To try and start a campaign to stop the uk release of 'A Serbian film'

I'm not suggesting anyone read the synopsis as that's disgusting enough. But I don't know how the government can allow this disgusting film to be released!

Surely this sort of film encourages paedophillia and violent rape.

There are more slaves alive now than there has been before at any time in the history of the world. The majority of this is sex trafficking.

I'm revolted that a film like this can be given even a censored release date (10th)

I don't agree that torture porn is the genre standard for horror now, it's a subgenre like any other. There have been a fair few made in the last few years but alongside other stuff too. It's shit though I'll give you that. Lazy filmmaking.

One plus about A Serbian Film is that it has effectively 'killed torture porn dead and fucked it's still warm corpse'! Because no-one will 'top' this now.

So sorry drfayray :(

I just read the synopsis on wikepedia and I have to say it is beyond revolting. Utterly, completely disgusting and vile. Why anyone would ever want to either make or see a film like that is beyond me. How low can people sinkFFS?

daisy5678 · 27/11/2010 21:45

Just reading the synopsis yesterday made me feel dirty and a little bit sick. I can't even imagine watching it. Look at the Wikipedia links to the reviews - nobody recommends seeing it!

spidersandglue · 27/11/2010 21:46

I support the A21 campaign and after watching the news last night for the first time in ages I was horrified to learn about the peodofile ring in Cornwall. To then hear about this film, (films are meant to be entertainment, am I right?) I don't get it? Surely this is wrong and I don't want 'that' kind of freedom of speech.

We do prevent freedom of speech in certain cases, for instance we don't allow incitement of racial hatred.

Don't feel bad about suggesting a campaign, OP.

Somebody else probably will, and I bet it will be on The Wright Stuff in papers etc.

I just wanted to explain why I didn't think it was a good idea, even though it is vile in ways that there aren't words to explain.

otchayaniye · 27/11/2010 21:53

I am a rape victim (as it happens it was when I lived in Eastern Europe) and I have no problem with this film. I wouldn't necessarily want to see it but I wouldn't seek to ban it.

Same hoo hah over Irreversible (a hard watch for me).

Nancy66 · 27/11/2010 21:54

I'd be interested to see how many cinemas would actually consider screening this.

Unrulysun · 27/11/2010 21:58

Awwwwwwww spidersandglue bless you. I'm a big girl, I'll be OK. Grin

Sounds like an absolute abomination of a film and whoever came up with it must be pretty fucking twisted but I wouldn't support a ban on it. I won't be going to see it but I don't see why others shouldn't be able to if they want.

TheCrackFox · 27/11/2010 22:05

I'm not going to read the synopsis as I am a complete wuss. I have never understood why people watch the Saw films.

I wouldn't ban it but would take a very dim view of anyone who went to see - I would add them to my tosser list.

spidersandglue · 27/11/2010 22:05

I can imagine in the places this film is shown 15 year olds jeering each other to go and see it to be 'cool' because 'its sick init'.

donnie · 27/11/2010 22:06

'hoo hah' rather belittles the content IMO, which according to the wikipedia synopsis includes the rape of newborn babies amongst other things. Are you really ok with this type of depiction otchayaniye? you think it is acceptable for this to be made widely available on celluloid?

I don't.

otchayaniye · 27/11/2010 22:07

Yes, I do think it's acceptable. Not a pleasant watch probably, but shouldn't be banned.

same hoo hah over Lolita when it was published, by thw way.

lillybloom · 27/11/2010 22:09

I agree it should be banned. I can't understand how anyone could watch something like this. I am beginning to despair about the world I am raising my children in.

donnie · 27/11/2010 22:09

I would be interested to know where people think the line should be drawn though; if we are all agreed - as I assume we are - that child pornography is unacceptable, then why is a film which depicts the rape of newborn babies ok for people to go and see? why is one not ok but the other somehow an expression of artistic expression?

Really. I want to know.

donnie · 27/11/2010 22:10

sorry, meant to say an expression of artistic freedom.

otchayaniye · 27/11/2010 22:10

i doesn't depict that rape

daisy5678 · 27/11/2010 22:12

Wikipedia says it does.

spidersandglue · 27/11/2010 22:13

Vince Vaughn is what 6'6"? Isla Fisher is what 5'?
Hardly comparable IMO

OP posts:
otchayaniye · 27/11/2010 22:14

No it doesn't show the rape of a newborn.

Unrulysun · 27/11/2010 22:15

StayFrosty I agree re the depiction of sexual abuse as normal. The one that gets me is 'The Boat that Rocked' where the girl is left in the dark thinking she is having sex with man A but man B is there instead. Hilarious Angry
