where one child is more or less sitting under another, very low to the ground.
saw one today and poor child had no view , it was just looking at the cover of the child up stairs iynwim
why would you put a child there, and has anyone ever forgotton and put shopping on top of the child?

I love them. My friend has one and we live in a very exposed and windy area. When we walk our dogs together her youngest DC always looks so cosy and warm in the underneath bit and out of the wind too. He is always asleep, so I doubt he cares what the view is like.

bumpsnowjustplump · 23/11/2010 15:37

I have one and my two fight about who goes in the lower seat... I love it and the kids love it.

putthekettleon · 23/11/2010 15:39

2shoes, it just seemed from your post you didn't have experience of trying to get around with 2 young kids, or know anyone with a phil and teds... I stand corrected!

Each to their own in my view, if you don't like them then fine, I just didn't like the insinuation of 'why would you put a child there?' !! What else would I put there??

larus · 23/11/2010 15:39

pixie I didn't mean that the only way to get out and about is to have a p&t - that would be ridiculous for me to suggest. Apologies if my comment was a bit flip. I just find it a bit odd that so many people seem to hate the buggy so much and seem to be so judgemental of people who use them!

blatherskite you are right. And my p&t won't fold down fully with the back seat on either - guess no buggy is perfect.

bumpsnowjustplump · 23/11/2010 15:40

it also folds really easy and I have no problem folding it on the bus if i need to. I just take the doubles kit off and put it on the seat with ds still straped into it and fold the main buggy bit.

bumpsnowjustplump · 23/11/2010 15:41

just unclip the back seat it takes a second if that..

GoingToBonnieDoon · 23/11/2010 15:45

OP seriously, has anyone ever forgotton and put shopping on top of the child? WTF??? No, I tend to remember that I have 2DC!!!

People (finances allowing) get the pushchair that best suits them, their house and their DC - for me that is a Phil & Teds.

If you don't like them fine, don't buy one but don't for a minute think you have to feel sorry for my 'poor' child in the back seat.

2shoes · 23/11/2010 16:07

good grief i never realised people were so precious about a buggy.
I havn't accused anyone of child abuse/ murder or drugs
just said AIBU going by this thread it is about 50/50

I don't think people are being precious about a buggy - as you say, its just a buggy. Speaking for myself, I am just a little surprised at the type of comments made about people who use the p&t.

Really couldn't care less what buggy people use - its up to them - but do object to suggestions that I am a crap parent because of my choice in buggy.

sethstarkaddersmum · 23/11/2010 16:18

I don't know about the P&T lovers being precious - I'm a bit surprised how vehement some of the anti-P&T people are. It's just a buggy fgs.... I get it when people have a particular item and it is a pain to fold or they get their fingers trapped and they end up hating it vehemently, but why would anyone hate someone else's buggy? Confused

bruffin · 23/11/2010 16:25

I just think the P&T just feels so wrong, it's hard to explain. I did have a 2 year gap and managed quite happily with a side -by- side, regularly crossing the full length of london by public transport with it,so I know what it's like to transport a baby and a toddler around without a car.

anastaisia · 23/11/2010 16:40

If the 'crap parent' comment has been taken from my post (scanned the thread and don't see it before there) then please read it again as it was clearly not about what buggy people use.

TheLimeFairy · 23/11/2010 16:42

I used to think that the P&Ts looked uncomfortable for the bottom child and had an irrational dislike of them and judged people for having them! I think this was in part because I couldn't afford one and even the second hand were expensive Grin.

I used a side by side with DC1 and 2 and DC 2 and 3 but over the summer I saw a P&Ts at a carboot (very battered but v cheap!) and thought I would give it a go. I now think they are brilliant. It has actually given me the freedom to get into town on the bus and do things with the DCs. If I had my time again I would have saved like mad when pg with DC1 and had one from the off.

trixie123 · 23/11/2010 16:54

am being given one a P&T for £50 when DC 2 is born next year so am pleased I can try it out for not too much cash and change to a side by side if i don't like it. Hav to say the Los I have seen in them always look fine!

2shoes · 23/11/2010 16:59

how do you fold them up on the bus if you have to though.
(curious)

TheLimeFairy · 23/11/2010 17:03

I take the bottom seat off and fold the rest and put it in the luggage bit. It folds to only slightly bigger than a single umbrella fold and can be done just as easily, whereas I found the side by side difficult to fold and very heavy to lift into the luggage bit while holding a baby in other hand. P&Ts is a lot easier to handle IMO.

CakeandRoses · 23/11/2010 17:04

I saw a baby get hit in the head whilst going over a v high curb when in the bottom of a P&T type one. Shock

I was pg with dc2 at the time and in the market for a new buggy and after seeing that decided that a side-by-side was the right option!

we got a Baby jogger mini city double and it fits thru every shop/cafe door i've come across (bar one particularly narrow one) and it is best pram/buggy for ease of steering that i've ever used, i can literally do a 360 degree turn with one hand.

A friend with two DCs the same age as mine has a P&T and regrets getting it as her baby cries whenever she's in it.

2shoes · 23/11/2010 17:07

goes to show no 2 dc's or people are the same.

SpringHeeledJack · 23/11/2010 17:13

I have to admit I hate these things, 2shoes

I carted my twins round everywhere in a double buggy (I don't drive- and we're dead urban)- it was one of those out and about ones. Got it in just about everywhere- except the paper shop

it was sweet because they were always able to fight constantly interact with one another

Wink
SpringHeeledJack · 23/11/2010 17:14

...have to say though that, where we are, all the buses have easy access for a wide buggy. Different when you're out of town, though, iirc

whoneedssleepanyway · 23/11/2010 17:16

good grief i never realised people were so precious about a buggy

you are the one questioning people's choice of buggy....

as with most things there are pros and cons to most buggies.

lanismum · 23/11/2010 18:02

My friend has a phil and teds, its lovely to push, but her youngest used to always get pissed on by her brother Grin

I have a side by side double (mountain buggy) and have had a tandem, the tandem was the biggest pile of crap ever, uncomfortable for the front child, and a nightmare to get up steps with a heavy toddler in the front, side by side is easier to push but a pain with doors and pesky humans/cars/dogs/ that get in its way,(its known as the tank in our house) I dont think you can have it all with a double, they are all a pain.

OmniaParatus · 23/11/2010 18:47

I suppose everyone has their ideal buggy. I had a heavy tandem and it was a nightmare to push up a hill. I was put off a side by side as I once saw a toddler smash a heavy plastic toy down on his baby sister's head, she was bleeding and screaming Sad so I wanted my two to be a little separate just in case DS was jealous.

Hate them if you will, but voice your opinion at your peril Grin I was once complimented by a woman on how clever my P&T looked, and her mother said 'it's cruel if you ask me'. I responded by saying that no-one had asked her and she was quite offended Grin.

AppleHEAD · 23/11/2010 19:00

My kids have all loved mine. They prefer being in the lower one.... that is meant to be where the younger one goes but my older dd always insists she wants to be in there. Side by side ones are too wide and because I have a bad back I found the tandem one agony.
