BNP on facebook......should be responsible for the photos on their page

Friend of mine on FB has requested that I report the BNP's facebook page for the most vile language and content. Which I have, I implore everyone to do the same. The photos are disgusting, pictures of dead or dying Africans/Afro-Caribbeans with captions like Funny looking N*er underneath.

It's shocking, you may be able to report it without looking at the photos.

'Clearly when they are not reigned in the ideology of the BNP is pure nasty fucking racist hatred.'

Most definitely. I saw a programme about the BNP where the camera crew were asked to leave just for some 'entertainment' evening they were having because they wanted to be able to 'speak freely' Hmm

theevildead2 · 17/11/2010 10:55

FWIW I'm not British so maybe I get a bit confused sometimes but surely if you aren't racist but just want to slow down the amount of imimigrants (not for racist reasons) but because of the economy then the tory party would be the one to vote for?

theevildead2 · 17/11/2010 10:58

exactly electra the main polititcol parties would never have to do that (although they probably do have turn off the cameras when it comes to fundraising Grin)

electra · 17/11/2010 11:06

They are not really a political party - they are a bunch of thugs who've tried (rather unsuccessfully) to pass themselves off as reasonable.

I was completely lost for words when I watched 'BNP wives' - never before have I had the misfortune to hear the views of such thick-skulled, bitter neanderthals in my life. Sad And they talk about themselves as if they are some kind of supreme elite. Oh the irony.....

mayorquimby · 17/11/2010 11:13

The supporters are most certainly real. But the implication was that the BNP were somehow involved in an official capacity with racist photos and comments on their fb and for failing to remove them, which is clearly not the case, and people were wondering how Daftpunk would defend the parties actions.
As you say there is now no reason for her to be called out as she or the BNP can not be held responsible for the private views of their supporters or have to justify some independently racist scum who may happen to support the party.

FWIW I think the majority of the BNP are racist morons but the fact is that people held this FB page up as evidence of the party itself openly endorsing racism and calling for her to defend the party on such a matter when it had nothing to do with the party.

"Actually MQ I'd still want to know what she thinks, the public persona of the BNP is that they are not racist, and always deny that their followers are.

Clearly when they are not reigned in the ideology of the BNP is pure nasty fucking racist hatred."

But the website has nothing to do with the BNP in any official capacity, it is a group of racists who happen to support the party, some of whom may or may not have official ties to the party but who as far as we can tell are not acting in any capacity on behalf of the party.
Your logic in using this as proof of the BNP's racist ideology when not reigned in is akin to me finding you 1,000 racists world-wide who claim to be Labour/tory/republican/whatever party you support and then asking you to defend your party based on the fact that some of your supporters are open racists.
In fact by your logic one might even argue this as proof that the BNP are not a racist party as it is the official structure of the BNP that is reigning in the racist hate speech and ideology of these moronic racists.

There's plenty of things you can berate the BNP on and use as proof of their racism, but finding a group of racists who support the party and post shit on FB is not a valid one.
That's my only point. As someone said earlier when you look to slam them over something which has nothing to do with them and is not their fault (like the QT debacle or the representative who got in a fight with the 3 lads at the elections) all you do is solidify and validate their seige mentality of "everyone being against us/it's a liberal agenda" that they spew to validate themselves.
They give us enough reasons and ammunition for which to pillor them, which means we don't have to invent reasons to criticise them and when we do it just allows them to call into question the valid criticisms in the eyes of their members or potential supporters.
So if something like this is put at their doorstep or put in the papers. At the next election when they are accussed of being racist/bigotted Nick Griffin will defend this to potential supporters 1 on 1 with rhetoric along the lines of
"We are not a racist party. That is simply how the liberal media wish to paint us with slurs and lies. If you take for example the Facebook debaicle last year when it was reported that the BNP page was awash with racist comments and photos, it of course was not. That website was a fake and could have been set up by anyone anywhere in the world, including a canny journalist looking for a story, and had nothing to do with the party. The official page had no such racist statements and would never tolerate any."

mayorquimby · 17/11/2010 11:17

"I was completely lost for words when I watched 'BNP wives' - never before have I had the misfortune to hear the views of such thick-skulled, bitter neanderthals in my life."

That was depressing. Another great documentary was the episode of "Re: Brand" (Russel Brands old documentary series) where he hung out with the then leader of The Young BNP.
Absolutely brilliant work by Brand, even though he's a heroin addict at the time, who in a way befriends the guy but is constantly trying to save him from himself and show him how bigotted and disgusting his views are.
All of his documentaries are on youtube if anyone fancies a look, they're well worth watching.

electra · 17/11/2010 11:32

Really, do you have a link? Would be interested to see that.

mayorquimby · 17/11/2010 11:39

There you go.
It's lovingly called "Re:Brand. Nazi Boy"
There's some swearing and obviously (as it involves the BNP) some racist opinions/language just in case anyone is tempted to click on it in work.

electra · 17/11/2010 11:44

Thanks MQ. I hope most supporters of the BNP do so because they are misguided and traumatised by things in their life so that they project their misplaced anger onto a destructive cause. I get that impression from some of them.

electra · 17/11/2010 11:45

What I mean is, I don't believe anyone is born evil.

TheFeministParent · 17/11/2010 11:47

I emailed the BNP telling them that only them reporting it as fraudulent would get it removed quickly, they responded with their actual facebook page link. I replied saying that unless it was removed within 48 hours I would assume that they had no issue with the content and had not reported it.

mayorquimby · 17/11/2010 11:49

Well your free to make that assumption but inaction does not = consent or validation.

You don't know anything about their silence on the issue though. As far as we know they were only alerted to it by TFP's e-mail sent only a short while ago. They may well be taking action as we speak.
As for not caring wether the real BNP are behind it or not, that just seems a bizarre stance when looking to condemn them for something.
If I was told that person x had committed a crime and I found out later that it had been person Y, I'd feel fairly ridiculous stating " I don't care if it was X or not, they should still be held responsible." Especially when the evidence in this is fairly clear that it was in no way the BNP.

TheFeministParent · 17/11/2010 12:05

Mayor...if someone set up a facebook page/profile claiming to be you and presented a violently racist profile would you leave it?

Interesting, after watching that film what is always evident is how BNP supporters are completely unable to defend their position - they just slink off like MC did, or become abusive!

mayorquimby · 17/11/2010 12:37

So they are taking action?
Now do you care if it's the real BNP or not BTP?Is their silence on this issue (something which we never had any evidence of) still support in your book?

Also well done TFP for reporting it and getting something done.

"watching that film what is always evident is how BNP supporters are completely unable to defend their position - they just slink off like MC did, or become abusive!"

Without fail. They will either become abusive and accuse you of twisting their words or having made your mind up from the start (quite a good thing when the decision I've made is not to be a racist prick) or they will slink off with cliches like "I'm entitled to my opinion/ whatever happened to freedom of speech" as though those two priciples gave immunity from having to justify your opinions.

begonyabampot · 17/11/2010 12:38

I don't think it should be reported or removed - why hide what many of their supporters really think and stand for. its a good advertisement for the BNP.

electra · 17/11/2010 12:47

It should be removed because it incites racial hatred. Sadly a lot of people have racist nastiness bubbling just below the surface - I was shocked and angered by people I know joining racist groups on facebook because of the poppy burning.

OK thanks a lot. I too find this page disgusting and does not represent the views of the British National Party. I have now reported it and hopefully facebook will have it deleted.

this is the reply.

Why hasn't FB removed it already. Like they do breastfeeding photos. Is BFing more offensive than this? The mind boggles....
