just wondering what age you left your baby for first time over night? ive left my 4.5mth dd with my parents or his during the day before when working, but never over night and on the 29th my oh sisters party is a hours drive away and we would have to stay over night and leave my dd with my mum, i think we going to go but still feel little bad about leaving her all day and night, going to miss her laods and its not like im that near, so was just interested to see when evryone else left their babies over night for first time?

5 weeks old. And she has stayed with her Gran every 4-6 weeks since then, usually for 2 or 3 nights.

BikeRunSki · 13/12/2010 21:53

I meant DH of course, not DG.

ChilledChick2 · 13/12/2010 21:54

DH and I never left our LO's overnight until they were 4 and 5yo. Other than that, it's normally been 1 or 2hrs for a meal.

TheUnmentioned · 13/12/2010 21:58

Ds for 3 nights :( when he was 3.9 to have dd.

DoNotWantAnotherMincePie · 13/12/2010 21:59

6 weeks. We were meant to go out for dinner but we went home and went straight to bed (to sleep).

Left him again about about 7 months for 2 nights while we went from London to Leeds for an operation (of sorts).

Both times he was left with my mum.

chaya5738 · 13/12/2010 22:02

I went away for two nights and left DD with husband at 14 months. We haven't left her with anyone other than us though and she is 17 months.

SeaTrek · 13/12/2010 22:09

DS was 15 months the first time I left him overnight. That was almost entirely dictated by finished BFing (13.5 months) and the occasions (SIL's 40th followed by brother's wedding a week later).

NorkyButNice · 13/12/2010 22:09

Ds1 was about 15 months I think - we lived overseas so no family to look after him overnight. We did get babysitters to go out for late dinners though!

DS2 was 2.5 months - back in the UK with grandparents begging to look after them so we went away for one night for DH's birthday. We ate dinner then slept for 12 hours straight - bliss!

7 months, six weeks Xmas Envy

Is anyone else tempted to print this thread out?

rookiemater · 13/12/2010 22:21

Mists I'm not getting what you are trying to say - is the snarky man because you don't think parents should go out at six weeks, or why you would want to print out the thread ?

Snowmanasarus · 13/12/2010 22:23

Never, and she is 7.5mo

Am breastfeeding and she doesn't sleep through so it wouldn't be very easy.

WestYorkshirePudding · 13/12/2010 22:23

3 or 4 months? Confused

I'm glad I was never precious about this (and had the offers of babysitting!) as I was admitted to hospital when DS2 was 8 months old and was kept in for a week. Worrying about how the boys would be without me there would have only been one extra thing to worry about at a very stressful time.

santasbluebaubles · 13/12/2010 22:24

DD1 is 2.10 and has never been left overnight. We are unlikely to be able to leave her and her sister overnight until they are old enough to be left on their own.

SparklyJules · 13/12/2010 22:29

DC1 at 5 months. DC2 at 10 months.

Mists · 13/12/2010 22:32

Eh rookie? Snarky man?

No I'm jealous of people who have had a night's sleep in the last 3.5 years is all. My son is autistic and sleeps like a newborn baby but neither my parents or DH's will help.

That okay?

signet · 13/12/2010 22:35

2 days old when i had to go home and leave DS in special care Sad

After that, I couldn't bear to leave him with anyone for anything so didn't do it again until he was 1 and only then because we were moving house and I needed him to be at his grandparents so we could get his new bedroom sorted for him.

He's 9 now and goes everywhere with anyone Grin along with his younger brother and sister!

rookiemater · 13/12/2010 22:35

Sorry Mists I now see it is an envious smiley, sorry my mistake, am perhaps over defensive and worried that people are judging because we went away when DS so young. Sorry to hear about your lack of sleep and lack of support.

Portofino · 13/12/2010 22:36

Dd at about 9 months I think. With my best friend. Apparently bf told dd all about her being PG - I had to wait a bit longer Grin

Hulababy · 13/12/2010 22:38

DD was 3y before we went away overnight. However we did unintentioanlly stay you most of the night when my parents babysat once when DD was about 16m or so - went to see a concert and it was about 5am by time we had driven back home.

TBH we still went out just there was no need for it to involve an overnighter.

Mists · 13/12/2010 22:40

No worries and thank you rookie Smile I was worried that I had put the snarky face by mistake (again) and good for you getting away. No judging from me!

dyzzidi · 13/12/2010 22:51

Okay I am prepared to be flamed but my DD was 10 days old when my sister came and told us to pack her a bag as she was taking her overnight. I was very relaxed about it as my sister hs kids of her own and is very capable. I'd had a planned c section and some additional surgery and was quite poorly, My husband was prparing to go to the USA to work for 8 weeks so we had a peaceful dinner and 12 hours sleep.

We don't leave her very often now she is 5 but she is always really keen on staying at my sisters/brothers and mums. I think any nerves I had were dealt with at such an early age its no stress at all now if she chooses to stay with mum.

Sops · 13/12/2010 22:58

If you will be able to relax and enjoy yourself I really think you should go and have a good time.
I know for an absolute fact that your dd will not resent you in her adult life for once going to a party when she was small.
Enjoy yourself please!

FrostyTheCrunchyFrog · 13/12/2010 23:05

My older two were 3.5 years, DS2 is going away overnight with SIL next weekend and is 23 months.

Booandpops · 13/12/2010 23:35

I'm gonna get flamed here. Dd1 can't remember about 15 mths but ds 2 was 12 days! My dh had proper flu and I trust my mum completly so he went to her he was bottled fed anyway (tried bf to no avail) he was fine and is my dm secret fave gc. Bless! Btw this was a one off and I'm not a everyweekend at grannies lady. Not that it would bother me chance would be a fine thing ha ha

lowrib · 14/12/2010 00:01

One year old - for New Year's Eve last year. But he was up crying all night without me.

That was the last time I went out all night, and I'm not planning on it again any time soon.

If he slept through I would, but he doesn't, and is incolsolable if anyone but me tries to put him down. when he's a bit older I hope he'll go stay at his GPs, perhaps sometime this year or next.
