To open MIL's hideous presents early so I can exchange them?!

MIL buys my DD the most hideous looking granny type dresses - I have opened that part of the pressie so I can take it and exhabge it for some of the nicer dresses this high street chain does - I need to do it now before they go down in price after Xmas!

I mean, it is quite obvious how I dress my DD but she still buys her the most awful dresses! Yuk?

AIBU?

[:)] I seem to have hit a nerve, MsKalo.

LoopyLoopsOfSparklyFairyLights · 18/12/2010 20:16

Totally unreasonable and probably quite hurtful to your MIL, who is probably trying to impose some well-needed taste on someone who buys her poor child Hello Kitty clothes.

Have you pierced her ears too?

Sorry, that was really mean. I just hate all this Hello Kitty tat. I really do think though that you might want to try and see this from your MIL's point of view. She has bought her granddaughter some dresses that she likes. What harm does it do to anyone to dress her in the from time to time? Des she have to wear clothes to exactly your taste all the time? Why?

rainbowinthesky · 18/12/2010 20:18

I can see how if you were visiting mil then you'd want to probably dress dc in the clothes that were bought by her but if you dont see them often then it makes far more sense to exchange for something they will wear all the time.

MsKalo · 18/12/2010 20:20

Thanks rainbow the hint has been dropped and she knows my mum would rather give me money than buy stuff that might not be any good. She has also bought toys that they already have and then gets upset that they have them! I always politely say to her that she can ask me If they have it if they are unsure.

When they are older they can wear what they like - I am all for that

Loopy - my child has two hello kitty dresses and no slogan stuff and no pierced ears! She has lots of jojo stuff, h&m, next and boots etc... It is interesting how catty it can get on here...

I keep most of the stuff she buys but the stuff i really don't like I won't keep! Blimey! Is that really so bad?! It would not bother me!

LoopyLoopsOfSparklyFairyLights · 18/12/2010 20:27

It's the fact that you're opening presents early in the secure knowledge that you'll have to take things back that is entirely unreasonable.

MsKalo · 18/12/2010 20:29

No noble I am just an aggressive person who thinks your are talking shite and you are the one who seems to have a massive chip on your shoulder and like to be trollish

OP posts:
MsKalo · 18/12/2010 20:32

Ok loopy, I only opened the clothing bit so I don't get hit by the sale price! I am happy with the fact I changed two out of the five dresses she bought but appreciate people think differently!

LoopyLoopsOfSparklyFairyLights · 18/12/2010 20:44

But have you opened all of the household's presents for the same reason, or just those from MIL? Can you try and imagine how that might feel?

kittya · 18/12/2010 20:46

If you had a Kitty at home you couldnt avoid "Hello Kitty" crumbs you would say it to her everytime you saw her. Your house would be full of Hello Kitty cups, rubbers, pencils, knickers, tights, dolls, dresses etc etc. Its not about your tastes is it? its about what they want when they realise their name is plastered on everything!! Smile and, it is a very lovely name!!

Now, have you said which chain this dress is from? so that we can look ourselves. I like old fashioned granny dresses myself, especially when they are too young to express their own opinions!!

MsKalo · 18/12/2010 20:47

No other pressies just those clothes as i have been stung before! Gosh, this really bothers you doesn't it?! :-)

That you are.

AUBU?
Yes you are
Really?
Yes
This really bothers you, doesn't it?

Aggression, passive aggression and defensiveness leads me to believe you know you are being unreasonable, and you probably don't like yourself very much for it.

MsKalo · 18/12/2010 21:01

I don't think I am being unreasonable actually and look in the mirror before you cast your opinion of me feom your high throne! Wow, how sanctimonious you are !

I think you're confusing it with 'perceptive'.

Seriously now, let's stop. Wish you well really. :)

MsKalo · 18/12/2010 21:22
