as someone else mentioned above "days" don't make sense.

if I'm talking about something happening on Wednesday morning is it or 2 days? It can't be one day - as that would be tomorrow. 2 days make it's sound like the end of Wednesday - so I'd miss it.

2 sleeps.........it is

justonemorethen · 07/11/2010 22:27

What's "sleeps" got to do with it? It's a "night" surely isn't it? They're children not idiots.

Doesn't work with OAP's or students either.

Like fucks but bottles of wine would work for my mates (has the advantage of making the countdown fun in it's own right)

loonies · 07/11/2010 23:56

Oh do lighten up tis only a bit of fun. What is xyz though? Is it some new-age festival I have not heard of? I look forward to celebrating xyz in just three sleeps time, night, night.

Bettymoody · 08/11/2010 09:10

They're children not idiots.

i totally agree
do they not get hte concept of night and day

Oops I said this at nursery this morning - 2 more sleeps until baby due Blush

By the way due you know that there's only 46 more sleeps until Santa :o

Will measure things in 'shags' from now on!

PollyFilla · 08/11/2010 09:25

Totally agree
If you're not ten you shouldn't be using this expression imo

mehgalegs · 08/11/2010 14:12

The Song is Robbie Williams - You Know Me.

Summink "about baby steps and three more sleeps."

proudfoot · 08/11/2010 15:19

I don't particularly object to it when used to or by children but I agree that it is very cringeworthy and twee when used among adults. Also agree with the poster who mentioned "nom nom nom" as that is even worse, and "holibobs" instead of "holidays" makes me cringe a bit too.

Hulababy · 08/11/2010 15:22

I count sleeps and get ups.

Of ourse DD understands x number of days. Of course I understand x nuber of days. But who cares - well, OP obviously, but you know what I mean. It's harmless.

I am sure the OP says other thinsg that drives me mad.

RatherBe · 08/11/2010 17:27

It is twee when used amongst adults but not as bad as adults using 'school nights' to describe an evening followed by a working day. You only have 'school nights' if you are at school!

traceybath · 08/11/2010 17:31

YANBU

I hate adults saying it to each other - and I don't say it to my children either.

CornflowerB · 08/11/2010 17:32

You have school nights if you have to get children out to school in the morning!

bettymoody · 08/11/2010 17:33

yes i hate SHCOOL NIGHTS
fecking grow up

That Robbie Williams lyric makes me cringe too. My dds have never had any trouble understanding the concept of "two days until..." although for some reason dd2 (5) still has a little trouble with the concept of "tomorrow" and will ask "Is that the day after this day"?

Surely any child who is too young to understand the concept of a day will still be having at least one nap, leaving a lot of room for confusion unless you say "two more big sleeps until.."
