to be getting fed up with people who want to change MN to be more like other sites?

So far in the last few months there have been a number of requests for changes that would make mn more like other sites and less like mn

This is mn:
No tickers
No signing off
no like/dislike button etc

If you make all the changes that have been suggested then mn wouldnt be mn. it would lose part of the ruggardness about it. it would become threads of like/dislike but no real discussion.

eg AIBU: like 21 dislike 12. less effort needed to post, less likely that people in a hurry would bother to make the effort.

PLease few free to enjoy the site but try no to change the mn esscence. simple to the point no fancy ability to connect with thousands of witty smart women and the brave men folk amongst us. Who are more then capable of making their feelings know without tweeness and all singing dancing buttons.

Oh now baby naming is a whole new world of entertainment. Google "baby's named a bad bad thing" and prepare to lose your entire day in voyeuristic glee.....

WTF are tickers?

I simply cannot deal with tickers. I have slightly sensitive vision and if we get lots of flashy moving things or animated emoticons I will only be able to MN for 3 minutes before getting a migraine. To be honest, those wretched ads at the side of the page are bad enough.

Anyone who needs flashy pink shit rather than actual content should chose another site.

Forums full of these things are really annoying to use and do my head in.

Tickers; a countdown to having a baby/ttc/next trip up the oxo tower etc.

Flashy adverts + Adblock = no more irritation!

I never use any otehr forum because I cannot BEAR it - all the ticker, and other people's posts quoted etc. I find them utterly impossible to read.
