you can't turn around without seeing the blasted woman. I don't buy magazines, I don't have a TV, I don't watch X factor, I don't read sleb blogs yet you just can't get away from the woman. Today I walked into town, she was in shop windows advertising her fake hair, in waterstones advertising her book (probably about how "brave" she has been) I just cannot understand the mania over her. I mean, what exactly has she done that is so chuffing amazing ? Had her husband cheat on her and eventually kicked him to the curb after about the 8th occasion ? It's hardly unusual, is it ? Adn why does everyone keep describing her as "brave" ? Brave is keeping on going after you've had your legs blown off in a roadside bomb in Afghanistan. And don't get me started on the racist attack.
I cannot believe that this woman is generally accepted as a good role model for girls, she appears to me to be the complete epitome of a simpering moron, trussed up like a Christmas turkey. I despair for our daughters

Good, I feel better after letting that out

Yep, agree with you WN

Georgimama · 22/10/2010 20:55

I've been sick of her since the first moment I clapped eyes on her.

The backlash against poor wee Cheryl is coming though, they build them up and knock them down.

scottishmummy · 22/10/2010 20:55

she certainly isnt a role model.lets see not much to emulate is it

marry an adulterer- aye good idea

shrink to look like peeled prawn- aye reet man
drag detritus of life around (and get paid for it) - who'd have thunk it

canny lassie?nope
rich yes

but as parents we have influence and scope beyond schleb.just because someone on telly doesnt mean we all slavishly copy

daftpunk · 22/10/2010 20:56

Oh no, that's a bit much

WannabeNigella · 22/10/2010 20:59

ScottishMummy - What?????

I really don't think you can say she's not a good role model cause she married an adulterer!

I think there are plenty of people on here who would agree that that doesn't make them a bad role model?? How the hell was she to know?

WannabeNigella · 22/10/2010 21:00

And I actually think to do what she has done with her career is very "canny".

I feel there is a bit of this Envy in a lot of these posts and it's pretty hideous.

daftpunk · 22/10/2010 21:00

SM, lots of women marry men who cheat on them (unfortunately) it's the their fault is it.

sharbie · 22/10/2010 21:02

i can assure you i am in no way envious of cc

scottishmummy · 22/10/2010 21:03

as part of the overall picture, yes she is like other chaotic feted schlebs.and all indicative of poor judgement and a life lived vicariously

WannabeNigella · 22/10/2010 21:04

But you do think it was Grin she was 24hrs from death Sharbie Hmm

scottishmummy · 22/10/2010 21:07

oh save the ire and indignation for something that matters

Georgimama · 22/10/2010 21:07

There is no way that woman was ever 24 hours from death. More media hype and publicity machine overdrive. I am sure she was actually pretty ill (and probably became more ill than her people realised she would be) but 24 hours from death? What crock. Doctors don't say things like that, except on TV.

daftpunk · 22/10/2010 21:08

Poor judgement? She married a man who went on to cheat on her, how was she supposed to predict that? You sound like you're blaming her. Really confused with you SM

WannabeNigella · 22/10/2010 21:09

Finally, will just add, that I am not a member of the CC fan club despite how this looks Wink

Everyone has differing opinions, it's what makes life interesting, I just find the fact that some of you find it -
A) Amusing that she was 24hrs from death.
or
B) That marrying a cheater makes you a bad role model.
or
C) That because she is making hay whilst the sun shines it is a bad thing.

Confused
sharbie · 22/10/2010 21:11

she was not 24 hours from death OBVIOUSLY

daftpunk · 22/10/2010 21:13

WN; she's good looking, rich, and seems like a really nice person.

I think it's a jealousy thing, has to be.

scottishmummy · 22/10/2010 21:13

thanks for the executive summary and C&P.i find all these things indicative of a schlocky schleb life. she lives in a headline world of my marriage/health/search for a handbag hell

Fibilou · 22/10/2010 21:16

I don't have an issue with Cheryl herself as such, it's the way the media have whipped it up into a frenzy, how she is described as the "nations sweetheart" and for what ? She may have a pleasant voice and manner but so do lots of people.
What I find infinitely annoying is that she is hailed as some sort of wonderful aspirational role model for girls when really she has done nothing of note other than make a career out of be cheated on, be very thin and wear some "interesting" fashion choices. I would far rather that cultural role models had something to say for themselves, a great talent and some wit.
Chezza pretty much sums up all that is bad about the current wave of female celebrities for me, all style over substance. I will never forget being so disappointed at an episode of NMTB when they had a girl from the Saturdays on; she had nothing to say for herself at all, just sat laughing at everything the men said, playing with her hair.

OP posts:
Georgimama · 22/10/2010 21:17

She's not that special looking. She is naturally quite pretty and is wearing a hell of a lot of make up and fake hair most of the time. I see prettier girls every day.

She is rich. That is true. Lots of people are richer though.

She does not seem like a nice person at all.

Fibilou · 22/10/2010 21:18

why does it have to be jealousy daftpunk ? Just because I criticise a famous woman I'm jealous ? That's a very one-dimensional viewpoint you have there, that we women are such simple creatures that the only possible reason we could dislike what another female stands for is jealousy

OP posts:
daftpunk · 22/10/2010 21:19

Oh what did Marilyn Monroe ever do. There's always been women like CC

Georgimama · 22/10/2010 21:19

And also what Fibilou says. Whenever it seems the media is trying to dictate that someone is the big thing, I tend to take against them. I don't like being told who I should look up to.

Fibilou · 22/10/2010 21:19

"WN; she's good looking, rich, and seems like a really nice person"

Yes, she may be. Again, I do not consider this sufficient to be described as a "national treasure"

OP posts:
Georgimama · 22/10/2010 21:20

Marilyn Monroe was a fabulous actress, for a start.

nickytwotimes · 22/10/2010 21:21

not jealous here - i AM good looking, rich and nice.

Fib's post spot on.
