...not really family viewing? I've barely watched x-factor in my life but I had thought everyone said that, for all its faults, it was something that had got families watching telly together. I was expecting wholesome boy bands and gutsy young girls. Clearly I'm naive and a prude.

What i love about Xtina is that even though she has gained some wait since the divorce, she still embraces her body and doesn't hide away because she isn't a skinny size 6!

amijee · 11/12/2010 22:33

Oh - I have no concerns about my body lady!

I'm 45 and was wearing a handkerchief last night to a christmas work do. I am not perfect but I am proud to show off my body.

oneortwo · 11/12/2010 22:33

I complained to ofcom straight away and hope everyone else who felt uncomfortable with it did too

MsSparkle · 11/12/2010 22:33

sorry weight not waitBlush

ellesbelles79 · 11/12/2010 22:34

YANBU - but how aout picking up the remote and changing the channel?

QuickLookBusySanta · 11/12/2010 22:34

We thought it was awful, totally inappropriate for pre watershed.

So gad there are plenty of others who agree.

I made a complaint to Ofcom. It took about 2 mins.

Hope everyone else will too.

TheCrackFox · 11/12/2010 22:34

Ah, so we are either jealous or prudish. Why are women not entitled to have an opinion?

weeonion · 11/12/2010 22:34

monkeyjamtart - aah - her clothes didnt just disappear - a male dancer removed them. Granted he too was showing a bit of flesh - his trousers only came down to his knee.

Ormirian · 11/12/2010 22:34

A handkerchief ? Where?

Ladyofthehousespeaking · 11/12/2010 22:35

Indeed mssparkle- can't believe someone called her fat earlier on :(

walkinginaWUKTERwonderland · 11/12/2010 22:35

Xtina is a singer MsSparkle.
What does her weight have to do with that?

JoBettany · 11/12/2010 22:35

MsSparkle for me it was the time it was on. If it had just been me watching I would simply have turned over. My DS, who is 8, absolutely loves the X Factor and so I found it very uncomfortable viewing. It was on pre watershed. I did switch over during both performances which predictably caused a major huff and then tears!

It didn't ruin the evening but I couldn't really relax after it. It honestly was not what I was expecting to see.

What I saw was sleazy and pretty seedy, not really what ITV should be providing for family entertainment! Perhaps it got better after I switched over...

walkinginaWUKTERwonderland · 11/12/2010 22:36

What a good idea Ellesbelles, that'll solve the problem Hmm

countless · 11/12/2010 22:36

amijee- are you my grandma? she told me ahe was 'just chilling' at home today

amijee · 11/12/2010 22:36

Orm - it's a figure of speech. It was one of those dresses that is very short and slashes across the shoulder.

HerBeatitude · 11/12/2010 22:36

Amijee that wasn't actually the question.

Ormirian · 11/12/2010 22:36

Ah! Thankyou.

MsSparkle · 11/12/2010 22:37

Because the dancing/set/costumes etc were based on Burlesque, the film she was there to promote. She didn't hide her body away but instead embraced it. I think that's a really heathly attitude to have. To love your body even when you gain a few pounds.

Nickiename · 11/12/2010 22:37

I think of Aretha Franklin, wonderful voice, astounding musical talent, powerful body, itelligent, challenging, political lycrcs,a career spanning many decades....and I look on this Jordaneque crap and I despair.

notjustapotforsoup · 11/12/2010 22:38

Remember when Bucks Fizz caused all that
commotion when their skirts were whipped off them? Check it out on You Tube. And note your response now.

Not only do female singers have to hit the right notes, but they also need to know how to bump and grind AND have a BMI on the low end of normal (to be charitable) to be acceptable. I watched Take That on Strictly - they had it very easy. They only had to hit the right notes and/or mime in time. A few years back, Gary didn't even have to have the BMI thing in his mind.

I am starting a "Get Your Cocks Out for the Women" campaign. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em, right?

Or maybe not.

amijee · 11/12/2010 22:38

I agree Ms Sparkle.

Ladyofthehousespeaking · 11/12/2010 22:38

I just think this has gone on for bloody decades

elvis and his hips
KISS and the toungue
madonna and the bra
christina and the dancers

We're all alright. No one has gyrated so hard they've caught alight. If you're children are that gullible and have such low self esteem that they only have popstars as inspiration then you are doing a poor job.

Ormirian · 11/12/2010 22:39

I've put on a few pounds and I still love my body. Because without it I'd be dead. It works and it's made 3 DC and it carries me about where I want to go. But regardless of how much I love it, I don't need to wobble it in people's faces to find validation.

walkinginaWUKTERwonderland · 11/12/2010 22:39

I find it depressing that some women define themselves so much by other peoples' opinions on their bodies and sexualities. Happy if they conform, full of self loathing if they don't.
Dismissive of every other quality they have.

I want more than that for my daughters.

Earplugs · 11/12/2010 22:40

Just completed my online complaint to Ofcom
