We will be hit very, very hard by these cuts. dh is out of work, and has been for some time. he has finally been offered a p/t job (min 12h contract) at a local shop but there is genuinely nothing else out there for him. we receive full HB and CTB, have one child and I am unable to work due to a severe form of teitzes, I did work for Iceland but even working on the till made my condition worse. I receive IB.

my condition (while I am in constant "humming" pain) is subject to flare ups. and flare ups often occur after something as simple as shopping. there is no cure and I am likely to get worse. I am terrified that the DWP (under new guidelines) will take away our HB and CTB because dh cant get a full time job. I am terrified that I will be pronounced fit to work when (if you look at my records) I am not.

anyone else want to sit with me and quake as the coalition plunge us back into poverty?

Lougle that's what I thought too - surely the disability element is tied to child tax credit? Confused

We don't get WTC but get CTC plus disability element - that shouldn't be effected by the 24 hour thing ... I'm close to panic at the thought of losing CTC/disabilty because we would be totally fucked.

ImGideonsMumAndIHateHimToo · 20/10/2010 18:18

mama I honestly don;t think anyone ehre knows my first name Sad- we moved here for study / work 5 yeras ago but I only meet aprents and ds1 hurts their kids so.....

My parents would but are simply too far away and don;t drive.

Lougle- phew thanks about disability credits! WTC still a pin but we've posted in business about whether we can change business to a partnership and me take on teh admin (I woudl too, I am so bored).

Lots of thinsg today I don;t have an issue with- i'll be honest I expected worse- nbut it woudl seem to me that carers and disabled should be exempt (or rather credited) for teh WTC rate, as in effect in work terms it's close to single parenthood and more simply we save the country a bloody fortune!

If we'd responded to the hurdles- dh's illness years ago that lost us our home, the SN- by giving up and going into state housing we'd be a lot more secure than we seem today. Am not sure how that fits a tory ideology.

mamatomany · 20/10/2010 18:19

Could your parents not get the train or a coach, I mean really if you are going to be as screwed as you are suggesting you need a solution to this.

ImGideonsMumAndIHateHimToo · 20/10/2010 18:20

(mama when we had ds4 (yes we were working etc etc MN stylee) we ahd to hire a doula as there was nobodyy then either, and we had to have aHB JIC dh didn;t get home in time)

ImGideonsMumAndIHateHimToo · 20/10/2010 18:21

Mama they ahve three other kids to care fot hat day, my nephews. Sister 1 would simply say no about taking day off, sister two has as bad luck as us- her dh just recovered from potentially terminal illness, still to weak to care for kids alone but being amde redundant)

It's just bad luck and proabbly my shite social skills

PhlebasIsShrieking · 20/10/2010 18:25

ITA anyone getting CA should be regarded as working full time as far as WTC goes.

uyter · 20/10/2010 18:26

Surely only people in employment should be regarded as working?

ImGideonsMumAndIHateHimToo · 20/10/2010 18:29

Dh is in employment, always has been, since he was 12.

The issue is that I cannot contribute as a parent who has not been given a carer role could and should. I have been remov ed from the labour force but circs quite beyond my control.

So why shouldn't the single aprent level apply to dh as he is the only aprent who can work?

Technically he could give up his course but the business would ultiamtely fail as the year by year growth required licences and training he is acquiring

Don't be silly Riv I wouldn;t ask it!

It's mainly bad luck that A) dh has an exam; B0 it's half term; C) the half term club ds1 likes isn;t running (uni it is based at ski[pping reading week as they started later due to golf tournament)

It wasn't meant to be it seems.

stressedmum2 · 20/10/2010 18:32

Whole thing makes me laugh with shame at this country making us all skint and jobless but then spending extra 11.5 billion on overseas aid.

uyter · 20/10/2010 18:34

Overseas aid is being given to people who survive on $1 a day its hardly comparable

ImGideonsMumAndIHateHimToo · 20/10/2010 18:35

It's the continuance of fuel and bus passes for well off pensioners that gets to me.

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 20/10/2010 18:35

Could you hire a nanny for the day, for the interview?

ImGideonsMumAndIHateHimToo · 20/10/2010 18:36

Old Lady thanks, generally a good idea but ASD + Nanny would only work with a very slow introduction; ds1 has a tendency to lash out otherwise.

Were it just ds3 would work a treat.

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 20/10/2010 18:37

Is Osbourne Thatchers secret love child....

Vev · 20/10/2010 18:38

I grew up whilst Margaret Thatcher ruled and it was grim. There were no state handouts like there are today, no WTC or CTC and no free childcare. And she took the free milk away from schools. I can see times becoming very grim again. Sad

PhlebasIsShrieking · 20/10/2010 18:38

Carers work. Really fucking hard.

Do we need to dump our disabled children and elderly/sick grandparents on the doorstep of social services to prove that point?

The state would be on its knees without us. That should be recognised.

National carers strike? Obviously, it won't happen because we are far too diligent.

Yes, I would herbie; I said disabled below as well.

It should be about promotinmg independence from the state in those who can be, not promoting dependence (increased risk of needing satte housing etc) in thsoe who have no choice.

and carer's allowance is a taxable - as far as I'm concerned I'm employed by the state to do a incredibly difficult, highly skilled job at the fabulous rate of £1.50 an hour (that's a 35 hour week which does even begin to cover the workload).

Even the unqualified/inexperienced carers employed by the LA here earn £9+/hour.

KarmaDevil · 20/10/2010 18:53

I am actually shitting myself now. DH works in the public sector, no idea if his job will go. He's on MW so we rely on tax credits to survive. Now they're going. I would happily work full time if necessary but after being a SAHM for 10 years it's highly unlikely I'm going to be able to get a job, when there aren't any and millions of other qualified people are unemployed. We also live in a HA house so likely the rent will rise there too.

So what bastard twat Call Me Dave has done is take all the jobs away, and make thousands of people unemployed. Then cut unemployment benefits for those people he's making unemployed. Then put up the rents on their houses and cut their HB so they can't pay their rent.

Anyone going to join me in the Workhouse in a year's time? Angry

ImGideonsMumAndIHateHimToo · 20/10/2010 18:54

Ah Phlebas go on teh otehr cuts thread- we are nto saving satte anything aparenlty.

herbie, in 2 eyars I have a aplce to study for a career that will pay mor than enough to finance the Nanny we need; unless of course I am working for dh for a pittance in which case I can;t go. That's the opposite of tory ideology surely? It is imo gross incompetence.

Casserole · 20/10/2010 19:00

Can't your DH ask if he can defer the exam?
