Does anyone else want them? Why can't we have them?

Same here, its a slippery slope from avatars to tickers....

FullaDoll · 12/12/2010 13:12

Well, I guess there could always be an option not to see them.

I think an avatar gives a person a 'personality'. On other sites I go on where there are avatars, I instantly recognise the person from their avatar. Everyone seems so anonymous here...

Oooh, yes! And tickers! and bouncing emoticons!!

Hmm

No. No way in hell should we have any of that on Mumsnet. [shudder] Stick a picture in your profile and leave it at that.

ragged · 12/12/2010 13:13

Ugh, they are too visually distracting and they make the pages load more slowly. I am happy with clever text formatting and a few basic smilies, but keep it simple. Big reason why MN works so well is because the pages are so easy to read quickly.

Shock NEVER! God helps us.

"I think an avatar gives a person a 'personality"

Er, no. It is the actual content of posts which gives MNers 'personalities'.

A big fat NO to Avatars!

FullaDoll · 12/12/2010 13:28

No, I didn't mean that, I meant that when you see the avatar you instantly know who it is.

Anyway, I am clearly in a minority of one, so I'll shut up now!

I'm sure somebody will start a thread about it SGM Grin

catinthehat2 · 12/12/2010 13:40

Everyone knows what I look like anyway, what would be the point?

sixpercenttruejedi · 12/12/2010 13:45

I have little personality to flaunt, t'would be just another source of needless anxiety...I like it how it is.

MrsChemistrySetInMyStocking · 12/12/2010 13:48

I expect it would just be abused anyway and be a sea of the mumsnet bat and Terry Wogan's cock

I want an avatar, and I would also like a "Thanks" button. If you're reading through a long thread, and agree with a reply or find the advice excellent, it would be nice to be able to click on "Thanks" to acknowledge the post.
