I don't understand the key thing, but if he lost it, YADNBU to expect him to come home and find it.
No energy for the house is not acceptable in the autumn.
I am Angry on your behalf.

Get the HV to find it. It would be great to see one actually make themselves useful.

ForMashGetSmash · 04/11/2010 09:04

Break the door down or take it off the hinges!

ASecretLemonadeDrinker · 04/11/2010 09:07

why do you have a lock on your electricity cupboard?

i am assuming you are on a pay as you go meter and need to get in the cupboard to top it up?

can you get a screwdriver and force the lock?

ASecretLemonadeDrinker · 04/11/2010 09:16

I just want a shower, a cup of tea and some breakfast :(

tell the hv she needs to help you

might be the only help she actually is (unless you have a fab hv like I did years ago)

ForMashGetSmash · 04/11/2010 09:17

Smash the bugger....get something heavy...or kick it in! Unlless it's Oak or something that wont be hard....is DH not very "handy" then?

ASecretLemonadeDrinker · 04/11/2010 09:17

Ooh yes...the HV might be all practical and know what to do! Do you not have a camping stove for coffee? Or a kind neighbour who will boil you a kettle?

ASecretLemonadeDrinker · 04/11/2010 09:18

Key hole.

ForMashGetSmash · 04/11/2010 09:35

Get an axe! Or a fire extinguisher...smsh the door in.

Mouseybrown · 04/11/2010 09:41

If you live in a newish house the neighbours key may well fit your door- they're all the same, assuming it's one of those meter cupboard doors not a Yale lock or something

ASecretLemonadeDrinker · 04/11/2010 09:42

It's close to meter and gas pipe... Only inch or so gap. Don't want to smash those :) don't know how dh can sit in his warm office, tea on tap and not feel bad :(

AlpinePony · 04/11/2010 09:45

Go to the drive-thru - v good coffee, no reason to get out of the car and it'll all be worth it for the look on the hv's face when she clocks the McDonalds wrappers and your pyjamas at 10am! Grin

onadifferentplanettoday · 04/11/2010 09:50

don't all those meter cupboards have same key so that meter readers can open them? Ask a neighbour

TrillianAstra · 04/11/2010 09:51

Let the HV in and make her be useful - say that you have been ill and the electricity is gone.

DH "What can I do?" does he mean "I can do nothing sort it out yourself" or does he mean "what can I do?"

TrillianAstra · 04/11/2010 09:52

If I asked someone "What can I do?" I would mean that they should give me some guidance or instructions in ways that I might be able to help.

memoo · 04/11/2010 09:54

Op, phone your electricity supplier. I have been in this situation and they will send an engineer out with new key or he will credit your meter with a few pounds to last until they can get a new key ot you. They definately cannot leave you without power even if its because you have lost your key

LoopyLoops · 04/11/2010 09:55

Neighbour's key is a great idea, is this a possibility?

memoo · 04/11/2010 09:55

Sorry, totally misread your post, thought the key was for the meter

ASecretLemonadeDrinker · 04/11/2010 09:59

DDH saying "what can I do" was not an offer of help.

OP posts:
bonfireblue · 04/11/2010 10:02

Try the neighbours first, failing that call your energy supplier, failing that call a locksmith and send the bill to DH.

ASecretLemonadeDrinker · 04/11/2010 10:10

Dh on his way home, he's really angry
