you can't turn around without seeing the blasted woman. I don't buy magazines, I don't have a TV, I don't watch X factor, I don't read sleb blogs yet you just can't get away from the woman. Today I walked into town, she was in shop windows advertising her fake hair, in waterstones advertising her book (probably about how "brave" she has been) I just cannot understand the mania over her. I mean, what exactly has she done that is so chuffing amazing ? Had her husband cheat on her and eventually kicked him to the curb after about the 8th occasion ? It's hardly unusual, is it ? Adn why does everyone keep describing her as "brave" ? Brave is keeping on going after you've had your legs blown off in a roadside bomb in Afghanistan. And don't get me started on the racist attack.
I cannot believe that this woman is generally accepted as a good role model for girls, she appears to me to be the complete epitome of a simpering moron, trussed up like a Christmas turkey. I despair for our daughters

Good, I feel better after letting that out

YANBU. While I think she's beautiful, I do indeed recognise the fact that she is just working class scum from the NE of England. There I said it. She smacked some black girl in the face, is SO tattooed she looks like a sailor, and I don't find fake teeth/hair/eyelashes/tan any more attractive than I do her simpering voice. I'd also like to add that she can't sing, so why she was put to judge those who can is a mystery.

Fibilou · 22/10/2010 21:22

Erm, Marilyn Monroe was a pretty talented actress. She won a golden globe for Some Like it Hot and a BAFTA for The Prince and the Showgirl. She was also nominated for a GG for Busstop.

And who the hell voted her the "nations' sweetheart". I don't remember attending the poll. Then again I don't read FHM.

daftpunk · 22/10/2010 21:24

Ok, maybe it's not jealousy, just not sure what it is then? Has she been in porn films? Is she Katie Price who gets her tits out every 5 minutes?

She's not a bad role model as celebs go.

Prinnie · 22/10/2010 21:24

She was nothing until she went from a size 8-10 to a 4-6. Yeah...great example for young girls!

Georgimama · 22/10/2010 21:25

She punched a lavatory attendant in the face and called her a "black bitch".

Say what you will about Katie Price but she doesn't have a conviction for assault.

InGodWeTrust · 22/10/2010 21:25

And she had malaria (whoop dee doo). Solves the question of "what do you give someone who has everything".

Fibilou · 22/10/2010 21:26

It is a passionate loathing of todays celebrity culture where people rake in millions while having no discernible talent other than self-promotion. EG Kerry Katona.

And have we really got to the stage that because someone doesn't act in porn films or show her body at every possible opportunity she deserves to be feted ?

Don't worry scottish, DP and Nigella can go and cosy up with their copies of Heat magazine and some embroidery while the rest of us despair at the shattered remains of feminism's legacy

I just can't bear the whole ' oh yes I eat loooaaads and hate the gym, and I think I'm a right munter tee fucking hee'
fuck. Off.

fluffybitingguineapigs · 22/10/2010 21:54

I was actually at the trial of Cheryl Cole for the assault. Have to say the assault really was not racially aggravated - I believe there were independent witnesses who were able to verify that CC did not shout out racial abuse and I believe that she was found not guilty of this.

There was definately an assault though, and a middle aged woman earning a pittance as a toilet assistant (works on commission at a posh club - hands you a towel or a mint and you tip) was assaulted by a young, spoilt millionairess who thought it a sport to take some sweeties off her and then become verbally and physically abusive because the woman asked for payment (I believe though could be mistaken as twas a while ago) that one of the conditions of work for the assistant that she paid for the sweets herself out of her own monies.

I met Cheryl in the cafeteria afterwards. We stood next to each other and she recognised me from the gallery. We were similar ages and she smiled at me nervously. I did feel for her, she was very young, her hair scraped back and dressed in a suit- she was feeling unsure and in need of reassurance.

I cut her dead. It was actually quite hard as part of me really felt for her - so naive and strangely vulnerable, but I'm not ashamed I snubbed her - even now that she has become a worldwide celebrity and not a pop starlet.

I think in any decent, civilised society, you are respectful to people who are not in the same privaledged position as you. If you believe that you have a sense of entitlement at the expense of someone more vulnerable, you are a twat. And, how you treat the people that serve you reveals a lot about you as a person.

She seems like she may have grown up now and learned some compassion but who really knows. And if she has, good for her.

Hedgeblunder · 22/10/2010 21:57

Oh bless teeny vulnerable poppet... So vulnerable she can beat seven shades of shit out of a woman twice her size

atah · 22/10/2010 22:01

YANBU
Since when did being pretty make you a national trasure?
Can't stand her and can't understand this country's obsession with her. I was hoping that the Gamu backlash would knock her off her pedestal but no such luck!

1st Ashley, then malaria, then Gamugate - god that woman is indestructible Grin
