they look nice, but no doubt a billion calories and sickening

Do it. They have to be tasted to be believed. They are, however, the most sickly substance on earth and you won't need another one for about a decade :)

saorachd · 21/11/2010 23:00

Ask for a Mars Bar supper. Grin

amatteroflifeanddeath · 21/11/2010 23:00

I had one once. I was disappointed. What you should do is melt a marsbar and stir in marshmallows then spoon the warm mixture into your mouth. Maarshmallows are fat free so its ok Wink.

Can any Glaswegian MNers confirm the existence of the 'stonner?'- saw it in a chippie there about ten years ago and nobody down here believes me. It was a battered sausage wrapped in doner kebab meat then dipped in batter again and deep fried. Again.

I didn't have one. I was too taken with the chips in batter.

separated · 21/11/2010 23:09

I didn't know that I was hungry until I read this thread. Yummy!!

saorachd · 21/11/2010 23:09

My arteries furred up just reading that tether.

LadyOfTheFlowers · 21/11/2010 23:10

I had one once.

Saw it on the menu, had 60 odd pence in my pocket, asked him to add it to my order - thought 'what the hell' as I was curious.

Was lovely. :o

TmiEdward · 21/11/2010 23:11

In Shetland over the summer, we were in a chippy in Lerwick which served battered and deep fried pizza.

And battered "seafood" sticks too.

saorachd · 21/11/2010 23:12

You can also get deep fried Snickers suppers in 'select' chippies. Grin

AuntiePickleBottom · 21/11/2010 23:13

deep frying a sausage wrapped in doner kebab meat and battered.

I can't say that I've ever heard of a stonner,Tether. I'm sure it exists somewhere but to the best of my knowledge it's not a regular menu item here.

PurplePillow · 21/11/2010 23:14

In my local chip shop they will batter and fry any chocolate bar you ask for Hmm

Never tried it and really don't want to Grin

There's a fish and chip shop near us with deep fried mars bar as number 1 on their kids menu. I've never had one but wouldn't mind trying one, one day, when I'm feeling brave!

MrsShrekTheThird · 21/11/2010 23:15

niiiice.

LetThereBeRock · 21/11/2010 23:16

I'm not familiar with chips in batter either. That sounds hideous, admittedly I don't tend to frequent chip shops all that often.

AuntiePickleBottom · 21/11/2010 23:17

mrsshrekthethird...don't knock it until you tried it

backwardpossom · 21/11/2010 23:17

A "stonner" has a completely different meaning to me!!! Blush

I had a deep fried, battered pizza supper for my dinner last night. Bloody fantastic it was, but I could practically hear my arteries screaming "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooo"!

tethersend · 21/11/2010 23:21

They were more potato fritters really... divine, although a little bit deadly.

I remember there being a sign in the chippie saying 'only one stonner supper per customer per week'. Which must mean that there were some people who wanted one more than once a week. Which is almost impressive.

Can't get your links to work, auntie...

tethersend · 21/11/2010 23:21

I think that inspired its name, backward Wink

AuntiePickleBottom · 21/11/2010 23:23

sorry i am not that good at links...i'll try once more

That's disgusting.

BonniePrinceBilly · 21/11/2010 23:28

I've had a deep fried mars bar on bondi beach. I though it would be revolting but it was actually fecking lovely!

Bellagio · 21/11/2010 23:29

Tethersend- psml at the Stonner and the battered chips!
Backwardspossom - lol yes the name means that to me too!

I have never had a deep fried mars but bet it would be great with ice cream, nom nom.

As far as I know, a deep fried battered pizza is known as a "scrunchie"

I love and miss Scottish chippies, battered King Rib, White pudding and haggis suppers.......
Oh and no differentiation between varieties of fish, just "Fish"
Love it.

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 21/11/2010 23:29

The DS's persuaded me to buy them deep fried marsbars in Edinburgh over the summer after seeing a chippy that advertised loud and bold that they sold them.

So I did - didn't buy one for myself, but had a bite- and it was actually rather yummy - DS's LOVED theirs
