to be getting fed up with people who want to change MN to be more like other sites?

So far in the last few months there have been a number of requests for changes that would make mn more like other sites and less like mn

This is mn:
No tickers
No signing off
no like/dislike button etc

If you make all the changes that have been suggested then mn wouldnt be mn. it would lose part of the ruggardness about it. it would become threads of like/dislike but no real discussion.

eg AIBU: like 21 dislike 12. less effort needed to post, less likely that people in a hurry would bother to make the effort.

PLease few free to enjoy the site but try no to change the mn esscence. simple to the point no fancy ability to connect with thousands of witty smart women and the brave men folk amongst us. Who are more then capable of making their feelings know without tweeness and all singing dancing buttons.

But MN changes all the time, towers looks at suggestions and takes on some and not others - things like topics, local, option for classic and so on have all been suggestions from posters.

I agree that tickers etc are awful and I, personally, would hate them but that doesn't mean people can't suggest it!

facebook only atm as far as I can see. I hope it stays there.

I think want grates a bit is a lot of the people making the suggestion when they are fairly new to the site and havent had chance to full adjust and appreciate the beautiful simplicity of the site.

Some changes make sense. Changing the site just to make it more like other sites doesnt.

MN is pretty unusual in its appearence, people tend to like what they are used to so it is to be expected that new posters will have their own ideas.

What is wrong with a discussion about new ideas - from new or old posters?

I do understand insofar as things like tickers have been asked for over and again by newish posters however there are also some really good ideas that come out of those discussions. If it helps though I have seen old posters defending the lack of tickers who had posted in support of them in their early times!

I see the like/dislike threads - agree it's not a good plan.
I couldn't see a ticker one, maybe for the best as it would make me hoick the judgypants again.

I think making suggestions is fine improving things is not a problem but I do think that being too similar to other sites will take away mn uniquness.
