We will be hit very, very hard by these cuts. dh is out of work, and has been for some time. he has finally been offered a p/t job (min 12h contract) at a local shop but there is genuinely nothing else out there for him. we receive full HB and CTB, have one child and I am unable to work due to a severe form of teitzes, I did work for Iceland but even working on the till made my condition worse. I receive IB.

my condition (while I am in constant "humming" pain) is subject to flare ups. and flare ups often occur after something as simple as shopping. there is no cure and I am likely to get worse. I am terrified that the DWP (under new guidelines) will take away our HB and CTB because dh cant get a full time job. I am terrified that I will be pronounced fit to work when (if you look at my records) I am not.

anyone else want to sit with me and quake as the coalition plunge us back into poverty?

has anyone actually said they are loving it? what has been said is that it is in line with traditional tory policy. i feel that they have used the deficit as an excuse to enforce their basic ideals.

i dont think they are actually "loving it" but i think they feel that what they have done is right and moral.

I'm really annoyed that it is going to affect the working families.

My partner works and I am a sahm I have recently been looking for a pt job to help knowing that cuts are coming but there actually isnt anything what are people supposed to do???

And I really dont see how they are encouraging the jobless to work by saying they'll be better off working they have done NOTHING to improve the income of those working on the mininum wage its ridiculous. Angry

Maybe they are not loving this Hmm (perhaps mainly because of head-lines etc etc..because it may cost them votes not because they have any feelings about how this will impact the average person - speaks for itself doesn't it?)..

but I have a distinct feeling they don't give a shit..the people they are affecting mean nothing and are nothing to them..

they believe they have no social responsibility for what will happen to these people...because ultimately they are the poor, the voice-less and help-less...and that to me speaks volumes...if you had a debt...not matter how big would you take from your childrens mouth to pay it?...

Mumcentreplus · 20/10/2010 20:41

I completely agree about the war herbie...but none of the Cons stood up and apposed it did they?...so that would have happened regardless

lissieloucifer · 20/10/2010 20:41

you have no argument from me there, and that is one of the reasons that i dindt vote labour in the last election. if EdM had been in charge then, i certainly would have. but that was not an intrensic part of labour policies. it was a decision made at that time. the conservatives have always been opposed to a welfare state. remember thatcher's "no such thing as society" speech?

bettiboo · 20/10/2010 20:57

Can I just tell you all that supermarkets no longer prosecute people who steal goods under the £20 - Tesco's here we come! (clearly I'm joking and do not condone breaking the law under any circumstances.....)

Mumcentreplus · 20/10/2010 20:59

betti..does that include stuff on special offer? Grin

bettiboo · 20/10/2010 21:03

Mums... that's hilarious You could go on 'a job' for the family a couple of times a day..

ImGideonsMumAndIHateHimToo · 20/10/2010 21:07

Lissie

I think we will lose our home too. It stinks. I wish I never had kids becuase it hurts to do this to them.

lissieloucifer · 20/10/2010 21:24

gideonsmum, its horrendous. I grew up in a non-working family under thatcher and will never forget having bricks thrown at me because we were scroungers and taking my shoes off for PE, some b*tch (you know who you are catharine james) throwing them around the roombecause i had cardboard insoles to cover the holes.

i will starve myself before i let that happen to ds.

"We think we have a solution, but its just wrong."

ImGideonsMumAndIHateHimToo - its that your partnership idea?

Why is it wrong?

duckyfuzz · 20/10/2010 21:59

The cuts won't affect us particularly (we will lose CB, pay is frozen and we will have increased pension contributions as public sector workers, but its nothing in relation to some) for which I am both relieved and ashamed. I would happily pay higher taxes to avoid some of the draconian measures against the poor that have been taken today.

baildonwen · 20/10/2010 22:17

The cuts were unavoidable as the public sector had become bloated with too many people doing non-jobs.

bettiboo · 20/10/2010 22:19

I partly agree duckyfuzz. I'm not sure we're entirely aware of how we'll be affected in the public sector just yet. Perhaps you have a partner who will support you in managing your pay freeze (maybe not). For me, not only do I have one salary (which I'm very grateful for) I also have a range of other financial restrictions, which when all added up, equal a deficit of around £250 a month - for me, as a single parent, is relatively substantial. I still feel lucky, but it's all relative. I'm raging that people who are already deprived will suffer at the expense of those bringing home vast benefits. The welfare state is a tiny dent in the deficit. I laughed today when 'posts' on the BBC news website had raging conversations about the benefits of those who work for the public sector. I work in the public sector. What bloody benefits. Oh, and one post that resented paying for me from their tax... hello, I'm not sitting watching Jeremy Kyle ... I'm putting my own being to ensuring that the people I manage don't kill people, don't kill themselves, don't increase public spending in the criminal/health system. At least once a week (minimum) I'm abused by a patient or family member, I manage a team of health care professionals who are dedicated to ensuring that not only are their patients safe but also their children and families. We are not paid vast sums of money, we don't get paid overtime (and regularly work over our substantive hours), are often abused, and all the while are thinking about the impact on society. I'm not saying I don't value my position, I feel lucky, but I also dedicate myself to public service and those less privileged in many ways in society. Sorry, rant over.

Mumcentreplus · 20/10/2010 22:26

betti I work for the public sector too..I feel your pain..I hate that the public sector has become the whipping boy..I'm front-line I work hard for what I earn and I was proud...

arses · 20/10/2010 22:28

I am guessing that my fixed-term public sector job is unlikely to be renewed next August. Goodbye, job...

Mumcentreplus · 20/10/2010 22:31

arses I think it depends where you work and your grade...

bettiboo · 20/10/2010 22:32

Mumcentreplus: you should be proud, you are do an amazing job. I think most people appreciate the work we do in the public sector, maybe not for those who pay for private healthccare, private detectives??? private fire fighters when their beautiful belongings are burning down???? Public sector workers generally work for everyone and are dedicated to being a servant to all people. I love working for the benefit of all society and hope the conservatives don't get rid of the public sector entirely - folks, it won't be good!

Mumcentreplus · 20/10/2010 22:32

some of the higher grades are in trouble..and the band bs too..I think band c's are the safest place..for now

arses · 20/10/2010 22:35

I should have been ok, mumcentreplus.. I am Band 7 (NHS) but on a council secondment.
D'oh.

Might mean I can be redeployed, though? Might be at a lower band, but that's better than the dole queue, surely!

((hopeful emoticon))

Mumcentreplus · 20/10/2010 22:35

I know betti its just sad that sometimes people cannot appreciate what we do..and how hard we work...reading rhetoric from from newspapers...
