mumbybumby · 07/11/2010 21:14

Agreed. Very annoying.

MarineIguana · 07/11/2010 21:14

Do you mean saying it to their DC - or between adults in a twee "I'm so quirky" way?

If latter then YANBU

moonminmama · 07/11/2010 21:14

TheBolter · 07/11/2010 21:15

Agreed. Just say 'three days until xyz.' My children understand it, why can't yours?

ChippingIn · 07/11/2010 21:15

Wow - someone needs an early night.

hairytriangle · 07/11/2010 21:15

No sleep(s) til Brooklyn by the Beastie Boys? Grin

Ewe · 07/11/2010 21:15

YABU.

Don't take my tweet comments here! This is worse than a thread about a thread Wink

catholicatheist · 07/11/2010 21:15

Yes with you there, its totally sad..grow up you are not five. Robbie Williams (who I cant stand) did a song and in it I heard a lyric 'baby steps and two more sleeps'...I have always thought he was lyrically challenged but that made me cringe!

Wigeon · 07/11/2010 21:16

Can't bear it. Actually makes me twitch. That and adults saying (or facebooking!) "nom nom nom".

Jaquelinehyde · 07/11/2010 21:20

Trent FM used to have it on daily throughout December sung along to the tune of one man went to mow.

10 more sleeps to go, 10 more sleeps 'till Santa, 10 more sleeps 'till the big fat fella ...........I can't remember the rest.

Not sure if they still do as I haven't lived oop north for 5 years now.

The children love it stop being such whinging spoil sports!

monkeyfacegrace · 07/11/2010 21:22

...comes down your chimney, brings you presents and drinks your beer, 10 more sleeps till Santa

takes a bow

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 07/11/2010 21:24

YANBU - sets my teeth on edge.

SuePurblybilt · 07/11/2010 21:25

Bloody hell, what a thing to get upset about.
Unless an adult says it to an adult, that could be annoying I suppose.

girliefriend · 07/11/2010 21:27

It is annoying, YANBU!

Ewe · 07/11/2010 21:28

It was me who said it, on Twitter...

"ah shit... I'm gonna be in New York. YAY. New York. Three sleeps."

I am VERY excited. I think it's a nice phrase to convey excitement.

So there.

mimps · 07/11/2010 21:30

ack, chill out OP

it's FUN!

look

only 46 sleeps til Nom Nom Nom Nom chrimbo dinner

BarbieLovesKen · 07/11/2010 21:34

Yeah, YABU.

My dd has no concept of time. Anything in the past, even if it was last year is "yesterday" and everything in the future is "tomorrow" she doesnt understand how long a day is etc..

She does however, understand "how many sleeps", if we say we're doing something/ going somewhere etc.. she'll just ask how many sleeps. Most adults in our family use it now because of her.

Dont think its a big deal tbh, if it helps a small child understand time who really cares?

LunarRose · 07/11/2010 21:35

YABU

Three sleeps makes so much more sense than three days, I mean do you count today or not? what if it's late in the evening does it still count, what if you are going at midday does that count as a different day or not?

sleeps are nice and simple, or perhaps I am too literal Grin
