Ok, I admit it, it's not really an AIBU because I won't stop liking them if when you all come on and say YABU.

But the snobbery thread got me thinking. What exactly is it about tattoos in general that people don't like?

I don't like all tattoos and I think they can look very "chavesque", but some of them I think can look good.

I was looking for an example, but I could only find this

Grin Obviously not a Mumsnetter

Nope, like whatever you like.

NerdyFace · 18/10/2010 15:52

I absolutely love em! :D

I have my entire right arm covered from wrist to shoulder and my left arm well on it's way to being covered!

No tribal or anything like that, even have the inside of my bottom lip done!

BloodyMissIzzy · 18/10/2010 15:53

YANBU. I like them too (which is lucky, as I have two myself). Some people don't like them, which is fair enough, but it irks me when people make sweeping statements about tattoos/people with tattoos being "common" or "chavvy" or whatever.

cupcakesandbunting · 18/10/2010 15:58

I have tattoos but can accept that they look a bit rampy.

Mine, of course, are beautiful :) I like to think of myself on the Angelina Jolie side of inked rather than the Mutya Buena side.

ManiDeadi · 18/10/2010 16:01

Trinity that sounds really lovely Smile. These are the types of tattoos that I love.

Riven, just out of curiosity, what would happen if you did have a tattoo - would it just turn into a big bump?

YANBU
I love my tattoos. I spend a fortune going to a good artist because I believe that done well, they are art.

Some can look trashy but you can say that about almost anything.

NurseSunshine · 18/10/2010 16:06

YANBU! I have 7 so far and am planning more. Obviously I'm extremely discerning about what I have permanently inked onto my body so I only have lovely, pretty ones :) They're all hideable too because of my work which is a bit :( as I would love a half sleeve.

jumpingbeans · 18/10/2010 16:10

Nerdyface, I have my dh name inside my bottom lip, he's got mine on his, we had them done about 35 years ago, I have not told many people, so mums the word :o

AnakisT · 18/10/2010 16:12

I love tattoos. I have some and am planning the next.

2shoeprintsintheblood · 18/10/2010 16:15

yanbu
I love mind, ds has a beautiful one, but I hate those tribal ones and tramp stamps

LotteryWinnersOnAcid · 18/10/2010 16:15

YANBU, I have several and I genuinely feel that they add to my attractiveness rather than detract from it, but each to their own, it's never going to be everyone's cup of tea.

cupcakes - I like the way you put that; "I like to think of myself on the Angelina Jolie side of inked rather than the Mutya Buena side."

My tattoo style is similar to Margaux Lonnberg's.

ManiDeadi · 18/10/2010 16:27

I like the feather one on Margaux's ribs.

YANBU. I have 5 at the moment and just deciding on the location for my 6th. They all have a great meaning to me but look random to everyone else bar my most recent that is what people will think it is. Its an in memory one for my db/ I don't care what anyone says i love them all and dont regret any of them.

Timbachick · 18/10/2010 16:32

Personally, I love tattoos. Of course there are ones that are just pain awful but many are lovely.

Btw - I am planning my first Grin

greaseistheword · 18/10/2010 16:36

i love tattoos and would love to have one but am too scared of the pain.i have had many piercings but they are done quickly not like a tatoo that you have to sit there for a while.

TryLikingClarity · 18/10/2010 16:41

YANBU.

If I could think of a drawing or words I liked enough I would get a tattoo.

Need inspiration!

LadyLucifer · 18/10/2010 16:46

I have three tats and going for another when I have he baby. I adore body art / modification

IvantaOuiOui · 18/10/2010 17:13

I love 'em, if done well. My most recent one was a bunch of cherries on my ankle, and the tattooist got the colours spot on.

Yes Bunny that's true, it's surprising she's got the space for all those tattoos frankly!

ShrineOf both feet? That's strange. Surely once is enough, the other foot could be used for another design/name. Perhaps her DPs? Should we venture into whether it is "chav" to have the name of one's DP tattooed? Wink
