PatFig · 23/11/2010 15:48

DW will wear clothes a few times then put them in the wash so I take them out of the basket and if they are not dirty I will put them on the line and she is none the wiser
I Have enough to do around the house without washing clean clothes

amijee - my friend has 5 kids, so 7 of them in total and she washes their clothes as frequently as I was mine - she's be pretty pissed off at you deciding she's not as clean as she is, because she has more kids. She has a 9kg machine and it's on a lot - but they all look and smell lovely and clean not stale & minging!

Anyway - what did you do to stop yourself obsessively checking things?

Droves - I laughed, so don't be sorry! It was only a matter of time before someone mentioned it -they're only jealous they didn't get in first Grin (It's the only reason Blondes hangs out here eh!)

mumeeee · 24/11/2010 17:22

If they are in the washing basket wash them, They will have got smelly form the dirty washing that's in there

Longtalljosie · 24/11/2010 18:37

OP - Presumably you have no problem unscrunching your own socks?

Preparing the laundry for the machine is part of the job. Live with it.

Being a stay at home parent not the full-time watching telly and playing at forts you thought it was, eh?

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/11/2010 18:38

you know me so well =Chipping In Grin

amijee · 24/11/2010 19:23

chipping in - dump my boyfriend!!! Grin

ChippingIn · 24/11/2010 20:02

amijee - ah sounds like that was a good move then!!

classydiva · 24/11/2010 20:06

I for 17 years washed everything of mysons as soon as it came off.

Past few weeks, his shirts that he wears over t shirts, I refold and wash them after he has worn them the second time.

They arent touching his skin and they still smell fresh.

I would never remove washing that has been in the dirty basket though and re iron it. Jeeez that is mank.

Bluegrass · 24/11/2010 20:23

"Being a stay at home parent not the full-time watching telly and playing at forts you thought it was, eh?"

A nice patronising phrase for us to drag out each time a SAHM takes any shortcut with the household chores! Hope you are ironing all the pants and knickers OP?

PatFig · 24/11/2010 20:33

So what if I take short cuts. I want to make my life as easy and enjoyable as poss
You do not see me on here complaining about being treated as a skivy or DW not helping.
Being a sahperson can be as easy or hard as you make it

OP posts:
amijee · 24/11/2010 20:35

To all the SAHMs and SAHDs - I think you are doing the hardest job in the world.

I can't wait to go back to work Blush

scottishmummy · 24/11/2010 20:38

mince.sahp isnt hardest job in world.doesnt even come close

ProcessYellowC · 24/11/2010 22:20

Fascinating reading about everyone's washing habits. Not the sort of thing that gets brought up (with honesty) in RL.

To be honest, if your DW doesn't notice, then why the f*ck not? You're not both olfactorily challenged though? She could be getting funny looks and not knowing why.

ChippingIn · 24/11/2010 22:33

Process - if you thought this was fascinating then you will love this OR even this

ProcessYellowC · 24/11/2010 22:48

OH wow, but I neeeeeed to go to bed now...
Thank you ChippingIn

abr1de · 25/11/2010 08:59

I think some people have been gulled into thinking that the 'fresh' smell of a healthy human being is that of the chemicals piled into soap powders and liquids, and that you and your clothes are only clean if you smell of this stuff.

deaddei · 25/11/2010 09:16

Can't imagine not washing something after one wear, let alone 2.
Not only grubby but creased (shudders)
I do 3-4 loads a day (there are 4 of us) - lots of sports kit in our house.
If your dw is happy- fine. If not, wash it.

WriterofDreams · 25/11/2010 09:40

I saw an ad last night about a special laundry disinfectant from Vanish. I'm delighted to hear about this, because I think it's a tragedy that so many people die every year from clothes-related infections.

Oh wait, no one in the history of man has died from clothes-related infections.

Ok em well I'm sure it's a very useful way for a company to screw money out of scared parents household item.

2rebecca · 25/11/2010 09:51

If stuff is in the washing basket it gets washed. If bloke or I think someone is putting stuff in the washing basket that doesn't need to be here we'd discuss it with that person, not just fish it out. We both have a similar approach to washing though.
Socks, pants, tights, t shirts 1 day, bras 2-3 days (unless running bra when usually worn just once unless short run)shirts/ blouses 1-2 days (but get removed as soon as home from work and I'm part time so sometimes only worn for half a day at a time and we both hate ironing)
Jumpers/ cardigans/ trousers get washed whenever we feel they need it. Usually get worn at least 3 times. Skirts get worn about 5 times before washed (at least, if they're clean they just get re-ironed.)
The kids tend to get their clothes grubbier so get them washed more. Son has to be told to put stuff in wash, daughter has to be told to stop chucking stuff in wash after wearing it for 5 minutes.

2rebecca · 25/11/2010 09:53

You can reiron stuff without washing it daeddei. Washing stuff does wear it out.

ChippingIn · 25/11/2010 10:00

Of course you can re-iron stuff without washing it!!

...you can also jump out of a second floor window - doesn't mean it's a good idea!

comixminx · 25/11/2010 10:11

Gobsmacked at people washing their bras after one wear! I don't have anything like enough bras, have never before heard this as a requirement, and think it sounds quite wasteful of energy - no way!

OP, why not talk to your DW about this rather than just unilaterally deciding?!

Niecie · 25/11/2010 10:20

Washing bras after one wear is madness! How often are you buying new bras? They can only last about a week before they go all horrible.

I also think some of you are washing way to often. Underwear after only one wear is right obviously but everything else depends on how dirty it is. Does it smell, is it marked? Some of you must be a bit minging if you really have to wash everything after one wear.

Yes, things like skirts and trousers can be ironed without being washed to make them wearable again. Why not?!

Having said that, I agree with whoever said the OP was being a bit passive-aggressive over this. Talk to your wife - don't try and trick her, particularly as she is making things last 2 wears.

DW has just rumbled me. She works from home and has just come down to collect her cup of tea (which I made with my own fair hands)
and she would like to point out that the clothes in question are the smart ones she wears when she goes into the offices (Leeds or London) They get crumpled and a bit smelly on the train dont you know

That is me told,I wont be getting a shag on Friday night now

sigh

niecie you are contradicting yourself

Washing bras after one wear is madness! How often are you buying new bras? They can only last about a week before they go all horrible.

then you say

Underwear after only one wear is right obviously but everything else depends on how dirty it is.

so does that mean you wear same underwear again without washing Grin
