we should take it in turns to sleep on the right hand side of the bed. DW is away for a few days and I have been sleeping on her side of the bed which happens to be the side I slept on before we met and the side I prefer
AIBU to want to take it in turns to sleep on the best side?

Yes, you should have staked your claim at the beginning, it's her side now, you'll just have to put up with it.Grin

spidookly · 14/12/2010 19:34

:o

trying to imagine my reaction if dh demanded we dud this...

Ummm, it just sounds so unsettling...

Maybe she'd prefer to just swap sides permanently?

MeUnscrabbly · 14/12/2010 19:35

Or maybe if you suggest it she'll prefer to sleep in a whole different bed. In a whole different house Grin

YunoYurbubson · 14/12/2010 19:35

We don't have sides. We just sleep wherever the children leave space.

Truckulent · 14/12/2010 19:35

Can you put your foot down with a firm hand?

VladimirsPukin · 14/12/2010 19:38

Truckulent
Yes I can and I wear the trousers in this house(but dont tell DW)

YANBU! DH works away three nights a week and I always sleep on his side then (when DD doesn't grab it first). Some weeks sleeping on the wrong side of the bed is the most exciting thing that happens to me!

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 14/12/2010 19:38

Hmm, DH used to insist that he slept on the side nearest the door, so when I rearranged the room (or we moved house), we sometimes ended up swapping sides of the bed.

Then I got fed up with it, and refused to move again.

kitbit · 14/12/2010 19:39

Do what I did - move the bedroom around then get in first on the first night of the new room arrangement. :o

TheFeministParent · 14/12/2010 19:40

Can you trick her with love? Perhaps a cuddle and roll, she may not notice? Grin

minipen · 14/12/2010 19:42

bunk beds? Then you will both be on the same side!

geraldinetheluckygoat · 14/12/2010 19:44

Plumm Grin
Why not suggest you swap. She might secretly hate her side. Or, she might secretly hate you for even suggesting it. But it's worth a try, eh?

Altaira · 14/12/2010 19:45

Is that the right side when you stand at the end of the bed facing the top?

Or is the right side when you are in bed and your right arm is then on the right edge of the bed??

I don't know what side of the bed I sleep on now Confused

VladimirsPukin · 14/12/2010 19:55

yes it is when I am standing at the bottom facing the top

YABU. Sleeping on the wrong side feels wrong. I like to sleep on DPs side if he's away because it smells of him but if I sleep on the wrong side when he's there, I get a very disturbed night. I also can't fit into a comfortable snuggle with him if I'm on the wrong side - and it really does feel like the wrong side.

DP is worse than me though - he thinks we have 'sides' on the sofa too.

I love the image of you putting your foot down with a firm hand Xmas Smile

Altaira · 14/12/2010 20:02

That is the best side. I would suggest a rota system or formal mediation. Best to avoid solicitors at this stage.

PlentyOfParsnips · 14/12/2010 20:06

Ah, according to your system, I sleep on the left side of the bed. The right side is the wrong side Xmas Grin

spidookly · 14/12/2010 20:12

The next time you are both going to bed together, just get into bed on her side without saying anything.

:o

I might do that tonight to DH to see what his reaction is.

Sides of the bed are so bonkers but yet so important without mattering in the slightest.

MeUnscrabbly I love your post and your name :o

thanksamillion · 14/12/2010 20:44

If she's away at the moment just assume the bed side that you want, move anything she keeps beside the bed to her new side and deny that there's been any change Grin

thatsnotmymonkey · 14/12/2010 20:47

My husband and I call that going on holiday-swapping bed sides, a novelty!

HelenLG · 14/12/2010 20:52

Me and DH swap sides according to whose on 'night duty' for DS's feed.

It means that not only can that person get up without waking the other, but you can sleep further away from DS and not be woken by his snuffling...

FYI DH's original side is better...

BlathIceSkate · 14/12/2010 20:59

DH insisted we swapped sides one night. I was reluctant but he insisted.

I got woken up at 6am the next day when his alarm went off as, still being half asleep, he automatically smacked his hand down where the larm should have been - and would have been has we not swapped sides. What he actually did was whack me on the ear while I slept!!

We don't swap sides anymore.

thatsnotmymonkey · 14/12/2010 21:09

pmsl blathiceskate i love that, I bet you wre so annoyed! Your poor ear hole!

celebmum · 14/12/2010 21:36

i like the middle side...Grin

DadIsSad · 14/12/2010 21:38

You could try sleeping upside down - that way you'd be on the right side without her moving.
