To try and start a campaign to stop the uk release of 'A Serbian film'

I'm not suggesting anyone read the synopsis as that's disgusting enough. But I don't know how the government can allow this disgusting film to be released!

Surely this sort of film encourages paedophillia and violent rape.

There are more slaves alive now than there has been before at any time in the history of the world. The majority of this is sex trafficking.

I'm revolted that a film like this can be given even a censored release date (10th)

I think you want to see the film because you'd like to watch rape-porn, ASerbianMan

SGB, the Equality Illusion by Kat Baynard cites evidence of the effect of porn on the brains of men who watch it a lot, compared to men who don't when they're shown images of women. It's very interesting reading.

That's really a revolting thing to say, ASerbianMan, I think if you were trying to make any argument/s FOR the film's release, you've just lost it (the argument).

Although, I can only agree with 'Shufflinggoldbrass' and all that she says about the topic.

marantha · 03/12/2010 14:31

Sorry, I meant StuffingGoldBrass.

I've only read the plot synopsis on wiki but to be honest I've been barely able to sleep since reading it and have even suffered with suicidal thoughts over the idea that this was based on real facts (some of the 'porn' scenes rather than the premise of the film) particularly over the newborn baby/mother. How can we live in a world were this is considered entertainment? What have I done by having 3 daughters? I know that horrific things happen (Dafur/Rwanda/Holocaust/etc/etc) but do we really need to have films that show the acts in all their 'glory' (even with actors playing the parts) as entertainment. Just to read a description should be enough to cover how vile it is that one human would perpetrate violence and degradation like that to another human, different ethnicity/religon/country/whatever not withstanding.

I really think that they should still show it in cinemas but with the ticket sellers making clear exactly the themes and scenes depicted. Anyone who still wants to see it should be taken off for a psyche eval to find out what the heck is wrong with them. How could anyone sit in a cinema scoffing popcorn whilst watching a newborn baby be raped? Are they human or just a rough approximation? Or is it ok because it's not people like 'us' these things are happening to?

NerdyFace · 03/12/2010 15:13

From what we know of the Baby scene, it's only "Suggested" it's not show on camera, that would be illegal!

It only had a limited cinema run in it's native serbia and some Eastern European countries, it wont be coming out in the cinema here as it is being released on blu-ray/dvd on Jan 3rd.

So very few people will actually know this film exsist and even fewer of them will actually watch it.

I would reckon sales of around 10-15k units in it's entire time on the shelf.

UNLESS it is banned, then it will recieve the "Kult" status films like Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Driller Killer, Zombie Holocaust, Guinea Pig: Flower of Blood recieved.

Then it will sell literally millions of copies and would probably spawn sequels where "Any" message this film has is lost in pursuit of something even more horrofic and violent.

The ONLY WAY to kill this film, is too ignore it, pretend it doesnt exsist. Banning it will make it seem exciting and exotic and forbidden.

Just keep repeating, "It's only a Movie.."

ChickensHaveNoMercyForTurkeys · 03/12/2010 15:16

Hang on, there is a cult horror called 'Guinea Pig'?! I'm not googling, but I am happy to leave this thread thinking of small squeaking rodents

NerdyFace · 03/12/2010 15:18

It's a Japanese horror film that Charlie Sheen was 100% convinced of being a Snuff film, the director was arrested but when it was proved it was fake, the sales SKYROCKETED

TruthSweet · 03/12/2010 15:19

I do realise it's just implied/mocked up. If it was really real or if they had used footage from the war then it would be banned and the filmmakes prosecuted (not for using the war footage unless they shot that too) BUT implied or not, smoke and mirrors or not it's a baby being raped just after being born as entertainment. I'd much prefer to watch films like Twilight for all it's stalker boyfriend elements to that.

noyoucant · 03/12/2010 15:22

Litchick at a guess the xx's in dittany's post refer to the something 'of a newborn baby'. And I think dittany's observation on the 'artistic integrity' of such a scene is spot on. I don't see how 'newborn porn' adds anything to anyone's enjoyment of art or cinema.

As for ASerbianMan's comment, having read the wikipedia synopsis of the film, there's nothing that would entice me to watch it, banning it or otherwise. My initial view was that it was just the product of some sick minds, made for the perverse pleasure of similarly minded people; and none of the discussion and quotes from the film makers and reviewers that I've read on here since has given me any real reason to change that opinion.

pofakked · 03/12/2010 16:20

It would be interesting to know if ASerbianMan is a namechanged regular.

noyoucan't I think Litchick knew what was being referred to.

Mumcentreplus · 03/12/2010 20:57

Well that glaringly obvious pofakked...but one wonders why she/he had to name-change...

pofakked · 03/12/2010 22:27

I think MN should out regulars who namechange for purely inflammatory reasons.
