I am quite new and keep seeing references to the mumsnet "heavies" on other threads. Am intrigued. Who are these people please?
"Heavy" because of strong opinions? Especially articulate posters? Nasty?
Or dos it refer to people officially involved with the actual running of musnet?
Please enlighten. I'd love to know who they are and why so called.

"distinct quiche" arf

ShowOfBloodyStumps · 30/10/2010 16:52

What does a distinct quiche look like? Has it a risque image rendered in herbs?

People do discuss MN. On fb, twitter. In rl, down the pub.

AnyFuleKno · 30/10/2010 16:53

The eternal debate rages on...

Who are MN royalty? Some people deny they exist, people are always trying to work out who the most popular posters are (usually a thread a fortnight about 'who's your favourite). MN big names say 'there is no royalty. Some people ask how you get to be royalty, or try and build their notoriety in various ways.

We all know there are a group of, I'd say about 10-15 posters who are extremely notorious, popular, well liked (with some detractors of course). Because people know them, or feel like they do, they are perhaps a bit kinder and a bit more friendly in their replies than they might be to other MNers.

I've been guilty of it too. If I recognise a MNers name on a thread I am more inclined to be friendlier and warmer than if I didn't recognise them.

Sorry for this garbled post but it really winds me up when everyone pretends this doesn't happen.

TheBolter · 30/10/2010 16:56

Show - I have never discussed MN in RL. I don't think I know any other MNers.

PS the distinct quiche revealed itself to be distinctly moldie.

I don't think it's royalty though is it? Just that some MNers have things in common or a shared history for example. Some MNers are friends in rl.

The term 'royalty' is usually rolled out when people are saying that there are MNers who set the rules or bully. I generally see no evidence of this.

I don't think there are certain "heavies" but as soon as one disagrees/takes umbrage with a post, It doesn't even have to be a post they understand, Other people will jump on the band wagon.

piscesmoon · 30/10/2010 17:00

They don't exist-except possibly in their own minds. Everyone is equal.

TrillianSlasher · 30/10/2010 17:00

I was kidding wrt the minions jumping on you - but that's clearly what the OP implies - that there are people with whom one is not permitted to disagree.

FattyArbuckel · 30/10/2010 17:01

I think this is simply about frequency of posting!!!

Obv if you post prolifically you will have a higher than average profile eg Riven et al

I am a name changer, but that was for another thread so not doing this because of that, as it were Smile. What does annoy me a bit, as a fairly regular potser is that if I start a thread asking for support I may get two or three responses whereas someone 'known' will run into the hundreds. I feel that everyone should be treated with respect and helped out if they need it.

As you were.

lollipopshoes · 30/10/2010 17:02

I'm a mumsnet heavy.

But I do need to lose a bit of weight

PirateScaredyCat · 30/10/2010 17:02

I voted for Vinny. And tbh, hers was the best. I shamelessly begged for votes. I've offered to send her half the prize but she's having none of it.

I don't know if it's frequency of posting. It's just human nature. Some people you have more in common with than others. It isn't a bad thing.
