So far in the last few months there have been a number of requests for changes that would make mn more like other sites and less like mn

This is mn:
No tickers
No signing off
no like/dislike button etc

If you make all the changes that have been suggested then mn wouldnt be mn. it would lose part of the ruggardness about it. it would become threads of like/dislike but no real discussion.

eg AIBU: like 21 dislike 12. less effort needed to post, less likely that people in a hurry would bother to make the effort.

PLease few free to enjoy the site but try no to change the mn esscence. simple to the point no fancy ability to connect with thousands of witty smart women and the brave men folk amongst us. Who are more then capable of making their feelings know without tweeness and all singing dancing buttons.

I've never seen anyone say they want tickers on MN ..and some change is good ..I love the pm feature

DanceInTheDark · 01/11/2010 21:39

I have been here long enough to either ignore or send them packing to Netmums Wink

Mumcentreplus · 01/11/2010 21:42

hehehe..thats exactly how it should be used imo Annie Wink

emptyshell · 01/11/2010 21:48

Please god no tickers. Please.

Some other sites look like a cross between a pop up porn ad and a Christmas tree with the amount of sparkly flashy tickery crap going on on them.

I'll just adblock the fuckers anyway.

LetThereBeRock · 01/11/2010 21:51

People seriously want tickers?

Who really gives a toss about how old Cletus the Fetus is,or how long it's been since Precious's last bowel movement?

GMajor7 · 01/11/2010 22:07

I like it just how it is Smile

AnnieLobeseder · 01/11/2010 22:46

Dammit, I saw all these posts in praise of Annie's idea and though people were agreeing with me. Sad

Wink

Oddly, I think this is the first thread I've ever been on with Annie confusions, and there are enough of us Annies knocking about the place.

I love MN just as it is. I spend a lot of time on FB and wish they had the emoticons and ability to cross words out.....

LittleMissHissingFirecracker · 02/11/2010 00:04

Got to got to bed, one cos it's late and 2 cos that dreadful dizzie rascal is doing my head in... Who gave him a fecking mic?

FGS, no tickers, I went over to the other place ONCE, it cost me a fortune in bleach for my eyeballs.

i admit to hugging, I don't care... I will use the odd Honey, but never EVER hun

OK will go now before I kick telly in...

Ta-ta for now

and no flaming tickers while I'm gone eh?

BaronessBomburst · 02/11/2010 00:19

Nooooooo!!!! No tickers and no like or dislike buttons. I like MN because people are literate, and over 14. And rude.

tallwivglasses · 02/11/2010 00:40

Bloody hell. I've only just got my head around this mumsnet.

Any new features should have a 'Fuck off NOW!' button.

SolidButShamblingUndeadBrass · 02/11/2010 00:49

I've said it before, what's really needed is a button to press whenever someone is being stupid, which causes a big silicon boot to pop out of the poster's laptop and kick them up the twinkle.

DancingIceDragons · 02/11/2010 08:35

rofl. Now that is an idea SGB Grin

TandB · 02/11/2010 08:43

YANBU. Tickers would be the thin end of the wedge. Next thing you know there would be giant animated avatars and pictures of kittens with baby pictures in thought bubbles coming out of their heads. And twee little poems. And then it would be a short step to a blanket ban on saying anything except "You know your baby best. Hugs Hun. No-one has a right to judge." Only in text speak.

Seriously, I only know one parenting forum that has managed to retain its credibility while allowing tickers and signatures.

bonfireblue · 02/11/2010 08:46

to anyone who feels the need for a ticker......can I please point you in this direction?

LittleMissHissingFirecracker · 02/11/2010 09:21

Oh kingfu, what a dismal pic you paint...

tis true, tis true.

ThighsBurntOnABigRocket · 02/11/2010 09:32

I've just vommed on my keyboard from bonfireblues link.

Anniegetyourgun · 02/11/2010 09:33

OMG, it's so mauve

emptyshell · 02/11/2010 09:38

One of the nice things about this place is the fact that, because of the lack of bells and whistles, and annoying flashing things... it loads quickly, meaning it's nice for checking on things like mobile phones and things as well.

ThighsBurntOnABigRocket · 02/11/2010 09:43

And we can write cunt without a whole load of huns coming at us with pitchforks.

LittleMissHissingFirecracker · 02/11/2010 09:44

Thighs, they are not allowed pitchforks, too dangerous, they are only allowed safety scissors

ThighsBurntOnABigRocket · 02/11/2010 09:47

Pink and fluffy fairy wands to magic away that foul mouth.

TandB · 02/11/2010 09:51

LittleMiss - dismal? You mean you don't like pink animated kittens?

But thanks for the royal upgrade to "kingfu". that's the second time that has happened and it is starting to go to one's head.

LittleMissHissingFirecracker · 02/11/2010 09:55

LOL, was probably me the last time, you could turn it into a christmas name, 3kingsfu, nearer the time, of course, you'd be lynched if you did it now...

I hate the hun-ness, I have to say I did rather fall into the wrong page, I followed a link to a Baby Naming thread.
