to play my DD (11 weeks) metal music when she enjoys it

I'm very selective in what I play her making sure there are little to no curse words or inaudible ones.

I mean she giggles at Slipknot- Duality,
smiles all the way through Rammenstien.

She seems to be really enjoying it, however DM says i should be playing her classical music to boost her brain waves, even though there is no scientific evidence that this actually works.

Don't get me wrong I play her some happy kiddy songs too like Send me on my way- from Matilda.

Anyone else play alternative music to their LO's and have you noticed any disturbing behaviour if so?

My dd2 has had Rammstein from the womb...she loves em, 'pussy' is a particular fave of hers much to dh's disgust.

DS1 had marilyn mansons 'golden age of grotesque' from the womb.

Ds loved 'antichrist superstar' when he couldn't sleep

In the womb DD loved all the stadium rock.

I went to a "vintage years" club for a mates birthday and she was busting some moves to Motley crue, Europe, Boston, Meatloaf.

It's a shame DP can't dance to the beat like she can.

Let me tell you something which may,or may not,be relevant. When a relative's baby was newborn and for the first few months the baby's mum worked part time and dad stayed at home with baby. The dad was very involved in electronic 'trance music' and often put head phones on the baby and played the music to keep him quiet. When I saw the baby aged 4 months he was so happy-smiley and responsive but by 18 months there were development concerns and by 30 months he had been dx with autism.I have so often wondered if early exposure to that music could have contributed. What does anyone think?
Not at all the same as playing heavy metal of course.

booyhohoho · 17/12/2010 18:28

pranma, you know one child that listened to dance music and also happens to be autistic and you connect the two???

my cousin has black hair and she is autistic. in fact i know quite a few people with dark hair that are also autistic. do you think there is a connection? Hmm

LaWeaselMys · 17/12/2010 18:33

Putting headphones on a baby is probably not great for his hearing, but otherwise...

Of course they're not related! The autism probably explains why he was so obsessed with the repetatove beats of dance music, not the other way round.

EdgarAleNPie · 17/12/2010 18:36

outting headphones on a baby is a bit odd, but...no, i don't think that is going to make a NT baby autistic.

there are other people on here whose babies were happy/smiley and responsive and were later dx with Autism.

pranma - I think you should contact the Daily Mail with your findings.

BikeRunSki · 17/12/2010 18:43

Looks like you lot need some of these.

GothAnneGeddes · 17/12/2010 18:56

Interesting so many are mentioning Rammstein. I went to see them a few years ago and I have never seen so many children at a gig.

pranma · 17/12/2010 22:00

trance not dance and I was only wondering-in fact I am very glad of your opinions because I really didnt want there to be any foundation for my worry

cantgetlaidingermany · 18/12/2010 15:46

Goth...total opposite when I saw them this year, seemed to be alot more older people than younger
