It's my birthday tomo. Wanted to pop to shops alone (luxury!)to buy a new dress to wear for my meal out tonight.
But as I'm breastfeeding, I decided early this morning to forgoe the dress, incase I got stuck.
Have now decided to cancel meal as roads impassable
I'm hearing on news about gridlock all over London, car parks at bluewater, lakeside etc all jammed no one is going anywhere!
I feel smug for being home, warm, safe with my children!!!!

yabu

we checked weather forecast, all clear so went off to milton keynes to do some shopping (40 minute drive). When we left to go home it was snowing and we were stuck on the motorway for 7 hours with a 2 year old and a 5 year old. It was an utter and total nightmare. Of course once we got home there was no snow at all there. I wouldnt feel smug, I'd feel very sorry and sympathetic for anyone stuck in traffic.

VivaLeBeaver · 20/12/2010 11:22

Tyra G - my DH was stuck in Paris airport yesterday, he ended up getting a eurostar home.

TyraG · 20/12/2010 14:35

Thanks Viva, will check with DH and see if he can't do that as his flight this morning was cancelled as well.

MABS · 20/12/2010 15:33

what a dreadful op. sure I am really 'lucky' that ds's very important post op appt with surgeon in London was cancelled. Lets hope he doesn't relapse over Christmas.

But hey ho least i can stay at home smug and warm instead.

mumoverseas · 20/12/2010 16:35

MABS how is the young man doing? Keep meaning to ask for update? Hope all ok and you manage to get him a new appt asap x

MABS · 20/12/2010 16:56

Mos - he doing ok, but would have liked him checked out today to be honest. x

mumoverseas · 20/12/2010 17:11

I know sweetie, of course you do. I'm sure he will be fine and fingers crossed you won't have to wait too long for your reassurance from hospital.

Has it all gone quite now on AD possibility?

MABS · 20/12/2010 17:32

thanks Mos, I speakin to doc tmro morning. Not entirely quiet on ad, we will see :) I be in dxb in feb if you around??!! x

mumoverseas · 21/12/2010 03:14

ooh, when in Feb? we are thinking of going around 27th for DD2's half term.
DC1 and 2 having a nightmare at LHR. They are there but BAA are refusing to let people into T1 even though their flight is still scheduled. Yesterdays Riyadh flight made it out and left here at 2.30am so on its way back, landing at LHR (hopefully!) at 6.30am so kids need to check in at 7am but they cannot get into terminal Angry
If your DH is there today can you get him to kick some arse Wink

blackcurrants · 21/12/2010 04:22

YABU.
I was supposed to fly home last Saturday (from New York to Heathrow) for the first time in 2 years. First time we've been able to afford it. We were taking our 5 month old DS to meet his grandparents and cousins. Big family reunion at my parents' house.

We've now spent 2 days at the airport, Sat and then today (when we were supposed to get our rebooked flights - only they were cancelled again) - and it takes us 2 hours to get across the city and to the airport each time, then we queued for hours while everyone was rude and no one told us anything, and then we were told no flights, everything cancelled despite the website and airline's phone service saying ours was going.

We did all we could: checked in advance, rebooked to later flights... and we can't get to England before Christmas day at 5pm. Sad

2 years of saving. New baby. Me terribly, terribly excited about meeting nephews and nieces I've only seen photos of... and we're in our flat in new york, trying to be brave and not cry. 6 days gone from our lovely holiday time in England, seeing our families.

We're going to spend Christmas eve night on a plane, most of Christmas day in an airport waiting for a transfer - ... yeah, you enjoy feeling smug and 'prepared'. I've been preparing for this for four months, and can't do a bloody thing about the fact that I'm stuck here because of the snow.

berri · 21/12/2010 08:20

God I'm so sorry blackcurrants, your post has made me well up.

Fingers crossed you can get home as soon as possible and enjoy the last part of your holiday. What a nightmare :(

MABS · 21/12/2010 08:25

i am so very sorry blackcurrants .
(mos - 17 feb for 3nts)

maltesers · 21/12/2010 08:39

One day Maydaychild you will get stuck somewhere so dont be too smug. . ."pride comes before a fall" !!!!!!!

amberleaf · 21/12/2010 09:00

Oh FFS people get a grip!

I didnt see anything mean or nasty in the OP, she's clearly talking about people that had non essential things to do [like she did ie buy her birthday dress/go out for bday meal] and despite the weather warnings went and did them anyway.

She didnt mention Doctors/nurses travelling to work and other 'worthy' reasons to be out in it.

Maybe things would have been easier for those who really HAD to be out in it if the roads werent jammed with people out buying christmas crackers?!

I've certainly seen much nastier threads than this go unchallenged on here

OP I hope you enjoyed your birthday despite having to cancel your plans :)

MABS · 21/12/2010 09:10

very unnecessary and self indulgent op in my opinion

claig · 21/12/2010 09:11

well said amberleaf.
The OP is unable to reply, as she is stuck in the snow.

scottishmummy · 21/12/2010 09:41

whats oh ffs amber?read the op,engage a bit of context perhaps see why it annoyed people.her post is/was sublimely daft.hence the pasting she got.and the thread did develop as threads do hence other references

did you read about the children stuck no flights and elderly mum stuck in car in snow.these were v real events for people.not blithely undertaken journeys that required any smugness

so before you jump about and wave your get a grip stick have a wee think about her use of smug, and jolly hockeysticks tone.and excessive !!!!'s

MABS · 21/12/2010 09:45

indeed scottishmummy, my thoughts exactly

Animation · 21/12/2010 09:48

You tak the high road and I'll tak the low road and I'll be be in Scotland afore yea..

For me and my true love will never meet again in the bonnie bonnie banks of Loch Lomond....

Xmas Shock
claig · 21/12/2010 09:50

It's a long way to Tipperary

theevildead2 · 21/12/2010 09:53

How nice to have the luxury of staying home. My husband would probably get sacked if he did. ANd I can't afford to start my maternity leave early (due in 3 weeks it would be hilarious if i get stuck somewhere.. on a bus) wouldn't it?

scottishmummy · 21/12/2010 09:55

best wishes when your baby arrives ed2.are you all set

JuneMummy · 21/12/2010 10:09

OMG!. Cant believe someone could be so thoughtless to write such a post!!

amberleaf · 21/12/2010 10:11

scottishmummy

Err maybe YOU need to engage a bit of context?!

take the OP in the way it was intended [seems obvious to me]

People are just using this thread to talk about their own [justified] woes in the snow, everyone elses bad experiences are not the fault of the OP so...yeah.....get a fucking grip!

Gosh some of the stuff ive read on here could be really hurtful to me if i took it personally but i dont because its NOT personal!

Megatron · 21/12/2010 10:15

Blackcurrents, I'm so so SO hoping you get the chance to have a lovely time when you finally get here. Not everyone feels 'smug', most feel great sympathy for those in your situation it must be awful. Have a Happy Christmas when you finally get the chance to celebrate it.
