To want to buy a laminator?

I really want to buy a laminator. I've found these downloads for those black & White images for babies plus I read a good idea of using laminated paper as a sort of white board for writing shopping lists etc on in the kitchen.

Aibu to buy a laminator? What other cool things could I do with one?

I have one! We laminate photos and kids art work to use as placemars/keep clean and I know people who laminate weekly bus passes etc to keep them nice!

My ds used to make Id cards to play police etc and ask to laminate them!

I use mine to preserve special memory bits like the school christmas card thing, 1st navity program, 1 self written mother's day card.

Yes they might survive without it but will survive it with it.

When the kids get older, wipeable reward charts that are customised to exactly what you want. Pocket money charts

Thick paper or card works best for notice board type things though.

I covet laminators - YANBU. Oh the things I could laminate for school (without having to go to the reprographics/photocopyimg dept)!!

Would love one!!

test

comixminx · 25/11/2010 23:00

There are various thermally-printed items you mustn't laminate cos they'll just go black - am pretty sure this includes foetal scans by the way - but otherwise this is a great & fun thing to be able to do. You can laminate various small scraps of things for durability / display.

thenightsky · 25/11/2010 23:00

ooh... go for it... we got one on ebay which came with hundreds of plastic covers too. Bargin.

I laminate anything these days Grin

comixminx · 25/11/2010 23:01

Also they don't cost much nowadays. Go for it!

twirlymum · 25/11/2010 23:03

I love mine. DD (10) has started a bookmark business selling laminated ones for 5p at school.
I'm proud of her entrepreneurial skills Grin

AuntiePickleBottom · 25/11/2010 23:05

i also want one, to laminate special things

DandyDan · 25/11/2010 23:07

We've had one for the last ten years. Brilliant. Esp. for bookmarks-fundraising, placemats, posters, keepsakes as well as work stuff.

MumNWLondon · 25/11/2010 23:11

i love mine Smile

elsiepiddock · 25/11/2010 23:12

Got one ostensibly for ds1's project covers, but use it for all sorts.

Do photos to use as bookmarks. Dh always laminating recipes.

BrandyButterPie · 25/11/2010 23:14

i used to have one, till I killed it by trying to laminate wet pva glue. Don't do that, by the way.

Must get round to buying a new one!

Kewcumber · 25/11/2010 23:21

I aspire to a laminator. Are the dirt cheap ones any good?

LadyBlaBlah · 25/11/2010 23:23

If you get one, can I borrow it?

Lamnating has been preoccupying my thoughts recently

SkylineDrifter · 25/11/2010 23:28

Yes Kew they're fine. Mine cost about 20 quid about four or five years ago, and it does as good a job as any more expensive one - possibly just a bit slower than an office type one.

Sugarmuppet · 25/11/2010 23:28

Def don't laminate scans. Probably obvious.

TheNextMrsDepp · 25/11/2010 23:31

I've got one, it was cheap as chips, works brilliantly, but it's been in the loft for the past two years. I never found enough things to laminate!

EcoLady · 26/11/2010 00:10

Fab for making personalised placemats and/or bookmarks for parties!

Bumperlicious · 26/11/2010 09:01

I used to covet one as well so much so that I bought one on holiday in Cornwall with some birthday money(I know how to buy meaningful and beautiful sovenirs, don't I?).

18 months on, now that I have it, I don't think I have actually used it yet. Blush

But at least I have one.Smile

Niecie · 26/11/2010 09:09

And yes Bumperlicious it is posting!

notremotelyintofootie · 26/11/2010 09:20

Ooh I think I will get laminating for extra Xmas gifts this year!!

MrsMellowdrummer · 26/11/2010 09:25

This week I have been mostly laminating puffles.

I say buy one. You will never look back! Smile

HollyTwat · 26/11/2010 09:34

I inherited my mum's laminator and I love it. Have to hide it from ds or everything would be laminated!
Great for those ripped out recipes
