talking to a beautiful Somali lady today(they all have hollywood smiles don't they, bloody genetic miracles!!) and she confirmed that whilst her 5 & 7 year old dds don't cover their heads she gets harassed and pressured by men at the mosque that her dds should cover. She said that whilst she doesn't because she loves her dds hair, other women do cover their very young dds. She said the men also say that unless they do it from very young they will not do it when they are the right age!

So it's not only about copying Mummy, just like the rise of the burka it's a renewed stick to beat women with.

spikey have you been reading my posts or making them up in your own head?

spikeycow · 18/10/2010 18:42

Yes, only English Muslims are English. Still nothing wrong with the original sentence.
Do English Muslim girls wear those trousers? No.

booooooooooyhoo · 18/10/2010 18:43

ok to clarify.

i think english muslims are english.
i think turkish muslims are turkish
i think pakistani muslims are pakistani.
i did not say all muslims are english.

spikeycow · 18/10/2010 18:45

My only point now is that you can't say Muslims are from this country unless they are. It demeans their culture, their identity. Come to the London Borough where I live and tell them they are from England. My ex was born here and considers himself a Turk.

booooooooooyhoo · 18/10/2010 18:47

spikey, i didn't say muslims are from this country.

spikeycow · 18/10/2010 18:48

You said I can't use "from this country" when I explained I use "from this country" to mean English, because personally, I do not consider myself English, nor my children english, because we have no English blood. So you don't use it in the same way, but I tried to explain and here we still are 10000000000 hours later.

As Mike Reid would say, Turn it in.

yes but you used 'from thsi country' in comparison to muslims. and what i amtrying to say is taht tehre are muslims from this country regardless of what you consider yourself to be.

spikeycow · 18/10/2010 18:53

The rest of you, who want to debate real issues, rather than picking up things that aren't there, can debate around us.

booooooooooyhoo · 18/10/2010 18:57

apologies for thread hijack. i give up now.

spikeycow · 18/10/2010 18:58

Obviously I know some Muslims are English, English blood. But people aren't going to complicate their post with every type of Muslim going are they. In my area the majority of Muslims are not from this country, nor would they want to be. Even though everyone mixes, we can do so while sticking to our own culture and tradition. So no bigotry from me

PosieComeHereMyPreciousParker · 18/10/2010 19:03

LMAO that Somali women having hollywood smiles gets some little goats chomping, ffs. The Somali women I have met and talked to, say fifteen or so, all have amazing teeth.

Is it fair to say anything about any race/people or group without twatty people getting their knickers in a twist? We all make broad generalisations all of the time and nobody expects everyone to fit the fucking mould.

My point about little girls wearing hijabs is as relevant as non muslim girls dressing like little hookers, fishnets or knee high boots at three,. I guess the difference is that the parents of the overly sexualised girl isn't doing so under the guise of religion.

tsc...why should any child dress modestly, in the religious sense? modestly is not reserved for Muslims you know, I dress 'modestly'..no low cut tops, no mini skirts etc.

Britain is not a Muslim country and therefore muslims should assist their children being part of Britain not only part of a subsection.

Actually, just to throw oil on the fire, caucasian is a race, British is a nationality.

booooooooooyhoo · 18/10/2010 19:26

posie are you saying that wearing the hijab prevents children being part of britain?

colditz · 18/10/2010 19:27

English is not a 'race' don't be absurd. To be English means merely that you were given birth to on English soil.

DillyDaydreaming · 18/10/2010 19:27

Why is every thread started by Posie about the burka? Confused

spikeycow · 18/10/2010 19:32

No Britain is not a Muslim country, but I think Muslims should wear what they want. It doesn't mean they don't respect Britain or whatever.

FlyingInTheCLouds · 18/10/2010 19:39

I think:

England is a nation
Britain is a state
Caucasian is a race

RunawayPumpkin · 18/10/2010 19:43

Lets all walk about naked as Adam and Eve, no more separation through dress, and as global warming is picking up we wont be cold.
