I was cycling down the road today in a nice area and a car stopped in front had to wait for me to pass in order to fully open his door. He was on the phone at the time and said "i gotta wait for da bitch to pass"
Coincidentally today I also heard a friend say in a jovial manner that she was going shopping with 'ma bitches' today. BTW she is a school teacher!

I know this is sometimes said in jest but I find it repugnant especially when women refer jokingly to other women as 'ma bitches'

YABU, bitch.

HAH! Jokes.

HecTheHallsWithBoughsOfHolly · 05/12/2010 18:10

Or you could take it as a compliment - independent, assertive woman who stands her ground and takes no shit is known as a 'bitch'. Because she doesn't curtsey and yes sir no sir let me suck your cock sir.

It's a way of twisting it back on them Grin

It's 'gangsta' culture, isn't it? bitches and hoes (hos? hoas?) objectification of women, pornification of society...

wanders off muttering...>

Hateful socially acceptable sexism. And if you protest you're 'miserable' etc. Just another way to demean women. Grr.

scoobytoo · 05/12/2010 18:12

'It's 'gangsta' culture, isn't it? bitches and hoes (hos? hoas?) objectification of women, pornification of society...

Exactly Hecthehalls....and it seems there are people out there so stupid as to use the phrase on their female friends!

Well I don't like it, but by the same token I don't like it when men are referred to as pricks or wankers.

A colleague of DH's recently said that her partner should put "ho's before bro's" or some such rubbish. DH bless him was genuinely puzzled as to what the hell she was talking about. We quite like being old fuddy-duddies like that Smile.

TooBlessed2spendxmasalone · 05/12/2010 18:14

i guess it depends,i am a christian so no one would dare call me that to my face, and i don't use it either, and when DH is with his friends, they do not swear around me either and i have never told them not to,and i am pleased:0

and that word is mostly used by teenagers anyway..

HecTheHallsWithBoughsOfHolly · 05/12/2010 18:14

Well yes. These are the same people who feel female empowerment is about being half naked and lapdancing for fully clothed men...

Hec wow,i heart your name..

HecTheHallsWithBoughsOfHolly · 05/12/2010 18:16

white - I have never ever heard a man casually refered to as a prick or wanker

hey ma prick, how you doing?

hey there wanker, nice shirt.

Yo prick, gimmee five...

No. Prick and wanker are used at/about men as an insult. Not instead of saying hello there my friend, what a fine day it is today, would you like to go for a drink...

TooBlessed2spendxmasalone · 05/12/2010 18:16

Reality i am talking about my friends, they just don't,because they think they are not respecting me,,have i offended you?

HecTheHallsWithBoughsOfHolly · 05/12/2010 18:16

Ta tooblessed - if I make it into the christmas namechange competition vote for me Grin

scoobytoo · 05/12/2010 18:17

Yes hecthehalls
I love that when lap dancers say they feel empowered because they can rip off men by taking their clothes off! Smile

When I was at college we all called each other 'bird'. Drove my feminist sociology teacher absolutely ape shit. Which of course is why we did it.

HecTheHallsWithBoughsOfHolly · 05/12/2010 18:18

Yes. Because a half naked woman writhing around in front of a fully clothed man who is calling the shots with his money has all the power in that little transaction, don't they.

Not to mention the total respect of the men who have come to see them.

TooBlessed2spendxmasalone · 05/12/2010 18:19
