To want to buy a laminator?

I really want to buy a laminator. I've found these downloads for those black & White images for babies plus I read a good idea of using laminated paper as a sort of white board for writing shopping lists etc on in the kitchen.

Aibu to buy a laminator? What other cool things could I do with one?

3 year olds are laminator heaven!

Laminate:

a weekly calendar, so you can write on what they are doing and wipe clean

big letters to trace over

flashcards

signs to show them which draw is for socks or whatever

wipe clean reward charts

recipes

placemats

make a toy credit card for playing shops

laminate toy money for shops games

lists of allergies/health problems to give to carers/babysitters

make your own board games

laminate photos of friends and family

laminate autumn leaves, glitter, bits of sparkly stuff (don't laminate wet glue) to make window decorations

Christmas decorations

make little books

badges

:o

Brandy butter that list is pretty comprehensive!

DS1 made a mobile with laminated pics of his favourite characters and a coathanger.

Thank the lord he grew out of it. It looked shite.

Kewcumber · 26/11/2010 11:49

can you cut things out of laminate undamaged once they've been laminated or are they stuck?

Bluebell99 · 26/11/2010 11:55

I have a laminator that I have had for about 5 years and I last used it 5 years ago! I think I used it twice when the kids were at nursery. Can't remember how to use it now. I think the pouches are quite pricey too.

chitchatinsantasear · 26/11/2010 11:55

Laminate pictures of foods for her kitchen!

Laminate pictures to decorate the Christmas tree with

Make your own mobile

Definitely use for recipe cards - my cards get filthy!!!!

chitchatinsantasear · 26/11/2010 11:56

Kewcumber - laminating is for life!!!!

FindingMyMojo · 26/11/2010 12:19

PerpetuallyAnnoyedByHeadlice · 26/11/2010 12:22

WowOoo "Thank the lord he grew out of it. It looked shite." Grin

We've taken to giving away DS' "artwork" to relatives, to save the difficulty of explaining why we haven't put every piece on the wall...

BranchingOut · 26/11/2010 12:28

Anyone recommend a particular model?

Bumperlicious · 26/11/2010 12:40

Grannies love that sort of thing don't they. Might do a package of dd's stuff and send it to my mum this weekend, may even stick a bar of chocolate in it and something laminated. She will ring me up and cry probably. Easily pleased Grin

alwaysrubbishatnicknames · 26/11/2010 12:41

bumperlicious don't put the chocolate in the laminator though... Grin

LadyGlencoraPalliser · 26/11/2010 12:47

Whatever you do don't laminate glitter. I thought it would make such pretty place mats. I ended up with an ex-laminator.

TattyDevine · 26/11/2010 12:56

What goes in the laminate stays in the laminate!!!

Bumperlicious · 26/11/2010 17:44

I bought one

So, no glitter, no chocolate. Any other tips?

Numberfour · 26/11/2010 17:53

when I first bought one, my DH was scared to stand still in case I laminated him.

Please laugh at my pathetic joke. I am feeling like death warmed up today...................

mumcanihavearabbit · 26/11/2010 17:58

Oops glitter could be the reason the work laminator is not working properly!!

marriedandlookingforcake · 26/11/2010 18:00

I laminated glitter with no problems. We made sparkly butterflies, they were fab and the glitter didn't fall off all over the place like it usually does.

pozzled · 26/11/2010 18:03

Oooh I would love to have a laminator, people keep breaking the one at my school and now we aren't allowed to use it. Sad

SlightlyJaded · 26/11/2010 18:03

I heart my laminator. DD has one of those Hello Kitty laminators that you swipe across to make 'special cards' which she duly distributes at school. In the end I was so Envy of it that I bought a proper grown up one. Kewcumber mine was really cheap on ebay and it laminates everything.

In our house, if it moves, laminate it Grin

Bumperlicious · 26/11/2010 19:22

Anyone got any good flashcard ideas for a 3 year old? Not that i want to hot house dd, just want to use my laminator!

zeno · 26/11/2010 19:30

I am so happy to discover I'm not alone in happy-laminator land Grin. Thank-you all for making me feel more normal.

kanchan · 26/11/2010 20:13

I actually bought one from Maplin last Saturday, £20 and I've had such a fun week with it!

Te best thing I've done is to laminate a whole load of business cards, you know plumber, dentist, taxi....now I have A4 sheets with about 8 cards on it's great:)
