elc have removed the pig from the happy land farm set as it may offend some religious groups!- i.e muslim and jewish. so am i wrong to suggest that maybe we should not have farm sets because it could offend veggies, the cows could offend hindus and maybe the sheep could offend the welsh???

this is bloody stupid... our town renamed christmas as fucking winterval!!!!!

Sorry. irony detector has overloaded!

AnnieLobeseder · 16/11/2010 15:34

As a Jewish vegetarian, plastic pigs are the only kind I can eat!

Albansanne · 16/11/2010 15:42

This sounds crazy, you can't have a farm set without the sheep. They'll be going for a fortune on ebay if this goes ahead, as people try and complete their sets!

CatIsSleepy · 16/11/2010 15:45

if anyone needs an ELC pig to go with their farm they can have ours....for a price, obviously Grin

chaya5738 · 16/11/2010 15:52

Exactly, ALbansanne. This is all part of the Muslim/Jewish conspiracy. I bet they have got together in their secret little room to make this plot so they can make a fortune on ebay and then take over the world. I bet those Muslim/Jewish scoundrels are buying up all the discarded pigs right now

MilaMae · 16/11/2010 15:53

So they withdraw pigs but keep the pink globes Hmm.

I saw that secret Muslim Jew meeting actually. It was in the cafe in Debenhams in town. They were all moaning that the scones were a bit dry that day.

I bet they try to ban scones next. If that happens, I tell you, I'm leaving the country.

AbsofCroissant · 16/11/2010 16:50

Well, for my part, I will never ban scones. I love them. I may, however, ban putting cream first then jam on scones as that is just WRONG.

saffy85 · 16/11/2010 17:09

I read this too! Really silly. Mind you if I hear/read one more utterence of "political correctness gorrrrn mad!" I may never log on to the internet again!

BTW have never ever heard any child, nursery teacher or indeed read any book of nursery rhymes with the words "baa baa green/multicoloured/ethnic minority sheep...." in my entire life and strongly believe thid is infact an urban myth.

Praline · 16/11/2010 17:12

I already was pissed at ELC as on my sons light up globe, it had Tibet as part of China, I ranted & ranted to head office, got an apolgy but nothing changed.

kingbeat23 · 16/11/2010 17:26

I do Riven

Cream - jam is BARKING.
Jam - cream is the right way.

Are you treating the cream as if it's butter or something? I just don't get it.

ELC Statement

ELC is a global brand, which means we need to be aware of the full range of customer expectations and cultural differences. The decision to remove the pig from our Goosefeather Farm set was taken in response to customer feedback... in some parts of the world.

We recognise that pigs are familiar farm animals ? especially for our UK customers. Taking on board all the customer feedback, we have decided to reinstate the pig and to no longer sell the set in those international markets where it might create an issue. Any customers who have bought Goosefeather Farm in the last few months will be able to order a pig free of charge to complete their set via our website in the coming weeks.

GrimmaTheNome · 16/11/2010 17:47

This may be why I prefer cheese scones. So much less scope for argument.

Except I used to love it on BA transatlantic flights when they'd give you a little pot of nice crusty clotted cream and you could tell who was an American by the looks of bafflement and/or horror as they tried to work out what to do with it.Grin

hatwoman · 16/11/2010 17:47

don't know this thread ended up debating jam and cream (haven't read it all). and I assume this is more in connection with scones than pigs or sheep, but of course it's jam then cream. cream is not butter. it's something you put on top of stuff. you don't pour cream in your bowl and then top it with strawberries do you? or maybe you do. strange people.

kingbeat23 · 16/11/2010 17:47

How do you know that you have enough jam on and doesn't it make the cream slide off though?

Well, thank goodness they'll be sending out free pigs.

now back to the issue at hand - jam is sticky, so the cream doesn't slide off (stupid argument, I know, but still). I want to know how you can have enough jam if you're trying to put it on top of cream. And surely the cream gets all messy and spread about when you're trying to put the jam on top.

My work colleague went to a place for afternoon tea and they had chocolate chip scones. Now that's what I'm talking about Grin

Desiderata · 16/11/2010 17:50

I want to know how they got the pigs out without disturbing the packaging.

And I want to know where the pigs went ..
