elc have removed the pig from the happy land farm set as it may offend some religious groups!- i.e muslim and jewish. so am i wrong to suggest that maybe we should not have farm sets because it could offend veggies, the cows could offend hindus and maybe the sheep could offend the welsh???

this is bloody stupid... our town renamed christmas as fucking winterval!!!!!

YABU and you sound ridiculous, sorry. And your town did not rename christmas 'winterval'.

chaya5738 · 16/11/2010 11:37

Heh, am still laughing about the OP stressing about how to explain the absence of the pig from her farm set after a visit to a farm that has pigs.

We had this last week. Went to visit Blenheim Palace and then had to explain to DD why our two-bedroom flat wasn't as the same as Blenheim Palace. She didn't understand and I had no way to explain it. She was so confused! So we complained to the landlord of our flat that they need to include 100 acres of garden and 30 more bedrooms. And then we wrote to the Daily Mail. And now I am posting about it on Mumsnet because it was all so distressing.

Poor DD.

Firawla · 16/11/2010 11:39

if its true that is ridiculous but i would be suprised if it is really true
muslims and jews are not offended by toy pigs in farm playsets, because a toy plastic pig does not = eating a bacon sandwich Confused
i am muslim and absolutely fine for my dc to play with a farm including the pigs, to watch peppa pig, or anything else toy with a pig. i just wouldnt give them it to eat.
if they have removed it that is more offensive to me tbh, as they are telling us what they think offends us whereas in reality it does not. same with xmas labelled wintermas or whatever else was mentioned. we dont ask people to cancel xmas, we just dont celebrate it ourself. i dont know of anyone who would be asking others to cancel xmas. personally i actually like seeing the xmas tree lights etc up in town as it is pretty. i do just tell my dc "oh look its winter lights" as opposed to xmas lights but dont actually want the whole thing renamed for everyone

rdmommy · 16/11/2010 11:39

chaya you're not a very nice person are you told that alot?

Just looked at the Daily mail site and already there are people bashing Muslims for this saying 'this is Britain, if they don't like it they should leave'.

I read another comment from someone in Israel saying that the Muslims were implicating Jews in the complaints in order to take the heat of themselves.

Well done Daily Mail for causing more division!! How do these people sleep at night? Any excuse to enrage middle class white Britains at the expense of minorities. How come Phil Wollas is in court over incitement to cause racial tension and the Daily Mail isn't?

chaya5738 · 16/11/2010 11:45

Heh heh, surprisingly, I am actually a nice person since I don't go around spreading absolute BS about Muslims and Jews in order to get people to express outrage against them.

chaya5738 · 16/11/2010 11:46

Well said, capricorn76! This actually makes me very angry - completely irresponsible journalism.

AnnieLobeseder · 16/11/2010 11:50

Seriously? An international hate incident is breaking out over ELC pigs? Hmm

Any MN Muslims want to come over here and fight with me about it? Grin

walkingonair · 16/11/2010 11:53

I purchased the happyland farm recently and the pig was in the set. V.pleased as DD loves making pig noises! Smile

ccpccp · 16/11/2010 11:59

Hmm

They took the pigs out of childrens toys.

mayorquimby · 16/11/2010 11:59

Can't do the veggie option. Potatoes will offend the Irish.

chaya5738 · 16/11/2010 12:01

I wa referring to the Daily Mail's targeting of Muslims in order to stir up outrage against them. Yet again.

AnnieLobeseder · 16/11/2010 12:03

Just been on the Daily Wail site and it's VERY disturbing how many people are blaming Muslins for something that had nothing to do with them!!

NewTeacher · 16/11/2010 12:10

cows dont OFFEND hindu's!!!! We treat them with respect!

I want to know when all the Muslims and Jews got together in a secret meeting and decided to make British children's lives miserable by taking the pig out of the happy farm toy. Because I am offended that I wasn't invited.

I honestly think that, if it occurred, this was a straight up commercial decision and to place any sort of blame on Muslims and Jews is irresponsible. If there is a market for pig toys then some other company will make a set with them in.

capricorn76 · 16/11/2010 12:38

Its very easy for the papers to claim the Muslims and Jews complained because they don't have to produce any actual evidence like names etc. They know many of the British public will just take it at face value that the 'effnicks' are once again trying to ruin the British way of life. There will now be loads of people running to buy the set now who never cared before because they believe they are standing up for Britain and Christians.

The only people at fault are ELC (not Muslime and Jews) and as a mother to be, they've just lost a customer because they are clearly shit stirring for publicity or are dumb.

Wigglesrock, what if the pigs were Jehovah's witnesses? I lived with a girl from Norn Iron once who was and had often been asked: "ah, but are you a Protestant or a Catholic Jehovah's Witness?"

I want a green humanist pig, goddamn you all!

seeker · 16/11/2010 12:51

Don't worry everyone. It didn't happen.

AIBU to be annoyed that nobody invited me to this meeting. Were there kosher cookies? Did you discuss the plans for Easter ?

Meh, so they removed pigs. Then they put them back. So what? Is this worth all the press coverage? Is there not anything more worthwhile that can be covered in the news?
