today and op incurred their wrath....

Frankie Boyle makes jokes about a boy with autism trying to fuck his mother and gets more support

Mn is a strange yet wonderful place ....
Grin

VivaLeBeaver · 18/12/2010 21:05

Might not make you a bigot but it does make you rather sad.

lololizzy · 18/12/2010 21:07

Didn't even drink any water didn't want to make it worse! Would NOT use car for anywhere else but no public transport whatsoever to my very rural isolated workplace.
Hope all the people i saw stranded today make it home safely

scottishmummy · 18/12/2010 21:08

YABVU - you might find that you are one of the 'idiots' one day when you dont expect it - nasty & uncalled for

lololizzy · 18/12/2010 21:22

scottishmummy · 18/12/2010 21:27

chaya5738 · 18/12/2010 21:33

Congratulations LifeForRent! You are officially my least favourite MNetter! I imagine you are quite proud of that achievement Grin although the competition wasn't particular tough

I wonder if we would get on in RL...

libelulle · 18/12/2010 22:24

You are lovely aren't you Hmm my mum's been stuck broken down on the a40 for 7 hours. She's in her late 60s, has circulation problems and is getting increasingly cold despite having warm clothes. So nice to know that kind people such as you are wishing her well. Shall I laugh at you next time you are in danger?

Sometimes mumsnet makes me all warm about human nature. Sometimes I wonder at the dregs of misery and nastiness that it pulls out of the woodwork.

scottishmummy · 18/12/2010 22:29

is your mum with someone?you must be out of mind with worry.thats a real shame.

lololizzy · 18/12/2010 22:31

Yeh i wonder too. Seems to be a lot of deliberate misery spreading on some threads. Hope your mum will be ok, libelulle.

MadameDefarge · 18/12/2010 22:32

Smug? For not going out? whoo hoo for you. Silly girl. How about a little empathy for the rest of the world who have obligations that mean they have to go out.

tsk tsk.

I don't have a car. which means when I fetch ds its on a bus. Equally open to the vagaries of bad weather, without the heating.

nightmarebeforechristmas · 18/12/2010 22:33
