to play my DD (11 weeks) metal music when she enjoys it

I'm very selective in what I play her making sure there are little to no curse words or inaudible ones.

I mean she giggles at Slipknot- Duality,
smiles all the way through Rammenstien.

She seems to be really enjoying it, however DM says i should be playing her classical music to boost her brain waves, even though there is no scientific evidence that this actually works.

Don't get me wrong I play her some happy kiddy songs too like Send me on my way- from Matilda.

Anyone else play alternative music to their LO's and have you noticed any disturbing behaviour if so?

I used to play Nine Inch Nails to mine when they were babies, it helped them to go to sleep.

They still listen to whatever I'm listening to, but I have to be a bit more careful with the lyrics now they're 5 and 4.

AngelZigzagsSparklyYuletideLog · 16/12/2010 22:44

I wouldn't worry too much about the swears on it, she's hardly going to start repeating them Grin

Ours have always listened to what we have on, can't avoid it really. When DD1 got old enough to pick up the swearing we just swapped metallica/rage against the machine for pink floyd/led zep, went down really well!

DD1 is into the Spice girls at the min Hmm but she still loves the stuff we play for her.

zisforzebra · 16/12/2010 22:46

Mine have been listening to Muse since they were in the womb. They love Green Day and Foo Fighters but are developing a rather worrying fondness for JLS Confused

I'm glad i'm not the only one then :)
shes currently listening to Kerrang very happily.

I know shes not going to start repeating swears but she's quite impressionable at the moment. she started swinging punches after watching wrestling to DP's amusment.

dd has always loved music, from Children's Classics to Meat Loaf! (Bat out of Hell is one of her faves). Don't worry, just cut the ones with swearing when they're old enough to pick it up. We can't play some of Meat Loaf's latest in the car.. some of the lyrics are not exactly suitable...!

MsKalo · 16/12/2010 22:49

Get the Metallica on!

AngelZigzagsSparklyYuletideLog · 16/12/2010 22:49

Zis, I see it as they've got to rebel against something, so the opposite to heavy rock is trendy crap Grin

DD1 knows I loathe wannabe with a passion, which I recon makes he like it all the more.

Blackletterday · 16/12/2010 22:51

Radiohead used to soothe dd when she was wee. For some bizarre reason they all go apeshit crazy when I play Massif centrale by Frank Black and the Catholics Hmm.

I don't play music a lot, but they know a few tunes via rock band and guitar hero.

Mimile · 16/12/2010 22:52

DD enjoys Marylin Manson, System of the Down and the like (not full volume though). She is still small (16mo) and I'll have to start checking on lyrics.
She also has the pixies for babies (kind of baby xylophone tunes) - I think I like ti more than she does, though.

zisforzebra · 16/12/2010 22:52

I think you're right angel I'm going to have buy some crap chart music and play it alot in the hope of pushing them back in the right direction Grin

BextheBambi · 16/12/2010 22:54

She also likes me singin "you're fit biut you know it" by the streets...vain child...

My 2 yr old dd is so familiar with rock and metal music, she now poses like some pumped up wrestler and shouts 'i am rammstein. Grrrrrrr!' at people who visit. Apart from that, she's mostly normal, so I wouldn't worry Grin

AngelZigzagsSparklyYuletideLog · 16/12/2010 22:55

hehe you've got to try to put them off somehow zis.

That just reminds me blackletter of the Royle family putting baby david to bed to No Surprises Grin

Classic.

Ds used to go to sleep listening to Slayer - south of heaven, he's more into Rammstien these days Xmas Smile

Standards must be maintained.

tutu100 · 16/12/2010 23:00

Ds2's favourite songs to be sung to sleep with were Dancing in the Dark by Brucie (not that rock n' roll) and Wasted Time by Skid Row. He was also partial to Mama Said by Metallica and Rocket Queen by Gun's n' Roses.

I don't really watch what he listens to as he doesn't talk although as he is now 2 I probably should put some of the albums away.

TBH he's probably going to be morte damaged by my singing than the song lyrics.

ratspeaker · 16/12/2010 23:04

YNBU

Just be prepared for the requests for Download or Sonisphere tickets as Xmas presents

BextheBambi · 16/12/2010 23:06

Darnsarfupnorf · 17/12/2010 02:35

OH had downloaded all the 'rockabye baby' albums for bump Grin theyre awesome! theres everythin from metalica to the beatles made into lullabyes!
some of the metalica and sabbath ones sound a bit creepy but the nivarna and greenday ones are my faves atm, they sound just like the songs!

SeaShellsFiringUpTheQuattro · 17/12/2010 03:11

Yanbu Grin Ds is currently obsessed with gorillaz' "dirty Harry", im a proud mammy. he loves kings of Leon and anything he can dance around like a loon to! Dh is a rammstein fan so will have to try that tomorrow :)

CheerfulYank · 17/12/2010 03:19

"I think you are really fit/but oh my God don't you know it..."

Thanks, Bex, now that'll be in my head for the rest of the night. :)
