In thinking that Wagner wasn't all wrong about Cheryl?

When he said she is a council estate girl who got lucky?

Nothing wrong with coming from a council estate, I lived on one myself for most of my childhood. But she didn't get where she is now on talent or charisma so old Vargener hit the nail on the head with that one, oy finks.

Thats what the paper claims he said. He said he was misquoted and said what he said last night. Doubt any of us will ever know what was said with any certainty.

SantasMooningArse · 21/11/2010 15:31

IF he said it though

Which he denies

So we can't know one way or the other can we?

And tbh if it is true then I suggest that whilst he should nto ahve said it maybe she could have avoided it by being civil to him in the first place? After all, if the quote was true then it's likely to be a whole truth, no?

Though after having a DH work in the more populist end of the press market for five eyars, I doubt anything they say tbh

wubblybubbly · 21/11/2010 15:37

He quite possibly was misquoted. I'm sure he isn't shagging Mary either, or giving Matt a black eye or even grabbing hold of make up artists.

It all drums up interest in the show though.

Remotew · 21/11/2010 15:48

I heard that there is a campaign to vote for Wagner in a similar way that rage against the machine beat Joe to the Christmas no. 1, to sabotage the show.

c0rns1lk · 21/11/2010 16:47

A teacher would deffo lose their career for punching someone no doubt.

Lovecat · 21/11/2010 17:01

I work in a bank and if I was convicted of ANYTHING I would be sacked. A young guy in our department was done for drink driving (no-one hurt, just randomly stopped after a night out) and he was out the door.

For me it's not so much whether she should have been punished more/differently/for all eternity, it's the nature of her crime.

Assault. For thinking someone was being arsey to her. Ignoring the racial element of it (which I understand was not proven), it doesn't make her very likeable, does it? And don't go saying she was young, get over it, haven't we all done silly things when we were young. Not assault, the vast majority of us haven't.

She comes across as being very entitled and I think she was actually quite nasty to Wagner last night (she really seems to hate him, not sure why). Good on him for not taking it lying down.

tillywee · 21/11/2010 19:12

She was out of order to be honest...it's so tacky to do that on live tv, yet she wants us not to believe the things written about her acts...but she'll believe he said that quick enough.

Tbh if she doesn't even have the decency to be civil and speak to the bloke then she should expect backlash...I know I wouldn't be impressed to be treated like that

SalFresco · 21/11/2010 19:25

I'm from a council estate. Cheryl Cole would not have stood out as some radiant singing beauty, if you look at how she looked back then. There are actually lots of pretty girls living in council estates. She entered a talent competition, got lucky, and has been stage managed ever since. And the stuff from years ago clearly bothers her, I know the reason she's still Cheryl Cole is branding, recognition, etc, but it can't help that "Cheryl Tweedy" will always be the racist girl who thumped someone in a toilet and never apologised.

Someone asked should people in the public eye not be allowed to make mistakes; I honestly think that people will forgive genuinely talented stars most things - but we all know CHeryl Cole is were she is today because of the team around her, not becuase she is incredibly gifted and has a talent which would have shone through regardless.

SalFresco · 21/11/2010 19:25

where

scottishmummy · 21/11/2010 19:30

shes a big haired batterer riding her luck

Mammie81 · 21/11/2010 19:45

I think the way she accepted his compliments after tells quite a lot.

Wagner : You are beautiful, manners of a princess blah blah blah (even though she punches people in toilets/berates contestants in a show shes judging live on TV)
Cheryl : smug smile Thankyou

What shes thinking there is, yes. Yes I am. And you are a smelly old man.

Thats why I hate her. And I love Wagner because hes making a mockery of a show that makes a mockery of music.

cupcakesandbunting · 21/11/2010 19:47

"I hope all the feminists among you feel truly proud. When would a man be ripped apart for his appearance and style? When would a man be ripped apart for having a stylist? Yet because she is a woman she is expected to have innate style and beauty, and anything else is cheating"

No-one w1s ripping her apart for having a stylist. I would have a dozen stylists if I had her cash. I think that people were pointing out that she isn't the doyenne of fashion that she is made out to be. FWIW, she looks gorge'. Her looks have nothing to do with it. She is just a mean person, IMO. But that is just my opinion. I am well aware that she is the new Lady Di or summat.

Is it true that Matt tried to fight Wagner?! And they had to separate them because Wagner would deck him? Of course Wagner would deck him he used to own a tiger FFS!

Oh and Simon gets berated for his style all the time, AFAIK.

OP posts:
violethill · 21/11/2010 19:51

I think the whole Thing will give wagner even more of a boost! I agree that the irony is great- the talentless out of tune singer is making a joke out of the whole show

scottishmummy · 21/11/2010 19:52

simon gets piss taken out his oxter high trousers, botox and fake tan.rightly so

the big haired batterer trades on her looks, shes a speak your weight schleb.so if you market self as a commodity eg hair, figure etc then expect to be judged on your appearance

Mammie81 · 21/11/2010 19:55

She wouldnt have gotten nearly as far on X Factor if not for being Simons pet either.

Note : She'll only shout at Louis when Simon has already.

cupcakesandbunting · 21/11/2010 19:55

ScottishMummy knows the score Grin

He's right, she massively got lucky. I know i few people in the media who know some key people. She's got the best PR team there is behind her thanks to SC. She's a brand, she's a bit thick and not much talent at all. The "marriage" to AC was dubious but it's served it's purpose, she's got rid of the tweedy tag.

However I've got nothing against her for all those things. The reason i don't like her (and this is an aside from the thuggish attack, i've done silly things when I was younger didn't involve rough horrible fighting, that's not just a "blip" IMO and I'm usually V forgiving) is because she's quite an unpleasant person. And despite her PR teams sterling efforts the cracks are beginning to show.

Superfly · 21/11/2010 22:02

Have to say I have never bought into this "Nations Sweetheart" crud either.
She looks good - but then a million girls who could have people to fix their teeth, put in hair extensions, choose their clothes and do their make up could look just as good, if not better.

She has got by on the smallest amount of talent, has got PR that no doubt set up many of her network and connections and she is able to turn on the tears to make good TV. Although the racism charge was not upheld, she was still convicted of assault. Not classy. The way she brought up a matter intended to embarrass someone when it could have been done off screen - Not classy.

Whether or not she comes from a council estate or not is irrelevant - I lived on one myself until the age of 23. I haven't become a talentless pop star, but neither have I turned into a convicted criminal. The fact is she showed how petty and immature she really must be if she used a vehicle of an entertainment show to garner votes for herself, or to try to turn public support against a rank outsider. Didn't work though did it?

UnquietDad · 21/11/2010 23:16

You just won't get a bunch of blokes bitching about Chezza like this.

I'm just saying :)

sixpercenttruejedi · 21/11/2010 23:40

because we don't live in a society where men are given opportunitites because those in charge fancy them.
just saying... Hmm

Wandaaa · 22/11/2010 00:01

Anyone else think the phonecall on the Xtra factor allowing Cheryl to explain herself was stage managed?

cupcakesandbunting · 22/11/2010 09:47

That's where you're wrong, UQD. My DH has an almost pathological hatred of Chezza. He thinks that she looks like Michael Jackson, the odd man.

OP posts:
UnquietDad · 22/11/2010 10:16

Oh well, I stand corrected... it's not been my experience!

cupcakesandbunting · 22/11/2010 10:18

In fact, all of DH's mates are rude about her too. I think they all watch Strictly for Widdcombe.
