we should take it in turns to sleep on the right hand side of the bed. DW is away for a few days and I have been sleeping on her side of the bed which happens to be the side I slept on before we met and the side I prefer
AIBU to want to take it in turns to sleep on the best side?

If you stand at the bottom of the bed i sleep on the left, if i lie on the bed face up i sleep on the right. Am so confused now as to which side i sleep on Hmm Smile.

Me and DH sometimes swap as DD2 7 months sleeps in the middle and i lie facing her which means my left arm gets alittle stiff ifswim. so we swap to gibe my arm a break Grin

OP YABU to put your foot sown with a firm hand but YANBU to ask her to swap, she can only say no.

Oh no :( I'm on the wrong side of the bed atm and it's annoying me.

DP always has a big fuss about what is the "right side" for him and how he can't bear to be on the wrong side etc. I've generally been happy to fit in with him, especially if the bed's next to a wall as I like the wall side and he doesn't.
But in our new house the bed's not next to a wall and I like the side he likes! And because I've always been easy-going about it, he bagsied his side first.

I'm hatching a long-term plot to sort it out possibly by swapping the bedrooms around... but might try the taking turns angle on him.

But anyway OP it is a matter to negotiate, not "put your foot down with a firm hand". When I read that in the title I assumed you were talking about dealing with children's behaviour. Hmm

DP won't swap with me. He's been on the sofa for a few nights now (with a bad cold) and I've slept on the left as he's not been there - bloody lovely it is too.

I sleep on the right but I want to sleep on the left but Dh always wants the left Xmas Envy not fair! Think I'm gonna try swapping over later. see how long it is before Dh wants 'his' side back.

OTheHugeManatee · 15/12/2010 12:29

Left to my own devides, I sleep on all sides of the bed, a bit like a starfish.

DP and I have managed so far by not living in the same place all the time; I have said I won't move in with him unless we get a really massive bed Xmas Grin

Sorry, not very helpful, but I just couldn't resist popping in to see whether the OP had put his foot down with a firm hand yet.

*devices I mean

Putting your foot down with a firm hand is a valid option. Only those that don't understand the statement will disagree and possibly shout 'abuse' (this is MN afterall) Grin

I hate sleeping on the 'wrong' side of the bed, I always end up almost falling out - turning over and realising there isn't anything there to turn onto.

paddypoopants · 15/12/2010 12:51

Dh and I swap sides of the bed every 6 months or so, he calls it putting a bit of spice back into our marriage.

tooposhtopost · 15/12/2010 17:09

I sleep on the side with control of the radio Wink. That means that I also have the bedside light, so DH has to read at night with a miner's light on his head Grin. He has suggested changing sides but I refuse!! I simply know that he will set the alarm for the wrong time/ not at all and never turn the radio off so that it will wake me up at 3am with weird World Service stuff. There is always a better side :-) Your DW should defend it to the bitter end.

Oh, DH does HAVE a bedside light but the bulb blew in it a couple of years ago and I haven't got round to replacing it [shhhhhh...] as it shines in my eyes. DH doesn't know how to replace bulbs, luckily, and seems content with his headband torch and/or his electronic books.
