we should take it in turns to sleep on the right hand side of the bed. DW is away for a few days and I have been sleeping on her side of the bed which happens to be the side I slept on before we met and the side I prefer
AIBU to want to take it in turns to sleep on the best side?

BlathIceSkate Grin That's worthy of my nightly 'what I read on mumsnet tonight' report to dh. Excellent.

poorbuthappy · 14/12/2010 21:41

The only time me and dh swapped sides it lasted about 2 mins cos I actually started to feel sick! It was a bit like travel sickness, so we didn't do it again.

BlathIceSkate · 14/12/2010 21:55

In retorspect it's funny, but at the time I was NOT impressed!!

I was fast asleep when he cracked me right on the ear Sad

Glad I made your report to DH lukewarm. Next step - the weekly round up Xmas Grin Hope Aitch fixed my typos if it does!!

BlathIceSkate · 14/12/2010 21:56

fixes not fixed

Well, its a small first step to such greatness, but anything I can do to give you a leg up as it were.

BlathIceSkate · 15/12/2010 07:44

baby steps luke, baby steps Xmas Wink

BeenBeta · 15/12/2010 08:28

I insisted we swap sides of bed about 5 years ago. DW has never really got over it and still mentions it ocassionally.

Maybe I should suggest we switch back. Grin

VladimirsPukin · 15/12/2010 10:22

DadIsSad
That is a fantastic idea and it just might work. One added bonus is DW could suck my toes(oooh er misses)

ullainga · 15/12/2010 10:27

we had to swap our originial sides when I figured out that DH only turns clockwise. meaning that if he slept on the right side, during the night he would roll - one turn at the time - from his side to mine and I would wake up barely clinging to the edge of the mattress. now he sleeps on left, so only way he can go is over the edge :o

lowrib · 15/12/2010 10:32

"Putting your foot down with a firm hand"?! YABU on those grounds alone.

The mixed metaphor deserves gentle teasing, but a firm hand?! Shock

I would be livid if DP spoke about me in those terms. You treat a dog with a firm hand, not a partner!

TrinityMotherOfRhinos · 15/12/2010 10:32

I cant beleive that you think that you work out which side you are on by standing at the bottom of the bed

its just wrong

imagine the bed is a thing with hands that lives its life lying on its back

therefore where its right hand is IS THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE BED

I sleep on the right side

TrinityMotherOfRhinos · 15/12/2010 10:36

am I alone

surely its the ONLY way to talk about the sides of the bed

where its right hand is IS ITS RIGHT SIDE

Blush
BlathIceSkate · 15/12/2010 10:38

I would have worked out sides from laying on my back on it too Trin. So yes, laid on the bed staring at the ceiling, the right hand side of the bed would be on my right.

I sleep on the right too.

thell · 15/12/2010 10:39

Trinity!! Xmas Grin

You are right though - beds have a head and a foot, and it can't be lying on it's face!

ullainga · 15/12/2010 10:41

my bed has legs, therefore the imaginary bed-person is not laying on his back, he is on all fours. and the right side is the same as the one on the right when you are standing at the bottom.

VladimirsPukin · 15/12/2010 10:41

TrinityMotherOfRhinos
Thats just wrong. We should have a standard of finding out which side of the bed is which
lets not complecate the issue.
If you lie face down then the side you are on is different if you lie face up,so the standard should be to stand at the foot of the bed and face the pillows thus the correct sides will present themselves with no confussion

TheVeryLazyLadybird · 15/12/2010 10:44

I'm with you Trinity! I imagine being laid in bed... my right, right hand side.... makes sense!

Bramshott · 15/12/2010 10:45

I think you'll find that if you say 'stage right' and 'stage left' it will all become clear . . . Grin

stubbornhubby · 15/12/2010 10:45

the person who gets up most often in the night should have the side of the bed nearest the door...

TheVeryLazyLadybird · 15/12/2010 10:49

I prefer DHs side (he sleeps on my left... whatever bloody side that works out as!) and when he's away I sleep there, gonna be hard to give it up when he comes home, its been a long time this time! Grin

NigellaPleaseComeDineWithMe · 15/12/2010 10:52

Trin - you are right - I sleep on left side and DW on right - though sometimes after YKW we swap - not sure why Wink

sfxmum · 15/12/2010 10:58

I don't care about left or right per se it just has to be the side nearer the door, always
and whenever we are eating out I can never sit with my back to the door
he thinks I am a crazy freak

PsecretSantead · 15/12/2010 11:00

I am going to have nightmares about my bed being a person with hands and stuff now.

I sleep on the left, if looking at the bed from standing.

I think the least creepy best way of saying it is 'I sleep to my DH's right side' or 'DH sleeps at my left side' or so.

lowrib · 15/12/2010 11:06

ullainga that is a very strange image! Grin
