To try and start a campaign to stop the uk release of 'A Serbian film'

I'm not suggesting anyone read the synopsis as that's disgusting enough. But I don't know how the government can allow this disgusting film to be released!

Surely this sort of film encourages paedophillia and violent rape.

There are more slaves alive now than there has been before at any time in the history of the world. The majority of this is sex trafficking.

I'm revolted that a film like this can be given even a censored release date (10th)

My post before you started saying I was going to see the film dittany:

'I have said many times it may be an absolutely abhorrent film. I do not know. Because I have not seen it. And do not want to judging from the content.'

but don't let that stop you.

pofakked · 28/11/2010 10:00

My FIRST post on the matter:

'That said, I have not seen the film, and I do not want to. I cannot therefore commit to an opinion on whether this film is just sick and cynical for sick and cynical's sake or if it actually does make a valid point. It sounds absolutely sickening I agree.'

Mumcentreplus · 28/11/2010 10:40

glad you didn't deregister pofakked...

pofakked · 28/11/2010 10:44

I will once more once this is sorted.

Mumcentreplus · 28/11/2010 10:56

thats a shame...

daftpunk · 28/11/2010 11:00

Don't let anyone force you off MN;

I'm finding some of the "feminists" on here increasing insular and hostile. ( not talking about anyone in particular )

pofakked · 28/11/2010 11:05

I have nothing against dittany's feminism. I agree with it totally. I have something against her trying to cheapen my character and putting words in my mouth.

daftpunk · 28/11/2010 11:14

But that's the problem - if you're not 100% in agreement you're not worthy, and whatever points you are raising are dismissed. There's also something insidious about a few of them.

Anyway - this is not my battle. ( hope you change your mind about leaving )

pofakked · 28/11/2010 11:20

I object to the term 'insidious' about 'a few' feminists dp. please don't try to align me with you.

daftpunk · 28/11/2010 11:29

Er?

My opinions and mine alone ( you are now guilty of putting words in my mouth )

LaurieFairyonthetreeEatsCake · 28/11/2010 11:38

Well I've forced myself to read the 'plot' on wikipedia and it sounds like the worst thing I've ever read.

I am not however concerned about the film as it has been cut appropriately and hopefully few people will see it.

I am far more concerned about 2 things - 'mainstream' films that are abhorrent and are show on British tv - 'Donkey Punch' for example. It is much worse to suddenly turn the tv over when sitting on the sofa in your own house and catch sight that the film is on.

And secondly that 'A Serbian Film' will be less shocking in 20 years and I will still be alive to live in that society - it may even be shown on terrestrial tv HmmSad

OOh and another thing.I'm glad they called it "A Serbian film"-it summerises the country's character nicely and will never be mistaken for something else

2shoesnightmarebeforechristmas · 28/11/2010 12:06

yabu
the film might be disgusting crap
but as I am often told you can't censor stuff just cos it offends you......
just don't go and see it.

knowittowell - I'm so sorry for what you went through.

I have also reported your post as it's an awful thing to call an entire peoples 'beasts'.

chibi · 28/11/2010 12:16

as far as not belonging in modern Europe, I think of the horrors that Europe has visited on the world, even in modern times, thus sort of shit fits in quite nicely I reckon

the film sounds revolting but is it really right to make out that the whole nation is responsible for making it, or needs to abjure it? Were they asked in a referendum to lend support to it's filming? Did they all chip in money to fund it?

CommanderDrool · 28/11/2010 12:19

I'm sure there are plenty of Serbs disgusted at this film.

Personally I can't see how the concept of the film could have any artistic merit. There are other ways of getting across the director's point without resorting to this rather cement-headed 'allegory'

He has chosen it for notoriety value and it's working. Am angry that he could think this film is in any way of artistic merit.

Lets try and remember that the people of belgrade were utterly bemused when NATo started bombing as they had no idea because of the state controlled media of what was actually happening out there in the country.

Just like the Americans can't all be categorised as being like they acted in Abu ghraib.

Perhaps if someone kicked him hard in the balls that would have some artistic merit too.

LaurieFairyonthetreeEatsCake · 28/11/2010 12:23

dittany - yes I can see the contradiction. However this is mumsnet and I don't want any Serbian people to think that we condone it.

I can't do anything about the film but I can report a post which is nasty and inflammatory about an entire people. There may be Serbian women on here remember.
