I know this is really petty, but it REALLY gets on my goat. Where did this "we're pregnant" business come from?! I'm probably just being a really miserable git.

No rape is not about child birth.

You are compromising the women who have genuinely been raped be it date, familial, marital, statutory or whatever.

This nonsense about invasive actions during childbirth just isnt rape.

How many times? It isn't about perception! It is about the facts of the situation.

Fucksake Math you are being so obtuse on this.

mathanxiety · 02/12/2010 22:51

No, again, rape is about perception. There are no 'facts' -- there are only perceptions on both sides, or alleged perceptions, even if a 'real rape' case comes before a court of law. No facts, just a perpetrator's perception of consent and the victim's perception of the lack of consent. Not necessarily bruises, not necessarily weapons or bushes or dark alleys. Which is why the term birth rape is reasonable.

I'm going to bed. I have to work tomorrow and believe it or not, your ridiculous posts, while they cannot be left uncorrected will not keep me from my rl obligations.

Your posts are dangerous.

You are affecting the response that genuine rape victims get when they summon the courage to report a real rape.

It is society wide.

Victims of rape deserve a fair hearing.
Women who have experience an awful birth also deserve a fair hearing.

But without muddying the waters inbetween.

Oh ffs dittany.
All bloody night I have been trying to get through the notion that real rape in all its forms is hard enough to get a conviction on without throwing in a vague violation criticism.

I mean how many women have been sent away fom court humiliated for a second/third time after their rape was discounted.

This birth rape nonsense is just another detractor from the real situation!

Find another banner to fight under. The dilution is not helpful.

mathanxiety · 02/12/2010 23:14

It's not a dilution, any more than attempted murder is a dilution of murder or bag snatching is a dilution of bank robbery.

Yes it is.

It is awful for the women involved, I have not denied that.

But to get a conviction on rape is hard enought with out confusing the issue.

You are doing women a disservice.

And I bloody am going to bed now - all my emails are dealt with.

The further you contract the definition of rape the harder it is to get a conviction for the wide variety of situations where rape occurs.

You know as well as I do that the confusion over what constitutes rape means that less convictions are made.

The thin end of the wedge is what is needed.

This birth rape business just adds to the problem.
