PatFig · 23/11/2010 15:48

DW will wear clothes a few times then put them in the wash so I take them out of the basket and if they are not dirty I will put them on the line and she is none the wiser
I Have enough to do around the house without washing clean clothes

olderandwider · 24/11/2010 11:24

genuinely? generally!

PerpetuallyAnnoyedByHeadlice · 24/11/2010 11:29

i would never ever catch up with the laundry if I washed as much as some of you - 5 of us in the house and the machine does 1 or 2 loads a day - getting it all dry in the winter is a nightmare. the kids will get 2 sets of uniform and 2 sets of Pjs a week, only undies and socks are changed every day. jeans can last a week if you are not sweaty! T shirts one day.

Have we started on sheets and towels yet? I'll get in first - towels - bath towels, once in about 10 days, hand and tea towels every day

bedding once a fortnight, unles anyones been very hot/sweaty/ill etc

i trust all you obsesive washers use a 30degree wash and eco friendly powders?

WriterofDreams · 24/11/2010 11:31

I hate laundry. I suppose once baby arrives at Christmas my current quite light load will triple. Perhaps I can engineer it to be DH's job?

What always shocked me when I used to share houses with other adults was when people used to wash 5 things in the washing machine. To me that is a horrendous waste of water and electricity and there's no way I'd put on such a small load unless it was an emergency of some kind. Am I mad on this front?

WriterofDreams · 24/11/2010 11:33

Ugh Perpetually 1 or 2 loads a day? I wanted three kids but now I'm starting to change my mind...

mloo · 24/11/2010 11:48

I can't believe you're asking this on the Internet OP.
Then again, I can't believe I can be arsed to reply Confused + Blush.

If neither of your noses are offended then I don't see a problem, although it may well be that lots of people around you and your wife have a different opinion. I have head many MNetters claim that their lives are near constant horrific experiences drowning in other people's body odour.

ChippingIn · 24/11/2010 11:48

Perpetually - you know when someone has been around MN for a while Grin

Some of you obviously missed the recent bra washing (or not) thread!! It was very funny and a real eye opener! [I still cannot believe how many people don't wash a bra after each wear Shock].

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/11/2010 11:53

if you are being serious, then yes you could get 2 days wear maybe out of a jumper/jeans

but nothing else

clean underwear everyday for blondes and even sometimes twice Grin

GetOrfMoiLand · 24/11/2010 11:53

I put on a couple or three loads of washing on every day - mind you one of these is taken up by sheets.

I wish I had a laundry fairy.

Yes to 30 degree econony wash, washing powder is whatever is on special that week.

For some reason I am a scummer about bras, only wash them once every few weeks.

GetOrfMoiLand · 24/11/2010 11:55

Clean underwear every day for blondes? Grin

What are the rules for brunettes and readheads then?

JuicyLips · 24/11/2010 12:00

2 or 3 loads a day here. but with baby and one v messy four year old that is probably not surprising.

Nagoo · 24/11/2010 12:03

How sweaty are you people? Grin

This thread must link to the 'how hot is your house' thread, and the fact that I'm sitting here with blue fingers.

I have the problem of dinner down self/ child snot. So that's when clothes go in the wash.

I'm lucky to get two goes out of a top though.

I don't understand why the OP puts them on the line though? that is the bit I find really odd.

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/11/2010 12:15

op puts on line as knows if dw found out he would get a bollocking Grin

GetOrfMoiLand may just be a blonde thing Grin my friend who is a red head wears her bra for 3 days

'blondes shudders'

i honestly couldnt do that - even if i only had 2 bras, i would have to wash it out every day and wear other clean one

abr1de · 24/11/2010 12:17

The breeze really does freshen up clothes like coats and jackets. Sometimes towels that aren't dirty but are a little damp can be kept going a bit longer by an hour in the fresh air.

WriterofDreams · 24/11/2010 12:21

I often wonder how my grandmother coped. She had 9 kids and no washing machine. I'm sure my mum and her sisters and brothers must have made do with fairly stinky clothes.

droves · 24/11/2010 12:35

eeeeeuuuuwwwwwwggghh .

OP you are bogin.

-WASH- -THE- -FECKING- -CLOTHES- !

droves · 24/11/2010 12:37

If a man cant be trusted to wash the laundry , he cant be trusted to wash himself either IMO.

No woman likes knobcheese.

AnyFucker · 24/11/2010 13:14

how did we get from discussing slightly niffy t-shirts to knobcheese

< eyes cheese'n'ham toastie with distaste >

WriterofDreams · 24/11/2010 13:19

The official term is smegma

SalFresco · 24/11/2010 13:23

I haven't read the whole thread (was eating lunch at my desk but now been put off my fish pie with cheesy crust topping...)

Has the OP explained why he hangs the clothes on the line? Surely he might as well wash them?!

amijee · 24/11/2010 13:24

God - are we living in a society of OCD sufferers?

Get a grip - imagine what a household of 5, 6 or even 11 would be doing? They would not be washing things daily!!

It's so far from being non eco it's untrue.

As with body image and self esteem, I think perceived smells and dirt are all in the mind and have little bearing on reality.

Unless you are in the gym and achieving 80% of your heart rate for an hour you do not need to wash things so often!!!

SalFresco · 24/11/2010 13:27

amijee that's quite rude. OCD is not just a synonym for liking things to be clean.

amijee · 24/11/2010 13:30

oh my god - can't you make any comment on here without having some PC shit rammed down your throat? I am fully aware of what OCD represents - it's a figure of speech!

( for what it's worth, I used to be an obsessive checker myself)

cantmummyhaveabreak · 24/11/2010 13:41

writerofdreams- We have 3DC, 5 of us in total. I normally wash once a day. DD2 is still only small and will normally have 2 changes of clothes a day between food mess/nappy leak etc then PJ's every day. Older 2 are at school and have 2 uniforms a week normally, sometimes the odd extra item or 2... then a pair of PJ's will last 2 nights unless they get dirty. DH wears a work uniform for 2 days and i wear a clean outfit every day normally.... I do bedding fortnightly, curtains every few months, 5 towels a week... but we do have a large load washing machine :) Godsend for lots of washing!! Grin

I do wear things like cardi's and jumpers for a few days if wearing a t-shirt underneath, but otherwise i get too hot and sweaty doing school runs and chasing the toddler round and would never feel happy wearing something tight fitting twice without washing.

droves · 24/11/2010 14:20

sorry for knobcheese comment .... was trying (and failing ) to be funny.

whats wrong with having ocd ? .

Wink
Blondeshavemorefun · 24/11/2010 14:30

pmsl - only on mn can we get to clean/dirty washing to knob cheese :)
