We will be hit very, very hard by these cuts. dh is out of work, and has been for some time. he has finally been offered a p/t job (min 12h contract) at a local shop but there is genuinely nothing else out there for him. we receive full HB and CTB, have one child and I am unable to work due to a severe form of teitzes, I did work for Iceland but even working on the till made my condition worse. I receive IB.

my condition (while I am in constant "humming" pain) is subject to flare ups. and flare ups often occur after something as simple as shopping. there is no cure and I am likely to get worse. I am terrified that the DWP (under new guidelines) will take away our HB and CTB because dh cant get a full time job. I am terrified that I will be pronounced fit to work when (if you look at my records) I am not.

anyone else want to sit with me and quake as the coalition plunge us back into poverty?

We are doooooooooooooooooooooomed Grin

throckenholt · 20/10/2010 10:23

it does look like it is going to be very divisive - and lead to a lot of people making judgements on others without really knowing any facts.

I am very worried too, Dh works part time and now has the worry of his hours being cut even more, i am a carer to dd2 (who has Autism), i will be looking for a job when dd2 is full time at school after x-mas. We have just been housed by the council but we are now worried as there is talk of rent being put up and cuts made in housing. At the moment we are surviving on the dd's DLA which is sad as that money should be to help them and to pay for therapy. If we loose the dd's DLA we will be struggling to make ends meet.

I would love to be able to work full time but finding child care for 2 autistic dd's is near impossible.

I am worried about the future and how it will effect people like us Sad.

YANBU. I am lucky in that my husband and I both can and do work but I hate the fact that the cuts just seem to be being made quickly without giving proper consideration of what impact they will have on individuals' lives. Also a lot of the things which will no longer funded properly are the things that I think are good about Britain like a good welfare system, the armed forces, the BBC. It make me despair...

needafootmassage, thank you. I am only just recovering from a huge flare up that has left my torso bruised and expanded my ribcage by another 1/2 inch. dh starts work next week, thank god.

dinosaur, exactly. many people were happy to ride the economic high, take out huge mortgages etc at the time, now its people who cant afford to who will pay.

so how will people make ends meet?

i can see debt looming....lots of it.....gas/elec meters becoming the norm as people fail to pay bills, repossessions, dodgy cars on the road as people struggle to maintain, more shops going under.....how will we feed ourselves? alot of dc will have to start eating like we did as kids!

already i have reduced kids pocket money

and there is a thread today about the increase in costs of food, car ins etc....its worrying.

lissieloucifer · 20/10/2010 11:03

we can either all sit and moan and worry.....or take on a bit of the old British wartime spirit....

the cuts will affect us all,its a given.

what we do about it is key.

YANBU, I am comfortable, I will be OK. But I don't understand how they can take people's benefits away when there are no jobs at all, what is ACTUALLY going to happen to people if they don't have any money at all Confused

GypsyMoth · 20/10/2010 11:15

just as well health spending is "ring fenced" - because the health implications of large numbers of unemployed is likely to be large.

Especially when an unusually large section of that unemployed body will be educated people who had thought they would be able to provide for themselves. You have to wonder what this will do to mental health.

MouseCostume · 20/10/2010 11:22

It is a big worry for everyone, the vunerable in particular.

My DH and I are both self-employed and (used to) to a lot of public sector trade, we have had to make big changes within the business and just hope they're going to be enough as our private trade will take a big hit now too, and that's before the VAT hike. January is going to be very grim. Though I appreciate that, to an extent, we are in control of our own (and our staff's) destiny.

We have to try and be optimistic, it's a big challenge, but I think things have been worse, and there's certainly a lot of people in the world a lot worse off than us.

We've been spoilt through a government consistantly borrowing and spending waaay beyond thier means, add the banking cock up into that and now the shit has really hit the fan.

The cuts need to be deep and far reaching to be effective, I really don't think they can afford to pussy foot around this, it'll get worse before it gets better. Deep down, I think we all realise this.

I think all 'normal' people will be affected, I'm worried too, but I like a challenge, it's only money. Smile

Sorry, this is a bit of a babble, feel better now!

OP, your condition sounds awful, hope you're feeling better, now, let's quake.....
