A good job there aren't many men on MN

I think men would be shocked at the level of resentment leveled at them on MN. Almost a seething mass of contempt at times.

I'm a man, been on here for years. And I was surprised by it.

AIBU to think it's a good job there aren't many men on here, or would more men posting help men and women understand each other better?

I'm afraid I've had to disengage from this debate (BC sorry to have left you!) - reason being that I was curious as to why the analogy between racism and sexism wasn't getting us anywhere and discovered a thread started by DP urging people to vote BNP! Obviously more seasoned posters will be aware of this.

In May I was doorstepped by the BNP. I went to the door with my 4 month old (dual heritage asian-british) DS in my arms and when I explained why I wouldn't ever support the BNP, he actually spat in my baby's face. To give him a small benefit of the doubt, he may have been aiming at me but it landed on my baby's mouth. And while I support the freedom of speech it doesn't extend to assaulting babies in their own homes on the basis of their parentage.

Am sure not all BNP supporters would support what he did, but it shook me up and I think that it was a particularly vile and repulsive thing to do to a new mother and a baby in their own home. I don't think you can actually debate with people like that, whether it's a sneering roll of the eyes or spitting it denotes in ability to be intellectually open to opposing views to your own. I don't wish to open my son or I up to treatment like that either in RL or online. I am only posting this explanation because I saw DP referring to previous posters supporting BC's PoV as lightweights (I was making a cardboard car with my son for most of today and doing to swimming lessons with him - activities which I would assume DP to support as opposed to spending my time posting on MN ignoring him) and I didn't want my withdrawal from the thread to be registered as some form of victory from DP's PoV. If it's a victory, it's certainly a Pyrrhic one. I can only pity people (more so their DC) who hold the kind of views that support the BNP and I grew up in 1980s Dagenham so I know a few. Will be namechanging after this post - too much personal information.

Belledejure that is bloody awful.

Yeah I know about DP's politics - couldn't give a monkeys however.

I have really enjoyed your posts - give us a wink if you do namechange. Would never out anybody or be indiscreet.

Scottishmummy are you telling us off again - I've been running my business as per usual today - it doesn't take much time to bang out a few obvious answers to oft repeated arguments.

Same old, same old and all that...

Say what you like about the Tories or Jehovah's Witnesses, at least they don't actually assault you in your own home. Shock

classydiva · 24/11/2010 20:02

Women fail to realise that sometimes it is a consequence of their abuse, verbal and emotional that gets a guy not being so nice.

Women think things but never say them.

Women bitch about shit that a man don't give a fuck about.

Women think that men should do this do that, whereas in reality some women should be competent enough to do it themselves.

I am a woman by the way, but I know my faults.

Some women don't and think it's all the man that causes the grief, when in reality they oughta be taking a look in the mirror.

CommanderDrool · 24/11/2010 20:05

Yes Daftpunk was a vociferous BNP supporter in the run up to the election.

And if I remember right, Scottishmummy did a fantastic job shooting down all her nonsensical claims.

CommanderDrool · 24/11/2010 20:09

Oh I've been neglecting my scrubbing but have a low IQ so was on this thread instead. Wink

Are we all bored of this thread now?

'Women bitch about shit that a man don't give a fuck about.'

There's an interesting take on the fact that people have different perspectives. (Apart altogether from the use of the gender specific very 'to bitch')

Made me wonder if there are maybe some things some men seem to obsess about that are not all that interesting to a lot of women -- and what is the equivalent of 'to bitch' when applied to speech by men about shit they care about.

mathanxiety · 24/11/2010 20:11

verb, not 'very'

scottishmummy · 24/11/2010 20:19

beachcomber,i made an observation if you perceive that as a slight so be it

Janos · 24/11/2010 20:20

math, isn't it obvious?

Men talk crap about junk.

That's that one sorted .

(sorry, couldn't resist).

scottishmummy · 24/11/2010 20:23

you know what as much as some of you malign hearing the supposed same ole same ole i could say the same thing!

but isnt that nature of discursive forum.vociferous contention.may not alter anyone else pov but most certainly a lively discussion is always worth a punt

StaceySolomonismyHeroine · 24/11/2010 20:23

scottishmummy · 24/11/2010 20:25
