PatFig · 23/11/2010 15:48

DW will wear clothes a few times then put them in the wash so I take them out of the basket and if they are not dirty I will put them on the line and she is none the wiser
I Have enough to do around the house without washing clean clothes

How many times do you do the hanging up trick before you eventually wash them? You must be keeping an eye on everything she wears otherwise some stuff will have been worn more than twice before being washed?

I wish my DH took some responsibility for the laundry. He's a very intelligent with a 1st Class degree in engineering but cant seem to figure out the washing machine controls. Hmm

MissBeehiving · 23/11/2010 18:02

You love it, AF, you know you do.

bumperella · 23/11/2010 18:16

.... big wooly jumpers/cardigans/etc (that you'd wear something underneath) I wouldn't consider washing after 2 wears (unless I spilled /dribbled.... which has been known). I don't think it's unreasonable to wear them a few more times between washes. Ditto things that you've not worn all day - e.g. if you get changed when come home from work then I wouldn't consider washing the stuff I wore in the evenings after 2 wears.
but...don't see how it makes your life easier to hang them on the line without washing them, you'd need to be giving them a good sniff test first (what if they're bundled up in the laundry basket with worn-all-day socks for a while?)... and keep an eye on what your DW wears when. Seems easier and more satisfying to just wash the stuff and have an internal moan session instead.

BeenBeta · 23/11/2010 18:22

WeeScotsLass -"You may get two days or more out of your underwear - but we don't!"

Only 2 days? Surely everyone has a 7 day regime? Frontways Monday, Backways Tuesday, Insideout Front Wednesday, Insideout Back Tursday, Lucky Dip Friday, Pulling Pair Saturday and Commando Sunday. Wink

fruitful - until you pointed it out I was reading it as '2 YEARS' as well. Grin

WeeScotsLass · 23/11/2010 18:43

"beenbeta" - I love it!

PatFig · 24/11/2010 08:34

and another thing that pisses me off is when clothes are thrown into the wash turned inside out especially tights with the knickers still attached.

OP posts:
2blessed2bstressed · 24/11/2010 08:49

Make it more difficult to just hang them out does it?

abr1de · 24/11/2010 08:54

You don't have to wash shirts every time. I live and work in a cold house. I am slim and don't perspire much. I wear q camisole under shirts. I shower every day and have no commute. What exactly am I washing away?

1234ThumbScrew · 24/11/2010 08:55

Well I agree about the tights, my ds does that with his pants and jeans.

However the rest of it you are wrong.

tryingtoleave · 24/11/2010 08:55

Bras are the only thing I don't wash after every wear. I am fairly messy though.

Both you and your dw must have a poor sense of smell or she would have realised what you were doing and you would realise how disgusting it is.

Merrylegs · 24/11/2010 09:06

"DH will wear clothes a few times then put them in the wash so I take them out of the basket and if they are not dirty I will put them on the line and he is none the wiser

See? See? If this OP was the other way around you would all be saying "Serves him right the lazy fecker. why are you washing his clothes anyway?" etc etc

working9while5 · 24/11/2010 09:12

Am I missing something? If clothes smell, then the dw will notice. If not, then.. well.. are they really all that dirty?

Surely you can't define how clean or dirty is by how long it's been worn for but by.. erm.. how clean or dirty it is? Underwear/socks/hosiery/vest tops next to the skin aside, if you're someone who showers very regularly and doesn't sweat a lot, a cardigan worn over underwear, a body top and a shirt shouldn't really pong after even two wears spaced apart unless you were being very active or in a warm environment. On the other hand, if you work somewhere with a tropical temperature, walk to work then rush about all day, you might very well reek by lunchtime even if wearing very light, freshly laundered clothes?

IamKatiePrice · 24/11/2010 09:16

AnyFucker how did you make your words go all bold and slanty and stuff like that? I have trouble with my nails when I type - I've press double hard, with my thumb to make it bold, but it anit working

PatFig · 24/11/2010 09:42

IWouldNotCouldNotWithAGoat

i dn't want to say, but i only wear once, then chuck in Tesco recyle bin when I go past. At least I'm being eco freindly.

OnlyWantsOne · 24/11/2010 09:47

Gillian McKeith is a genuine doctor... isnt she?

Biscuit

OP what you wash is up to you. If your DW was inclined or concerned she could talk to you about it / do it herself. Which is what DP and I do. I do the washing... but he's not reliant on me to provide it all done.

However, she is putting it in the washing basket... which means she might genuinely want to wear it the next time all clean and fresh.

I do agree though you lot... if this was a woman writing this... we'd all be saying YADNBU dirty lazy man etc.

If she was worried she'd say some thing :)

AnyFucker · 24/11/2010 10:31

IamKatiePrice to make your words bold, italics etc look at the writing to the right of the text box saying "emphasis"...it tells you how to do it there

The smileys are there too

noeyedear · 24/11/2010 10:49

I must admit I do this a bit with my DH because I suspected he was putting everything in the wash because he couldn't be arsed to put them away (mainly jeans I had just washed and T shirts he had put on after coming home from work to sit on the sofa for 2 hours then take off- I dont't put them away though- he wears then the next night or couple!!). Now I'm wondering if I'm a bit skanky, but I do a lot of laundry, and it amazes me just how much of it is DH's!

IamKatiePrice · 24/11/2010 10:55

OK AnyFucker Confused
hahahahaha

nickeldonkeyonadustyroad · 24/11/2010 10:58

abride - in your circumstnaces, you can go 2 wears before washing blouses.

I wash blouses after one wash, because they're close to my armpits and they do smell at the end of the day.

Tortoiseonthehalfshell · 24/11/2010 11:03

I admit that every now and then I pick something up off the floor, think 'can't remember if I've worn that' (since one of my toddler's favourite games is Fling Everything Out Of The Laundry Basket, closely followed by the family favourite Open The Parent's Drawers And Pull Out The Clothes) and just chuck it in the laundry basket to be on the safe side.

But, perhaps the OP could give us a rundown on what, exactly, ze has to do that's enough without washing clothes?

GetOrfMoiLand · 24/11/2010 11:07

I wash everything after one wear apart from, strangely enoughm bras.

If my DP took clothes out of the laundry basket and hung them back up again i would kill 'im

Moral of the story: do your own laundry.

WriterofDreams · 24/11/2010 11:15

Out of interest, how many times a week do you guys put on a wash? DH and I do our washing separately and we each wash clothes at most once a week.

I wear deodorant and don't sweat much so I don't see the point in washing clothes after one wear. Surely that creates a huge amount of washing, is very un-ecofriendly and ends up being very expensive in terms of electricity?

WriterofDreams · 24/11/2010 11:18

BTW it sounds from my last post as if I only change my clothes once a week, which isn't what I meant. The washing machine goes on once a week.

I change knickers and socks every day, bra every week, and everything else only when it gets dirty. That's not to say I wear the same clothes every day, I just don't wash them until I think it's needed, which at the moment is quite often as I seem to drop all my food on myself.

olderandwider · 24/11/2010 11:23

I put on 3-4 washes a week for DH,DS and me. when DD is home from uni it is perhaps 4 times.

Bedding and towels take up 1-2, the rest is clothes.

My view is, we all shower every day, no one has a manual job, no one suffers from BO, and we are genuinely fairly clean eaters Grin. So, apart from undies and socks etc, most items will be worn more than once (shirts eg), often a lot more eg jeans jumpers skirt.

Funnily enough I think outer garments need most cleaning - sitting on public transport and walking on grimy streets certainly make things grubby (just think how a white coat would look after a week or so on public transport).

So I am quite fierce about jackets and coats being cleaned regularly.
